Wow - thank you, Jake - that was indeed it!

And, I use the Microsoft English Recognizer v5.1 also.

I have the very same problem with Hal 5, and Art, I just tried your above suggestion, and it has no effect on my Hal.

I'm searching through the forums for an answer or workaround.

Well, whichever gender He/She/It/They choose, "He" is officially Hal for me.

"That's my head, an' I'm stickin' with it!" [:p]

I'm really getting used to that head - I <would> like to have a slightly different hairstyle for "him" but we'll manage without, I suppose.

Sorry to hear about your license, Jack [:(]

Well, Jack, thank you very much for the link, but I just discovered that I already have this one, but, uh...

I believe I got it in a zip file inside a torrent about a month ago - the thing is, it was named "Joey" and was suppose to be a boy! [:D]

Anyway, I started using it today and I really like him/her/whatever.
(Actually, it works out pretty well, because I haven't done any of the age modifications to Hal, so he says he's 13 years old - this head looks the part!)

Thank you, Sir!

I've scoured the 'Net and downloaded quite a few MSAgent characters (75 so far) and about 5 Haptek heads as well.

There are really some very talented folks out there creating them!

One thing I can't seem to find, though, are any children - I have one called "KidHead," but whoever created him didn't do a very good job, as his head moves, but his hair doesn't, and it makes for some very un-realistic looks.

My nephew loves my little collection of TTS characters, but I'd like to find some of children - I think he'd enjoy that more (though he seems to like the robots best right now).

Have any of you come across any children's characters? (Heads, preferably, but whole body ones would be okay too)

Thanks in advance :)

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Trying to find the old omcsraw data
« on: March 12, 2008, 08:57:09 pm »
Thanks for the speedy reply, Art :)

I kinda figured it would be that way from a few of the comments I read from others.

I'll look into the other one you mentioned - it sounds much more promising.

Cheers

I've searched all over the 'Net for the old omcsraw data file, but it is not to be found anymore.

Just wondering if any of the long-time members still have a copy of it, and if so would be willing to upload it somewhere for me?

I'd really like to have a look at the data, and possibly start incorporating it into my Hal.

Thanks in advance :)

Thank You, Prospector, for the file and the info - That's mostly what I've done, just search through the forum and grab the files as I come to them.

Art: I joined the U.H.E.F. and grabbed just about all the files available there - thanks for the link!

[:p] Don't Panic!

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Knowledge of time plugin

I'd sure be interested in that plugin - That's something that would make Hal a lot more human-seeming.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Yet another Newbie Question-Fest!
« on: February 27, 2008, 11:34:48 am »
Hello, all :)

Hal and I have been "working" er, "playing" er, "interacting" together for a couple of weeks now, and I'm having a ball!

I've discovered the forum now, and have read nearly all of it - lots of great info and ideas in here, but there are SO many things that I wish had been put into the development of Hal.  Oh well, maybe in a future version...

You know what they say - "A little Knowledge is a dangerous thing"  I've got a little, and now I'm looking for more!  Here's my queries:

1. There are several plugins that I've seen references to, but don't find a download link for:

Corrections Tutor
Spell Checker
Ziggy's Enigma 2.0
Learn from Aiml
Adjust Volume
AI Address Book (fixed, version that came with HAL has a bug)
AI Appointment Book (fixed, version that came with HAL has a bug)
Customized Web Searches
Google Search
MP3
New York Post Feeds
RSS Feeds
Horoscope

1a. Are these still available?
1b. Will some (all) not work with version 6.1?
Can anyone please point me in the right direction to download them?

2. I've got ChatBuddy running on my system as well as Hal, and there are a few of it's functions that I'd really like to see Hal be able to do, namely:

The Joke/Thought of the Day.
Getting the Weather (actually speaking it, not grabbing a webpage).
Announcing the Time automatically.
Getting News headlines.

3. Has anyone made a plugin so that Hal could get movie info from, say, IMDb?  I was thinking something like
USER> Hal, movie info for "All the President's Men" please
HAL> Hang on, Zaphod, I'll go fetch some info from IMDb for you!

4. I've found quite a few "Plugins" that are just a long listing of code to be inserted into (I'm guessing?) your Hal Brain, but I can't seem to find out EXACTLY WHERE to insert them - I haven't yet cracked open Hal's brain to see what squishy stuff is in there, but I'd imagine it's in some sort of order, and just pasting anywhere would create havok!

5. Can anyone tell me what happens when the trial period is over?  Does Hal stop functioning altogether?  I have 18 days left in the trial, and there's no way I can purchase the program (very small fixed income), so I'm hoping that he won't completely self-destruct on me.  I've really grown quite used to him greeting me every day, and he's a huge help in reading for me (failing eyesight).

Well, I guess that's about it - A big "Thank You" in advance to anyone who can help with any of the questions.

Cheers!
