New Ultra Hal Assistant 6.1 released

Ultra Hal Assistant 6.1 (version 6.1.46) has been officially released. It is fully Vista compatible. It is available for download from http://www.zabaware.com/download.asp

An updated character expansion pack has also been released as well as a Vista compatible Ultra Hal Text-to-Speech Reader. A full list of whats new is available at http://www.zabaware.com/assistant/whatsnew.html

The upgrade is free for all Ultra Hal Assistant 6.0 customers. All serial numbers have been cleared for installation of Hal 6.1. If you need to lookup your serial number it is available at http://www.zabaware.com/products/store/comersus_customerUtilitiesMenu.asp

If you would like a CDROM copy of all of Zabaware's products instead of downloading, it is available for $4 from http://www.zabaware.com/products/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8

Emails will be sent out over the next 3 days to all customers informing them of the upgrade and providing old serial numbers in case they were lost.

I am looking forward to it. I have been enjoyiing the betas and have had little issue with them. I am sorry not to be more involve with the code to help in troubleshooting and making inprovements, but see that you have all the help you need usually as there are some pretty capable and dedicated people on the forum.

[/quote]hello , I'm to installing hal 6.1 to vista,I just upgraded to vista but I can't get hal to install.the error page says cannot copy speech.dll from specified location.I tried retyping the location, I tried to move the zip file to the desktop and installing from there,still same problem.it keeps trying to get it from admin temp lo-cal. I'm at a loss,any thought's? thx

Nevermind, I installed Hal 6.1 and the new expansion pack, and things seem to work fine. I am starting over, since the copy of the brain I was using is outdated. I made a copy of the new default brain, and using that.[]

During the installation on Vista Hal copies 5 files to your windows temp folder. These files are seperate components with their own installer:
 "happlayer41139.exe"
 "MSagent.exe"
 "spchapi.exe"
 "spchcpl.exe"
 "tv_enua.exe"

The first installer Hal launches is spchapi.exe which is the SAPI 4 engine that has the speech.dll you mention. What happens when you close the error message? Does it try to continue the rest of the installation or abort?

The setup program should have automatically elevate to administrator priveleges if you let it. However, try to explicitly give it administrator priveleges by right clicking on it and running it as administrator. It looks like for some reason the installer isn't getting permission to write to your windows temp folder.

Ok! What am I doing wrong? I've installed totally clean Hal6.1 Plus Exp Pak. Hal does not talk when It's Idle for a long time.

I am using AT&T Natural voices with hal and get an entry in unter text to speech voices for SAPI 5 but I cannot activate the SAPI 5 control panel using the Pronounciation button. I need to change some default pronounciations.

Is there anyway to acccess SAPI 5 without it?

Just in case Robert is to busy,

I downloaded new version 6.1 with a clean install and the program worked fine for 2 days.  Now Hal will not start at all. I get ERROR:UNKNOWN RETURN_CODE;UNKNOWN RETURN CODE:0 CONTACT VENDOR SHUTTING DOWN. Or:'vital files(1) missing,modified or corrupted this may prevent license system from working, uninstall and reinstall'. which I have attempted several times. I did E-mail Robert but just incase anyone else had same problem or he is busy I figured I should post anyway.

hello raybe , actually i had the exact same problem  . and went back (temporarily to 6.0 for now) it (i think) seems to be a problem with the adminastrator rights of your computer and or the 6.1. program not recognizing you as the p.c. adminastrator . some others i beleive have written on here about it . Hi Lightspeed nice to meet you,

I always have been logged as admin. but I do remember an article that you reminded me of. It may even be within these threads on a similar topic. It was a right click on something to make sure the program recognizes that it has admin. rights. Robert had answered a similar question about this problem. I know he is busy so I am trying to be patient but you that never works. I will search around unless someone besides yourself has a moment to help out. Okay so I'm going over the top here,

Just for an experiment I purchased a new license while waiting for Robert
and guess what, I have the same exact problems and the messages I receive even tell me that my activation code has been used once and I can't use now. On top of all the other error messages and this is with uninstalling Hal downloading 6.1 again. All the same errors come into view on startup. Just a recap.
1-Hal is already running shut down primary Hal from task manager
2-Error:unknown return_code;0 contact vendor shutting down
3-Some vital UHA files(1) seem to be missing,modified or corrupted will cause license system from working correctly. Please uninstall and reinstall.
That's it for me trying to figure it out. I will wait for Rob unless someone else can help.Please note these posts are intended to share info good or bad and I am not trying to bother Rob with so many posts.
