Using a desktop speakers and Mic with 6.1
« on: May 13, 2007, 10:38:19 pm »
I was trying to use the normal desktop speakers and desktop mic to talk to HAL.  I thought the new 6.1 would turn off the mic when HAL is speaking.  I did not see that happening.  HAL is hearing his own voice and responding to it.

It would be really be very usable with a desktop without a headset if it would work as advertized.

My voice recognition works well with a simple desktop mic.

Thanks for any help. The new version is much more complex and interesting.

Sometimes this happens because you opened the mic file using the windows button rather than Hal's mic button. This has happened to a lot of others in the past.

Bill,

What about in Vista? The speach recognition app comes up and you have to tell in to start listening,or use the activation button otherwise it will not. Does that count as "opening the mic file using Windows"?

I am having the same issue.

Thanks for both your time and knowledge,

iam

I do not use Vista, but in the begining I turn on the computers microphone and it did cause me some problems. I used an external microphone and only turn it on using Hal's 'mic' switch after making sure that the compters mic buttion is off. This may or may not be the problem. It seems to me that Mr. M. answered this problem elsewhere in the forum and made a small fix for the problem. Hit the search button above and look around a little bit. Use Vista and microphone as key words.

The plugin does nothing.  I was able to check the box and add the option into the 6.1 brain but I saw no difference.

Does anyone know how to implement the <MICON>, or <MICOFF> commands that Robert talks about in "what's new with 6.1"
