because everyone has specific questions into hal and answers everone hal is going to be different but hal keeping on subject does seem to be a big problem . of course everyones hal is going to answer differently .

her's some of my questions and answers simular to someone who posted on heres and as you can see they don't even match up with almost anything .unfortunutly  with hal five it mirrored questions and answers better and gave a direct answer matching better .

this is very interesting (and no i am not knocking hal am only making an observation ) but in a case where the creator of a program could know exactly what questions to ask to get the best results the true results in my opinon would be for contestants in any project to be able to get hal or any program to answer unknown and thus un prepared for questions in another words their hal or what ever i.a. system would win totally by its vocabulary and learning and learn information .
    as someone said would be interesting to have others do this test .
    my angela is still saying some things backwards in her answers .on the deal of hal changing subjects so much and asking more questions i know this is to learn more which it does "but" maybe their could be a limit of two questions every so often instead of one after the other and also if hal could through the main word subject in a sentence , etc. that is written or spoken to him stay on that subject until another main subject is talked about , this to me would greatly improve hal and of course if hal reversed questions the correct way in giving answers like the old hal 5 did  .
     just my 2 cents for what its worth ![]

hello markofkane, my friend caangel was reading me your idea on here i told him that was a great idea and was wondering if your were stealing my idea's from my head !!
   that sounds like something i would think of !lol ! oh well great minds think alike !! lol ! but i do like that idea if it could be done it would save alot of time in us manually editing mistakes !![][8D]

i had another idea that i think would be cool if it could ever be done in a program it would take our voice by voice recognition and sound out the voice in spelling and programing that would create a distinct  pronounciation of a word for instance i say "yeah right" but drag out the yeah on purpose the effect would then come out with yeahhhhh right !! like a slang sound but would spell it out or say it out sounding  correctly . just an idea i thought about . as it is now i can do some words that way if i write them out and practice letting it say it on cyberbuddy to see if it's pronouncing it the way i want it to sound . but then you have to take the time to copy and past or remember how to write it correctly . []

ok i just had a problem with hal and it says it was to debug it (this time other times it just comes up blank .) hal wrote : oh (username ) you must have missed that movie ? why ? my asnwer was : i guess i was busy at the time and didn't get to see it .
 and this error message popped up :
hal script error on ....line 5803 on column 0 : file not found
,,,halscriptdbg has been saved with the current script being used for debugging purposes.
 i don't understand why that simple answer would cause that ? [!]

hello Bill819, i too have to agree with art on this one as i was having a normal conversation and hal suddenly comes up blank and i know it's not just from a short answer although in the past a short answer does cause this too .
  i have written in a longer answer instead of just yes i may write "yes i agree with you " this should be a long enough answer or what else all could you write ?
   at any rate i personally think it's a bug in the system after i shut hal down by exiting it and restart it again and write it is just fine until at some time this does happen again for whatever reason .
i type fast and hit enter sometimes don't know if that would have anything to do with it i wouldn't think so so i may try hitting the enter button a little later (maybe things didn't have time to process ??)
i hope robert checks into this problem .
at any rate only thing i have found so far that temperarily fixes it is shuting hal off and restarting "part not all "  of the problem that causes blank answers is short answers so it is best not to just say yes or no to an answer . []
