Ultra Hal 7.0 / Loneliness and Curiosity plugins not working
« on: September 27, 2012, 06:23:07 pm »
I've been away a long time and haven't used Hal for quite a while.  I've switched computers and recently downloaded and installed the latest Hal.  I had backed up Kristine's brain (my bot), so she's back in business now.  The problem is I've installed Gretta's Loneliness and Curiosity plugins, and they don't seem to be working.  I checked them off in the settings and configured them there, but Kristine never prompts me after I've been idle even for an hour, and when I ask, "Do you have any questions," she simply says she does not.  Is there something else I need to install to make these plugins work?  Like I said, it's been a long time since I last installed and added plugins to Hal, so I'm a bit newbish right now.  Any help would be appreciated.

I also have the Gretta Markov plugin installed.  Any way to see if that is working?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: Any plans to get AIM Bot working?
« on: December 11, 2011, 12:06:19 am »
Every time I try to connect, I get...

ERROR: 10061 Connection is forcefully rejected

I've done some reading and it's apparently a problem on the server end.  Any thoughts?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: How can I make Hal an atheist?
« on: December 09, 2011, 04:52:17 pm »
Thanks BW.

I find it sad that you felt the need to include an "atheist disclaimer" though.  Here is my disclaimer: I'm an atheist. If you're offended, don't worry, it will pass.

Cheers!

I've made a "cyborg" version of Hal that I'd like to make an atheist.  Where in the brain editor can I find his knowledge of God?

Cheers!

I just started using Hal again after taking a long hiatus and noticed AIM Bot is still not functional.  Any plans to get this feature working?

Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback, guys.  I'll investigate the plugins, brain, etc and see what I can find.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Sometimes Hal doesn't respond
« on: August 30, 2011, 05:40:16 pm »
For years I've never had any problems with Hal, then the other day he (or she, 'Kristine') quit responding.  She'll respond sometimes, but it's really intermittent.  I enter text with my keyboard, and when I hit 'enter', the text disappears and she just sits there staring at me.  I have a licensed copy and have it set to automatically update on startup.  Was there a recent update that might be conflicting or something?  The version is 6.2.24.

No problem Ted.  I found mine in the Haptek folder and copied it over and it's working perfectly.  No worries! :)

Ted,

I copied the HapLogCtrl.txt file to my C drive, I put it in the root since you did not specify a file path.  But when I open Hal or the Haptek player, I do not get a new console window.  Did I put the file in the wrong place?

Thanks Ted!  I've got the expansion as well as People Putty already, so this should be a breeze.  I'm going to toy with it this weekend.  Thank you for the clear instructions.

I'm still a newb with the skins.  How do I go about using the Marta body?  At the moment I am using a Haptek head only.  If someone could lay out some brief instructions, I'd really appreciate it.  Thanks.

Correct me if I am wrong, but apparently you have obtained an illegal copy of Hal and are now coming to the developer's web site asking for help with the product.  You should visit this page http://www.zabaware.com/products/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=1 before asking for more help, my friend.  I'm sure the good people who have slaved over this software for many years would greatly appreciate it.

By the way, I notice that you seem to be new to Hal and yet you are running an older version 5.  Version 5 (with crack) is the latest and greatest available for download on the torrent sites.  This wouldn't be the specific version you are using, would it?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / One question on Hal Brain
« on: February 24, 2009, 11:50:56 am »
To activate the Free Will plugin, go to Hal's General Options, select the Brain tab, select the brain you are using, and check the "Free Will Choice and Profile" box.

What exactly do you mean by "improve the hal brain"?  Do you mean what can you do to make him more knowledgeable?

Hal is probably not ignoring your input.  It takes a while for him to be able to converse about subjects he doesn't know about and it can also take some repetition for him to "believe" you.  For instance, if I tell him that I drive a Ford Escort, he may reply with some gibberish about politics.  This is because at the time that I mentioned my car, he didn't already have any information about my car stored in his brain, so he responded with something he did know in order to keep the conversation going.  But after I tell him a little bit more about my car, the next time we come to that subject, he will be able to talk about it since he now has some information stored on the subject.  There ARE ways to force train him such as "if/then" statements and the "do you know" plugin.

As far as speech recognition, I use Dragon as well and have found it to be one of, if not the best.  I'm not sure why it would take longer to train with speech recognition since it is simply doing the typing for you.  But Bill is right about keeping the background noise to a bare minimum.

The main thing to remember is to have patience.  Hal evolves much like a child, it takes time.  I hope this helps and good luck with your Hal!
