Title: New Zabaware Promo Video
Post by: Medeksza on April 09, 2011, 07:40:29 pm
I finished working on a new promo video for Zabaware. It is a video that attempts to introduce Hal and his features in 2 minutes. This video will be featured on the Zabaware homepage in a month or so when the Zabaware site design gets an overhaul:

Or the HD version:

Let me know your thoughts.

I'm still trying to processes the video. It was so cool.

It was very well done, although the squeaky voice seemed like it didn't belong there.

It certainly says allot about UltraHal future.

I'm glad you guys liked it :)

The squeeky voice at the end was the "Audrey" AT&T voice played at 50% faster. I had to speed it up to get the response to fit in the 2-second window the template allowed for. I thought maybe it would kind of fit the cute Coco Bear character, but maybe I can try lowering the pitch on it a bit.

ROBERT I AM STILL WATCHING IT , and it looks good so far but have seen a mistake in it where the blond female face was talking and the last word was either cut off or partially cut off (didn't know if you realized this.) it's at the (0:23 mark of the video) now that i have seen the rest i like it all , i like the flat pannel monitors in the distance and all the rest of the lay out . very nice work on the promo .   :)

Robert loved the Promo especially the fact that you get straight to different characters and voices which I hope most people understand the message.

One thing and I'm not trying to be controversial about it but I truly feel at this time the Zabaware brand needs a different identity for newer generations and the future of the product. Another words without hurting too many feelings the Ultra Hal TV and Frog characters should retire.

Time for a face lift without losing your identity as something else but an evolving product. There are much older products om the shelf that this rule would probably hurt but Ultra Hal is not a product on the shelf and does evolve as does technology.

Just a suggestion but maybe a better logo or image to represent Ultra Hal Assistant or both to include Zabaware as well during newer releases and advertise the fact of evolving.

With best intentions,

raybe

i also agree with raybe ( and as he said am not trying to hurt any feelings ) i don't know what if any significence their is about having a frog in hal but the frog expecially seems out of place for hals image .

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. The CRT-monitor Hal character will be retired soon for a more modern Hal character, possibly based on a flat screen, mobile phone, or tablet. I'm still working with artists with that character.

The Zabaware logo will be changed to a much more simple silhouette of a frog rather than the complex frog that is there now. The slogan will also be simplified from "Giving your computer the power of thought" to just "Intelligent Machines".  This is because Zabaware will be focusing on more than just computers and will have things for mobile devices and web servers.

I'm bilingual and speak Polish and English fluently. When coming up for the name for Zabaware back in 1997 I reached into my Polish vocabulary. "Zabawa" is the Polish word for "fun" or "party" and "Zaba" is the word for Frog. So Zabaware means fun or frog depending on how you look at it. That's where the frog character and logo came from.

I think that when people talk with a frog character they are more forgiving of bad responses. When people see a human character they expect human level intelligence but tend to not except as much from a talking frog. I think it helps in the perception of Hal's intelligence a little bit. So I'm probably going to keep the frog character but give it an update.

It's far from finished, but the new design for Zabaware we are working on is at http://iis.ultrahal.com  You can see the new logo and slogan and a new Zaba frog character. Please let me know your thoughts on this design so far. I promise my feelings won't be hurt if you have anything critical to say.

Even though it looks simple, there is a lot of complex javascript, AJAX, CSS, HTML 5, server side scripts running on that page. I know the products page is not formatted correctly, but does everything else look ok? Does the video play? Do the video controls show up? Are you able to switch between full screen video and normal video? If not let me know what browser you are using and whats wrong.

"there is a lot of complex javascript, AJAX, CSS, HTML 5, server side scripts running on that page"

Sure is, the webpage doesn't work on IE6 on Windows XP, which is what I have where I work.
Only the headings of the menus show up.

I probably will need to go home and use Firefox on Windows 7 before I can view it.

Hi from Will,
i feel strongly without dowbt,,doght, dought, with out hesitation i say
The vid makes my hair stand up, freeky, slightly terifiying...
Oh i was saying without hesitation keep the frog and tv charactor!
The vid shows them off well, i when shoping give them the Mr Burns finger of next "as trap door opens in floor and homer simpson falls away",, and your vid quickly moves through frog and tv to those human looking charactors very quickly and makes you realise there can be any kind of charactor, nice cartoon type frogs and human types.
Don't remove when more can be just added as options.
The music in vid is freeky too,,,zizz
very captervaiting, wowish, freek you out.
The new frog is ok, eh he's growing on me.
I like the frog as logo,,its not hard to show a range,, a picture writes a thousand Hals.
an icon holds, name builds,,,
oh i've got to go,,,
bye for now and be well  :)  :]

No offense everyone and I also congradulate 'Will' but I think we should get back on track for Robert's post.

Totally understand Robert about the link between product name and logo. Also understand the concept of what you believe people expect. But as frogs evolve from toads I also think that Ultra Hal has evolved enough to hold its own in the AI dept.

There will all be the people that will want Ultra Hal that much better in the subject matters they feel are more important. It happens with long time users of Ultra Hal as people look to develope better characters, none characters, GUI interfaces, home automation, auto and so on. Not to mention the plugins that were all deveolped. People have the great choice of using or not.

I believe that also contributes to people wanting newer versions or updates for Ultra Hal.

It's about evolving technology and having to be part of something that truly becomes uniquely yours or more than you expect.

Thanks,
raybe

Very nice video, Great job there.
the new frog logo is decent, it's simple yet quaint. ( I do like the original one better, i would not totally scrap it).
SORRY ROBERT, BUT THE NEW WEBSITE, NEEDS SOME WORK  :(
IT CAN BE FIXED TO LOOK GREAT  ;) BY:

1). keeping the menu in the same spot on all the the pages (on product page it is at the bottom  ???).
2). better background or make it tile better (clearly seen on product page, half way down the page you see a separation where the background tiles and causes a line though the page).
SIDE NOTE: it would be nice if the forum and new website matched in menu wise, color, and design.

Obviously a quality production video advertisement.

Only two negatives: If possible, I'd get rid of a second when character Sandy ends a sentence with a "ch" sound.
Also, UTube frequent refresh rots - not the video (data download can't keep up).
A better link is:
http://iis.ultrahal.com

Then wait about ten seconds (for download to get ahead of play) before clicking the Play graphic button.

Um, maybe just add four seconds of User asking Hal to "Define...", then getting the response.

Very good video!
