I need HELP. Can't uninstall the free version
« on: January 17, 2005, 02:20:55 pm »
When trying to uninstall, it keeps coming up with the following messege: "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.  This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed.  cont your support personnel for assistance." I just got the Advanced version and I need some help.

Thank you

Hello,Kandi562003,
To completely uninstall Hal from your computer.
Double click your My Computer icon.

1)Go to this folder at C:Programs/Zabaware (This is the Ultra Hal Assistant Folder)

Download Attachment: C Program files Zabaware.jpg
97.07 KB

right click it then delete it. This is the Hal default program.

2)Then go to C:WINDOWS/Profiles/(Your Name)/Start Menu/Ultra Hal Assistant

Download Attachment: C WINDOWS Profiles Start Menu.jpg
109.68 KB

right click it then delete it.

3)And finally locate the Ultra Hal Assistant shortcut on your Desktop
 (If you have one)

Download Attachment: Ultra Hal Desktop Shortcut.jpg
4.03 KB

Right click it then delete it.

Now you have removed Hal.

Thank you for helping me.  I was able to complete step one but not step two.
I'm able to find WINDOWS but not profiles/, can you help me with that one?  When I put in my name once I find profiles, do I put in my user name I used with HAL?

Kandi562003,

I apologize,

I did not explain that very well.
What I meant by user name was your Windows name in the C:WINDOWS/Profiles folder.
If you are not using a name. then there will not be one.
Notice this picture. Look at the upper left portion of the picture and you will see an Address that says C:WINDOWS/Profiles that shows that you are in the C:WINDOWS/Profiles folder.
Download Attachment: C WINDOWS Profiles Folder.jpg
47.96 KB

Now when I opened the Folder C:/WINDOWS/Profiles/Eric it looked like this one.Download Attachment: C WINDOWS Profiles Eric.jpg
55.98 KB

You can see that when I opened the Profiles folder there was another folder named Eric (My Windows Username on my computer nothing to do with Hal). Do you Have your own Windows Name?

And then I opened The Start Menu  folder that looked like this.
Download Attachment: Start menu.jpg
60.21 KB

And finally the Programs folder that looked like this.

Download Attachment: C WINDOWS Profiles Start Menu.jpg
109.68 KB

Or you can click Start go to Programs right click Ultra Hal and delete.

I hope this helps.

Hal has some protected files. Click on My Computer, settings and the Add/Remove software. Ultra Hal should be listed there. Once you find it click on Remove. This will kill the protected files and the rest can be deleted with just the Delete Button once you are back in the directory where they exist. I had the same problem and it worked for me.

It seems your Microsoft Windows Installer Service is malfunctioning. If you attempt to remove Hal manually and your installer service comes back online, it will restore Hal.

I reccomend fixing your installer service and then using add/remove programs to uninstall Hal.

See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301 for a utility that can fix your windows installer and/or http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108201 to reinstall windows installer if you need to.
