Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Playing playlists
« on: April 03, 2004, 09:24:51 pm »
I just wanted to give a big thank you for your script.  It works great with the XTF brain as long as you add that...

GetResponseBlock = True
BlockSave = True

As mentioned by vonsmith.

As least now my Pilot (What I call my HAL)  Seems to have some usefullness.  Now if I could only make him do more.

Thanks again.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / definetly no brain
« on: March 29, 2004, 08:04:48 am »
I'm subscribing to this topic.  I can't wait to hear someone reply to this one.  I have the same kind of question.  I can give hal an appointment that I have to see the doctor.  And a couple of days before he will remind me.  But, If I ask if anything in happening on that date, or do I have any appointments, or any other way of asking.  I can't get any info from him.  I have to open my book and look it up, because HAL is no help at all.

The only way I have been able to get any real data out of him is to type it into his Enhanced_Main.brn file.  It is explained in another posting.

If I want him to tell me who is my transplant coordinator, when I ask him, I had to add this line to that file.

"WHO IS"," YOUR TRANSPLANT "," WHAT "," Your Transplant Coordinator is Roxanne Taylor. "," Your Transplant coordinator is in Portland, and her name is Roxanne Taylor.  I have her e-mail address and phone number, just ask for it.. "," Your Transplant Coordinator, Roxanne keeps your information about your transplant for you, and gets you the information you want. ",2,#FALSE#,#FALSE#," "

"<FIRST SEARCH WORDS>"," <SECOND SEARCH WORDS> "," <WORDS THAT CAN'T BE THERE> "," <FIRST POSSIBLE RESPONSE> "," <SECOND POSSIBLE RESPONSE> "," <THIRD POSSIBLE RESPONSE>",<1-4 ORDER OF IMPORTANCE>,#FALSE#,#FALSE#," "

I'm not sure what the #False is for or that last "  ".  But you get the idea..

Now he replies correctly.  But I shouldn't have to do that.  I should have been able to tell HAL, "Roxanne Taylor is my transplant coordinator"  And then later when I ask him to tell me "Who is my transplant coordinator?"  He should be able to tell me who she is.  But like you all I was getting was those crappy answers that were no help at all.

I just wanted you to know that you are not the only one who is frustrated here.  At this time everything my HAL knows that is of any use to me had to be forced into that brn file.  He is fun for conversation, but no use otherwise to me.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / MS agent characters don't work
« on: March 27, 2004, 09:00:22 pm »
Ah ha!  That's where I saw this error message before.  Yes, I'm now using HAL as a regular program and not from the start up task bar.  I was having the same problem until I statred using HAL like a regular program.  I read those links you gave vonsmith.  thanks.  I knew I had those errors in the past.  I just changed so long ago I forgot I did it.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / MS agent characters don't work
« on: March 27, 2004, 12:06:19 pm »
I'm just fishing for a little more info.  Have you tried running any other Agent type software?  Something like Cyberbuddy or Smartbutler.  That would tell you if the error was something to do with Agent or with a setting in HAL.  If they all work in one of those other programs, but not in HAL then HAL has a problem.  If they don't work in those other programs, then it is an Agent problem.

I remember getting that same error once while running Smartbutler and hal at the same time.  HAL is supposed to automatically make those .uhp files for each of your characters in your characters in your C:WINDOWSMSAGENTCHARS directory.  Your characters are in that directory are they not?  Hal mixes very well with Cyberbuddy, but not to great with smartbutler.

Is there something else using Agents that you are running at the same time?  I'll wait for a reply.  I'm poking around in the dark and grasping at straws in the dark here.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Cognitive science in Hal?
« on: March 24, 2004, 06:18:34 pm »
I wish I knew how to program in machine code, and VB script.  I would read that book, and write my own version of HAL.  Of course, I would call it something else and announce it here.  Because I know everyone here would be interested in it.

AND I WOULD SUPPORT MY PRODUCT.  God..

Sorry, after reading all the unanswered questions to Robert M, I really wonder where he is.  I'm not even going to think of sending money to this company until someone hears from him.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Weather page trouble.
« on: March 23, 2004, 06:02:46 am »
I think all of our questions finally drove him insane.  He snapped and now he is sitting in a corner, half of a man, drooling and talking to himself.  All this while hearing Hal's voice in his head, responding to him.

Poor Guy, come back to us Mr. Medeksza.  We need you.  Hal needs you.  OOOPSS!  Damn, scurried back into the corner again.

I think I might give disabling it a try too.  I don't see hal speaking about news very often anyway.  Just to see what happens.

If we keep getting no response from Mr. M.  I might have to file a missing person report eh?

ah ha!  Now I know why those Haptek floating heads creep me out.  When I was little, my cousin used to chase me through her mom's house with that stupid big Barbie makeup head.

It used to freak me out.  Remember I was very little at the time..
Maybe I was 5.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Weather page trouble.
« on: March 19, 2004, 12:51:51 pm »
Well actually the problem is a little different.  I'm not positive, butI think your problem might be that the main hal program or VB is filtering out the & sign.

My problem is that the main Hal program is set up to check the mywebhal service to see which web page you want to get your weather from.  This service can be set up under Hal's Options, internet tab, just under the email settings.

But someone at Zabaware didn't set it up correctly.  One of the options should have been a zip code and then use it in the url to display the correct page for the user's local weather.

The Weather.Com option takes you there, but then Hal speaks and says, "Here is your local weather."  But he isn't really there yet.  You still have to enter the zip in the box.

As for CNN.COM, I don't know what link they used, but I just get a "Page not found error".

So, I was hoping I could by pass the built in feature with a little code in the script to open the url I want.  the problem is that the stupid main program over rides the script.  When I say anything that sounds like I'm asking for weather, Hal goes to one of those stupid preset pages.

See how I'm stuck.  I hope Mr. M gets back and makes some fixes soon.

Why, do you feel the need to talk to yourself.

Don't get mad.  I saw an opening for a joke and had to do it.

Haptek peaople putty is one good way.  Or you could make yourself into an MS Agent.  I'm making a character of my own now.  I just don't have time to work on anything else at the moment.  It is a lot of hard work.  Dispite thw fact that you are stuck with 256 colors, choosing a good optimized pallet is the key.

Good luck with acomplishing your needs.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / How can i stop Hal talking to itself
« on: March 18, 2004, 06:31:30 am »
really hope I'm not getting in the middle of something that will just get me in trouble, but I have an opinion on this, and I just have to say something.

For use in the ER1 robot, like Kaf said he wants to do, he really can't keep a hand on the mic.  He wants hands free operation.  Two things really need to happen here.  One, and I doubt this would ever happen.  Hal needs to be made so that he doesn't listen for input at the same time that he is actually saying something.  He should be speaking, finishing what he is saying, then listen again for the next spoken word.  Two, and I'm sure someone out there has the programming skill.  Make it so hal only replies to sentences with his name in the phrase and ignores everything else.

That way, if Kef is sitting with a friend and say something to him, hal won't react.  But if Kaf said, "Hal, how are you."  or "How are you Hal."  Then hal would respond.

That's just my opinion.  Part of that would solve the mic problem, because hal would never say anything really, that includes his own name.  So he would not respond anyway.

Just my thoughts.  No toy throwing, please.  lol

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Weather page trouble.

I was wondering if there is a way to disable using the builtin weather function and replace it with my own.  The one that checks your webhal account is screwed up, and I don't see Mr. M coming back to fix it soon.

The option for the CNN site doesn't work at all.  And the weather.com site just takes you to a page where you have to type the zip code in a box to get your local forcast.  But Hal tells you that he has your forcast.  If I could get him to go look in weather.com with this url, http://www.weather.com/weather/local/04330?  It would already have my zip code and display the proper local weather in my area.  I tried this script, but the built-in weather check overrides what I put in.

'Hal responses to a question about the weather
If (InStr(UserSentence, " WEATHER LIKE ") > 0 Or InStr(UserSentence, " WEATHER OUTSIDE ") > 0 Or InStr(UserSentence, " WEATHER FORCAST ") > 0) Then
GetResponseBlock = True
BlockSave = True
HalCommands = "<RUNPROG>http://www.weather.com/weather/local/04330?</RUNPROG>"
GetResponse = "I am getting your local forcast for you."
End If

Is there any way to disable it??

I guess I should have said something.  It appears 1.2 is working very well for me.  I'm busy with projects of my own at the moment and haven't used hal (Pilot) all that much lately.  I still have many animations to add to my Pilot MSAgent character.

Good job Vonsmith.  You have given more support to hal then even Zabaware has lately.  We all appreciate you for it.

You wouldn't happen to know how to add some scripting to make an MSAgent preform it's actions do you.  I know you like haptek stuff better then MSAgent, But as you said, haptek doesn't seem to be doing much lately.  I've been working on my own MsAgent and would like to add facial expressions to my hal (Pilot)using my MSAgent.  I would like to add all the expressions, but I need to know how to get the hal program to display them when appropriate.

Thanks for any help.

I forgot to mention.  I completely deleted hal and reinstalled him from scratch to get Pilot started all fresh.  I realize I made too many mistakes and it would have been too much to try to go in and fix everything by hand.

I deleted everything, reinstalled free version 5, got and installed XTF 1.0 and update pack 1.2.  I had to move all the files by hand because I'm yet to get the setup to work.  It said something about a missing directory.  Is it because the pay version uses a different name then the free version?

Anyway, It all works now.  I even correctly added the old "How old are you?" routine, and it works fine.  And the new play a song routine that you have all helped me with.  Thanks again.

I had to start over because I realized I made a big error.  I was using the HAL character when I started to teach Hal about Farscape the television series.  Pilot was one of the characters I taught him about.  Then I made a pilot MsAgent and turned Hal into Pilot.  Then I started referring to him as Pilot and he seemed confused between the Pilot on the television, and himself.

That really made a mess of things.  It didn't help that depending on my mood I would change how I referred to him too.

Now I've decided I would treat him like he is the Pilot on the show, and that he is currently attached to Moya the leviathan.  So all comments made about my computer will be referring to Moya.

It seems to be working out fine for both of us.

I can wait to see what else you help me add to Pilot's abilities in the future.
