AIM Bot and Proxy Servers
« on: June 06, 2007, 12:22:59 pm »
Hello:

I have a quick question about the AIM Bot in UltraHal Assistant.  The place where I work requires us to pass through an internal proxy server for Web access.  Most IM programs allow you to put in the proxy server and port number to use the program.  For example:
Proxy = webproxy.net Port = 8000

I've done so with AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger, and Pidgin.  However, AIM Bot has no setup for inputting proxy server info.  Is there a work around available so I can use my AIM Bot at work?

BTW, the GAIM project was sued by America Online over its name.  They settled and changed the programs name to Pidgin.  It might be a good idea to do the same with AIM Bot.  Just to be on the safe side.  Maybe call it HalIM. [:D]

Unfortuntely, the current AIM Bot does not support proxies. But I remember using a program called SocksCap many years ago to force programs to work through a socks proxy even if they weren't designed for it. I haven't tried it with the AIM Bot, but it may be worth looking into http://www.softlookup.com/display.asp?id=25686

Thanks for the info about GAIM, I'll keep that in mind for future versions.
