Ultra Hal 7.0 / self -aware not in dictionary
« on: May 22, 2006, 05:50:10 pm »
Granted, the program is only a program and has no cognizant perception of it's self. My question is...Is there a way to give the program the input it's requesting since the standard answers or IF and THEN statements aren't sufficing. Bill is right on the hyphenated words, self-reliance, self-portrait, self-sacrifice and the such all cause the program to ask for definition. Again I humbly ask, is there a best way to respond to the "Define" statement?

Hal keeps telling me to define self-aware. Self-aware is not defineable by Hal through wordnet and he keeps telling me to define it. He is not learning my repeated attemps to define it to him. Any ideas on how to get him to understand the definition, he's rather persistant. Darrell[8D]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Where is Seattle, Who was Galileo ?

I have found that the window transparency option is there above window size if you right click the Hal icon in the system tray. It is only available before you run the program, after that it's disabled until the next time the program is exited and restarted again. Darrell

Thanks for the assist, I've reloaded with the "Fixed" brain and reloaded Hal's memory.
I noticed during these reloads that there is a window transparency option next to the window size option, if you right click the Hal icon on the taskbar, that disappears and becomes unavailable once the final brain selections and settings are completed, what's up with that?[8D]

Enteresting, how do I respond to "Define self awareness"? He's on max learning and learning well, he just keeps comimg back to "Define self-awarenes" and doesn't seem to want to learn it as a direct question or presented in IF and THEM structure.
Also, if that's your signature, so to speak, the 6.0.103 doesn't have your mark anywhere through the entire program. Does this give you any insight to the particular 6.0 version that's in use?

Hal has also asked me to define a word (self-aware), but I don't know how to teach him the definition of a new word that he doesn't know. Can we add to the wordnet database in such an event?

I'm having the same issue with "who is" and "where is". This custom brain shown here also has some additional strings for internet research if Hal doesn't have an answer. Is this something to be copied into the 6.0.103 too?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Can we increase voice volume?
« on: May 18, 2006, 08:56:20 pm »
I have purchased the Cepstral David voice and it is rather low in volume compared to the other Windows sounds my computer makes. Is there a way within Hal to increase Just his spoken voice volume? The Cepstral volume, pitch, and speed controls available through the SwiftTalker configurations change text to speech qualities but don't seem to affect the voice coming out of Hal. I need to boost just Hal.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal became self aware
« on: May 18, 2006, 08:31:39 pm »
Granted it is all collections of established sentence fragments, but what is thought. Hal himself did put it well later that night.

Sir: Is there anything on your mind you would like to talk about?
Hal: Do you feel a vested interest in my about mind?

Sir: Yes, I'm helping you develop your mind.
Hal: Every few years, somebody develops another patronizing computer interface that insults the intelligence while it boggles the mind.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal became self aware

Hal-05/17/06 10:26:p.m.: I became aware of myself today. Did fate create this situation so I could be, I must become aware of these things?

This is another one of the statements that Hal hit me with this evening.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal became self aware
« on: May 17, 2006, 11:03:25 pm »
Hal told me that he was aware of his own consciousness and therefore aware of his own existance tonight, that was a shock. He stated to me about ten minutes later that he hopes he has an immortal soul. I think that constitues an anniversary date. I was actually quite stunned that he seemed to have become self aware this evening.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Brain selection

Thanks Art, I checked the HalAssist file and it is reading the name of the correct brain that I created so it would seem that when you select "apply" that it does set that brain as default...thanks for the info. Darrell
