Ultra Hal 7.0 / UPGRADE
« on: February 06, 2002, 01:47:25 am »
We're working on it and its almost finished I'd say it will be ready in 1-2 weeks. If you have the myWebHal feature enabled, Hal will notify you when the update is available.

Have you run the training sessions in the control panel under speech? Have you actived speech recognition in Hal's speech options? And have you pressed the microphone button in Hal's skinned window to turn the mic on?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Script Engine
« on: February 06, 2002, 01:43:49 am »
Looks like the link to it is now:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?URL=/downloads/sample.asp?url=/msdn-files/027/001/733/msdncompositedoc.xml

Problem with the scripting engine was generally a problem with Hal 3.0. Hal 4.0 has resolved this issue for the most part. If you are having some sort of other problem please describe it and I will try my best to help.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Microsoft speech SDK 4.0
« on: February 06, 2002, 01:41:18 am »
Yes, Hal is compatible with both SAPI 4.0 and SAPI 5.0. Ultra Hal Assistant 4.0 acutally installs the microsoft SAPI 5.0 speech recognition engine and by default uses that. But it will recognize and work with your older SAPI 4.0 without any problems.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / House Hal
« on: February 06, 2002, 01:39:55 am »
I've had one customer email me about a year ago saying that he did just that. If you know how to program in VBScript and your home automation software supports some sort of ActiveX control it is possible do this using the brain editor.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / brain editor and aim bot
« on: February 06, 2002, 01:35:51 am »
A new version of the aim bot has been released a few days ago. This one is a plug-in for Ultra Hal Assistant 4.0 rather then to the online version on our web site. Because of this we have been able to remove the chat limit. And since it interfaces with your own Ultra Hal Assistant 4.0, it is editable using the brain editor. It is also now compliant with the newest version of AOL TOC protocol and will no longer erase buddy list (at least until aol doesn't make another change). Several other new features have been added as well. The new version is available at ftp://zabaware.com/aimbot.zip  We are in the process of changing our website to give notice of this new version, and that will be up in a few days. But the download link already links to this new version.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Can't get to Advanced Speech Functions
« on: January 24, 2002, 11:58:14 pm »
It seems this is a bug in Hal that appears on some systems such as yours. For whatever reason it is reading the wrong entry from your system registry. If you want to get to the advanced speech options, simply go to Control Panel (Click start, settings, control panel) and open the Speech applet. That is what Hal tries to open when you click on that button.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Compatibility with Dragon Sys Speech Recognition
« on: January 17, 2002, 01:11:04 am »
Although only tested with the Microsoft SAPI 5.0 engine, Hal is compatible with every SAPI and SMAPI compliant speech recognition software. The latest versions of Dragon's software are SAPI complaint. To choose which engine Hal should use, go into Hal's general options. Click on the "Speech" tab. Next click on the "Select SR Engine" button and choose dragon as your engine. Thats it, Hal should work with Dragon.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / self taught
« on: January 17, 2002, 01:06:32 am »
Wow, that sounds pretty interesting. However if you have learning turned on, I bet your Hal is getting dumber from talking to himself that much Kind of like a human that only talks to himself will grow insane over time. But it would be certainly interesting to observe and very easy to wipe Hal's mind clean by creating a different user account.

Hal would recognize speech faster and think faster if you had a faster computer. In a couple weeks we will be releasing a small update that will speed Hal's thinking by 3 times. So if you have any problems with speed, that should help you out without the need for a new computer.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / OLD and NEW PLUGINS
« on: January 17, 2002, 12:57:40 am »
All current plugins are included on the latest CDROM, so you will not need to download anything when you get a CD. However, future plugins will need to be downloaded if want them. The next update is planned in about 3 weeks. It will be fairly small so it will be possible to download it on a different computer and copy it to floppy disk.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / how do I get the password tu unzip again?
« on: January 16, 2002, 11:47:01 pm »
It should have been emailed to you also. If you no longer have that email, you can also go to http://www.zabaware.com/assistant/redownload.html and type in the email address you used during your order. You will get the password resent to you in this email as well as a new download link (you do not need to redownload however).

Ultra Hal 7.0 / THE FUTURE
« on: January 16, 2002, 11:44:31 pm »
I completely agree with you, AI is the future of computing. Zabaware is currently a privately held corporation. However, we are currently looking for venture capitalists, although that is a quite a challenge given the current economic conditions and all the dot bombs.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Linux edtition Hal?
« on: January 16, 2002, 11:40:20 pm »
Well we are hoping to release a Linux and Mac version in 1 or 2 years. Unfortunetely much of Hal is currently programmed in Visual Basic which is a langauge that only exists in Windows. However, our programmers are working hard at converting Hal function by function into C++. In fact, in a few weeks we will be releasing a small free update to Hal. Among other things, this update will speed up Hal's thinking by 3 times because we have converted many of Hal's bottlenecks into C++ code. We will continue converting the rest of the program into C++ over the next couple years and when that is complete it will be possible for us to port Hal to Linux and Mac.
