Chatbots

Just an FYI.

In this years Loebner Chatterbot Competition
there are a lot of previous entrants and...
32 New ChatBot entries! This should prove to
be quite interesting.
Check them out or read all about it at:

http://web.infoave.net/~kbcowart/

Let's hope at least some are able to learn
instead of just being a cute prescripted bot
trying to fool the judges.

In the world of AI it's the thought that counts!

The Chatterbot Challenge is not affiliated with the Loebner Prize Contest. The Chatterbot Challenge is currently promoted by Wendell Cowart, creator of TalkBot (Zabaware was the 2003 sponsor). The Loebner Prize Contest is administered by Hugh Loebner. The Loebner Prize Contest is an enactment of the Turing Imitation Game, where a panel of judges attempt to identify participants as either robots or humans. The Chatterbot Challenge is a competition among chatbot programs, based on several criteria, such as the competitors' answers to an identical set of 15 questions asked of them by the judges, votes cast by the public, etc. While the Loebner Prize awards only first, second, and third prize for the "most human" computer in the contest, the Chatterbot Challenge awards prizes in various categories such as most knowledgeable, best learner, best interface, most capable, most comical, etc. Dr. Richard Wallace's ALICE program is both the current Loebner Prize Contest winner and Chatterbot Challenge Champion. Hal took the Gold Medals for Most Capable and Best Interface in last year's Chatterbot Challenge, and has placed 7th overall for the past two years.
BTW, the Chatterbot Challenge is currently accepting applications to be a judge in this year's contest, which will begin March 1. IMHO, the one to watch in this year's contest is Mathetes. Some of the other "new" entries like Barry DeFacto are well-known performers, but Mathetes is a new AI program with its own unique algorithm, and may be a surprisingly strong competitor.

Hah! I knew that posting would surely draw you out into the open!!

Thanks for the corrections...I stand corrected.

I still think it's great to see 32 new competitors this year. The future for chatbots (and hopefully AI) seems to be on the rise.

All the best!
