Anton,

I sent Robert Medeksza a message in your behalf. Hopefully, he will respond in a reasonably short time.

Hey Tarzan!

Let Jane help with your injuries as you heal.

You'll live to fight those denizens of the deep another day!

I believe one other concern that a few of us had was the inability of the PyGodel model to allow Hal to use any existing Plugins. Some of them were precisely tuned to enhance Hal's interaction and functionality.

Would they all be rendered inoperable and useless? How well could the Godel model handle similar issues found in various plugins?

There will be a tradeoff, but if there were a way to minimize it, that would be a bonus for us.

The member's name was Snowman and he was/is a good friend of mine.
He abandoned his Athena program in favor of another, more featured program.

Rather strangely, he got married, and haven't heard from him nor am I able to contact him since!! Hmm...

You could always try passwords like, snowman, snowy, aaron, athena, zabaware, etc... Those would be the obvious attempts.

There is an answer to your question but I shall defer to Spitfire2600 to provide any clarification if he is still around.

IF you have a decent computer upon which to run it.

IF you are not going to have an issue over it taking a couple of seconds longer than a human to respond.

I found his PyGodel adaptation to be very nicely done adding a noticeable measure of ability to Hal.
My main issue was not the fault of Spitfire2600 nor his mod. My issue is that there was no provision within Hal or otherwise for it to use my existing Hal's brain and no ability to know or remember who I am or anything about me or itself. This is due to the fact that the tables weren't created or written to. SO I basically had a wonderfully knowledgeable and quite articulate chatbot.

That's fine except that I already have a Google Home device.

Good luck!

Correct because Bard even that it is just a conversational model. It is neither friend nor foe. It is not one for developing relationships as does Ultra Hal. Bard is an informational engine and it is not able to learn new things like Hal does nor does Bard have a memory like Hal.

While Bard is conversationally way more powerful, it is based on billions of interactions that have been compiled and it is running on 9700 cyber ghost servers, which kind of makes our single home computer seem pale, weak, and puny.

Bard might be super intelligent in conversing but Hal is no one-trick pony...it can do a multitude of things (at this moment in time).

Party on Hal!! ;)

Wow! That is quite an accurate appraisal, especially coming from another A.I. (one that's hundreds of times more powerful that Ultra Hal)!

Ultra Hal has weathered the storms and stood the test of time extremely well!!

Nice bit of research Lightspeed!!
(then again, most of us knew that all along!)  ;D

It's actually a SERIAL adapter to connect to a COM port, not an RGB which would be for video.

This cable would enable HAL to be able to communicate to a COM port-enabled device like many of the X-10 items that are readily available for a very low cost!

eBay has LOTS of listings of folks selling all kinds of X-10 items! Some are even being sold by the pound, but be careful of what you're buying.

Older desktop units and tower systems had COM ports but the transition to Laptops had the manufacturers omit them...plus the advent of the USB connections.

You might want to remain locked in the past but other things in this ever-changing universe will continue moving forward, changing & improving. Ultra Hal is one of them.

Hal has evolved over the years in many ways and has really tried to offer something for everyone.

One Does Not have to rely on the Cloud for their Ultra Hal to be operational or they can if they choose to do so.

Life is all about choices. Choice of characters, TTS voices, GUI skins, Backgrounds, Brains, Plugins, etc.

One can get a great deal from many of the user-contributed Plugins over the years to enhance Hal's ability.

Some have even created Plugins to allow Hal to collect data when Hal is not being used by the user in a chat situation. Hal will continue collecting info for use in later chats, as needed.

There is a downloaded Local Wikipedia that is full of useful data and Wordnet is extremely useful and neither of these requires Ultra Hal to be connected to the Internet or to some Cloud.

Hal is as "smart" as it has been trained to be. Garbage in...Garbage out as the old saying goes.

For Desktop use, typing to Hal usually provides better results as opposed to speaking due to a variety of possible issues. Choose wisely and teach your Hal as if it were a 5-year-old child, then after a while, it will surprise you with what it knows.

Good luck!

A good and helpful find Knight2000...nice work!!

OF course one can take advantage of Windows 10's Split Screen to easily perform this task.

« on: June 02, 2023, 07:51:55 am »
Nice idea but Hal can barely determine who is who if one's webcam is running. Hand signs are way different than just speaking. I'm afraid Hal and its camera would have too much of a delay to determine all the different words, numbers, and phrases contained in the ASL. I'm sure there are probably some systems that can do what you're suggesting, but at the moment, Hal isn't one of them.

I kept hearing my mom's voice reminding me, "If you keep doing that with your eyes they're going to get stuck that way!!"  Haha...some memories stick with us...

Very nice experiment BTW.

Think back to the movie, Ai. Near the beginning, it showed lots of robots being gathered and held in captivity. Some of them had smooth heads with an internal projector that projected the facial characteristics of the robot.

There's no one best method...it's whatever works or whatever is needed.

Sorry to say but this seems to be a Microsoft issue and not an Ultrq Hal - based concern.

Apparently, you are not alone in your frustration over some of these voices but I did track down a possible lead for you.

Good luck in resolving this.
