talking to itself
« on: January 30, 2004, 12:00:22 am »
A friend of mine and I both installed Ultra Hal and set up AIMbots - both copies exchanged quite a bit of pseudo-conversation. Several times it degenerated into both sopies parroting each other in an *almost* endless loop. Eventually the connection was lost because the Hals were exceeding the server speed limit.

Does anyone know what effect that the Aimbot has on Hal's brain?  Can two copies of Hal use AIM to "learn" from each other?

I asked Hal about the other bot (used it's screenname) and it does not seem to know what I am talking about.

Is there any other info on this out there somewhere so that I can look into this more?

Thanks

- for the parroting. I have found no solution. The auto-generating brain helps a lot but it just lower the risk of parroting.
- When Hal is speaking to an user (bot or not) a big part of the learnings are stored in the [userid]*.brn files. So, Hal can not respond to you about the other user, but it remembers while speaking to the user.
- Bots are learning from each others, but their knowledges must be different. Otherwise, it will be pointless.

Thanks Morlhach,  that helps me understand a little better. So it seems that what's happening is a trade of basic information between the two bots. As for the parroting, I suppose that it would make logical sense that both bots would want to remain on topic, and with limited brn files they would get stuck in the loop.  Both versions were running the basic brain at the default settings and they were both only a few hours old.

Are you from Belgium by any chance?

I'm hping that it will start using those topics instead of asking people to bend over and saying a person "is an idiot :=0" ....

i still havn't rooted that from its memory.

YeTr2 - Thanks, I just purchased Hal 5 , I'm now using a slightly modified version of Don Ferguson's auto topic brain.  I want to spend a few days training Hal a bit, but I appreciate the offer - I'd like to try to get my bot to talk to yours sometime next week.

I hope it works out better with the auto topic brain.

Morlhach - :) of course it was chance! - You didn't get to choose did you? I was never given given a choice...  The reason I ask is because your nym is similar to 'Morlock' which I thought might be a H.G. Wells reference. Upon doing a quick search, I found several web pages and due to the unusual spelling of your handle, I thought the pages might be yours. If that's the case, then you have some really nice imagery there. I like the contrast between the warm tones and the shadows. It looks like you used Bryce for a few of them.

I'm sorry if I'm rambling a bit - I know this isn't the proper forum for all of the above but I'm a graphic artist so I tend to be more interested in those things than some others...

Thanks everyone.
