Ultra Hal 7.0 / Script that records Users real name (sample)
« on: September 07, 2003, 09:25:41 pm »
This is just a guess, but when you write to the file, you are appending to "NAMES.brn" and when you read, you are reading from "Names.brn". This might cause a problem, but I'm not positive (I know it would on a UNIX system, but on a Windows system, I'm not sure).

Also, if you append to the file, how does it know which name to use? Wouldn't you keep adding names to that file? You could probably use some VBS command to erase that file before you append to it, if that turns out to be the problem.

Mind you, I haven't tried to run the code yet, but those two things were the only ones that jumped right out at me....

The message "Any suggestions for Ultra Hal Assistant 5.0?" has a list from Mr. Medeksza regarding what will be included in the new version 5.0, and region-wide date recognition is on the list. Hope this helps.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / UltraHAL Yahoo Group (cross-post)
« on: August 27, 2003, 10:30:05 pm »
Since several of the .brn stroage requests came from this forum, I thought I'd go ahead and cross-post this message from the Programmer's forum. I apologize for any redundancy.

Good evening. I've been poking around here for several months now, and I must say that I am truly impressed with the amount of external developing going on at this site. I have tried my hand at some brain editing, but some of the ideas that have come from here, I must say, are quite advanced, and I'm appreciative of the work that so many have put into this program (most notably the Zabaware developers).

That having been said, some people have been asking for ways to post different brains and brain editing resources, and I think I may have found a way. A few minutes ago, I wandered over to Yahoo, and started an unofficial UltraHAL YahooGroup. For any that aren't familiar with the concept, a YahooGroup is part message board, part home page, and part file storage area (20 Megs Worth!). The "UltraHAL Brain Developers Group" can be found at "http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ultrahalbraindev" (no quotes). The membership is currently open to anyone, and I highly encourage anyone who really wants to get into brain developing to come on over.

Thanks again for all your work, and I hope to see you there.
