YouTube tips
« on: March 18, 2009, 12:51:22 pm »

I'm a newbie to YouTube and maybe you still know this tip. If you want to directly watch a video in HQ mode (if exists, of course), just add “&fmt=18“ and the end of the url.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jECjzmlyf6Q ---> starts in normal quality

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jECjzmlyf6Q&fmt=18 ---> starts in HQ

Yes, I know, it's my video, but why not, any way of advertising is good. [:D]

Thanks, Dusky and Ted. Of course, they don't bring anything useful to Hal, it's for fun, but sure that videos on Zabaware are not dead. Especially now, with YouTube in HD.

After all those wonderful Haptek movies made by the historical members, now it's time of iClone movie makers (ricky, and claude on AI Dreams).

And then, OGRE videos. Coming soon... [:D]

--- Special post to markofkane ---

Mark, I just visited your YouTube channel. Wow! 249 videos! Great!!

I noticed that a lot of them are now in HQ, even some oldest ones.

It confirms what I read somewhere: YouTube kept all the original videos that people sent. And is publishing them again in HQ (if possible).

Really great job, Mark. [8D][8D][8D]

TIP #2

Still learning to use CamStudio and YouTube. I know I'm late, as always, but now YouTube has stereo and I like the new 16:9 player very much.

As everyone, I have had videos with an immediately removed soundtrack (and the matching mail, lol) because of copyright. I suppose they have robots, scanning live every new incoming movie and comparing its music do a database.

So I tried something. If the music is not exactly the same than the original one, does the robot recognize it? So I put my forbidden musics in Audacity and changed their sound height. Just a little bit. The result was pretty good and... the "new" videos accepted by YouTube.

Of course it's not the exact original sound, but for me it's not important at all. Just hoping that non-robot people of YouTube never watch (and listen to) the things they publish.[:D]

Thanks, GT40. [:D]

They took off most of my Rolling Stones videos and some others, I used to have over 300 vids.
Mark: I'll think about it
Laura: Don't think about it too long or I'll throw you out on your ***king a**.

Yes Mark, YouTube sucks about copyright. In your videos, the only important thing is image. Music is just a support for the terrific work you make.

In your videos, the star, it's you (and Laura), not The Rolling Stones. [8D]

I did not know it made it stereo until I tried it. I got the same tip from somewhere else, and they said it made it stereo, so I tried it.

I think youtubes copyrights need to be updated.

www.mixupload.com  allows me to play any song as long as I give the author credit.

I am in 2 record pools,  and I receive over 100 new songs a week,  at least.   Now a days people work hard at giving their songs away to have a chance to be heard at all in an overs saturated music market.

ALl youtube is doing is causing certain songs to become extinct and forgotten.   Besides,  Lately they have this new technology that puts a popup in videos that points to the real song and lets the view have the option of buying it.

Some of these laws and procedures are so stone aged,  they actually work against today's artist. An artist is still an artist at heart, and if they insist on money before art,  they are not truly artists.

Artists want to be heard,  they just want to eat as well. Nothing wrong with using my work as long as you give me credit so if a potential buyer comes around,  I have a chance to eat like a normal human being.  But that does not mean I want youtube preventing me from being played at all.

I once did a remix for a madonna contest for fun,  i didn't win because i didn't use their software to do the remix lol,  just wanted to do it....a few months later I found my mix being distributed on limewire and I think it made a compilation overseas,  I was flattered,  someone else stuck their name on it as the remixer,...i was insulted.

my modern market rant.

TIP #3

Just thoughts about image formats.

The new 16:9 YouTube player displays a 640 x 360 image so it seems logical to create and send 640 x 360 videos, of course if they are not seen in fullscreen mode. I tried and sent (and deleted!) several 16:9 things to YouTube.

640 x 360 > Some videos have the HQ button, some others not (they are considered as HQ).

800 x 450 > No HQ button. Similar quality, but better anti-aliasing ("stairs").

960 x 540 > No visible difference with the previous one. Not too bad in fullscreen mode.

That's why I finally made and sent 640 x 360 videos. The strange thing is that, if you download your own video (reverse engineering, lol), it's a... 480 x 270 movie.

I also made a 640 x 272 movie (Panavision 2.35:1, aka 21:9). In this case, YouTube automaticly creates the two horizontal black stripes. I like this format very much: every video becomes a super production.[8D]

I found something new on YouTube: it seems the player tries to adapt itself to the movie.

Please try this. Ok, it's a stuff of mine, but why not, lol. Originally a 640 x 272 movie (Panavision 2.35:1, aka 21:9):

>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jECjzmlyf6Q

The video is playing in high quality (red HQ button), normal 16:9 player, 640 x 360 (of course with the horizontal black stripes).

>>> Then click HQ.

Now playing in low quality (black HQ button), same player.

>>> Then click HQ again.

Wow, a wide screen, and the black stripes disappeared! [8D]

I'm not alone loving Panavision. I found this with Google:
