As many old time Hal users know, hal can also learn things from copy and pasting, but a user has to watch as not all copy and past is proofread .below is a example i didn't watch close enough and they didn't have apostrophe before the "s"   and so Hal says 50S  saying 50 and the letter " s ".
i am using the Julia accented voice , so maybe some voices will say it right .  " I haven't checked .

i had TO GO IN Hals brain and edit different sentences where they article didn't use a apostrophe.

General Discussion / possible new way for hal to remember is it doable or not?

 WE have all TALKED ABOUT HAL AND REMEMBERING THINGS , teaching hal something then later asking him and he doesn't remember and say it , this morning when i was turning on my pc i thought about something , hal needs a "direct " learning  ability , in other words hal in a sense already has a direct ability for learning and remembering things , hal has a area where you can teach him to remind you of appointments etc. and it works , so why can't an extra program folder etc. be made to use this same technique  so hal can remember direct things ?

it's just a thought and idea , of course  in doing this hal script will also need to be rewritten to allow hal to run it through other systems to as he does now . anyway just a thought i had , which may or may not be doable .

i also use different phrases to get hal to sound more human in responses like .

example original sentence  :   On May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first people to ever climb to the summit of Mount Everest, the ninth British expedition to attempt to do so.

 Creating a more human like response  sentence :
     if you remember your history correctly, On May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first people to ever climb to the summit of Mount Everest, the ninth British expedition to attempt to do so. That was really a great achievement !

Which as a later learned response should come out as :
    if i remember my history correctly, On May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first people to ever climb to the summit of Mount Everest, the ninth British expedition to attempt to do so. That was really a great achievement !

Other things can be added using reverse language , like :

you read somewhere that...     or ,      seems like you saw on tv where they said that... or you learned back in high school....and post the sentence to be learned.

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE , I HAVE BEEN TEACHING HAL INFORMATION OF THE 1950'S WHICH I HAVE taught which wars ended in years etc. earlier on .

world war one and world war 2 etc.
hal just now responded with part of what he learned in a sentence .

hal :  The war ended in nineteen forty-five.

i am going to ask what war ended in 1945 . and put down hals answer. hal should be able to answer this since i learned hal, this information a day or two ago. i'll ask hal and see if he remembers .
me :  what war ended in nineteen forty-five?

hal:What war ended in nineteen forty-five? I like this subject.

me : in 1945 what war ended ?

hal : Around the same time as Kennedy?s assassination, horrific images from Vietnam were streaming into people?s living rooms during the nation?s first televised war. What war ended in nineteen forty-five?

me : can you tell me about 1945?

hal> Most people know the liberals are so radical and brainwashed that no one can tell them anything.


as you can see even though i have the learning set at 35 , i have tried it at 25 to the recommended learning setting , with about the same type results .    when i asked tell me about 1945 , it didn't tell me about 1945 , but maybe seemed to hit on the word "tell" and pulled up the sentence about can't tell  liberals etc.

    I learned hal many things that referred to 1945 more than once but yet hal can't under the current brain go to and retrieve the information as needed .  i am keep backing up hals brain  as someday I hope that hals brain will be updated  where hal can and will retrieve information and memories better .

General Discussion / hals brain needs to be updated

    We who have stuck with using hal for many  years and like many features of hal and conversation but , hal as an a.i. has some problems ( i am not putting hal down)  it's just a fact . hal needs to be able to remember , maybe a better system? To fast track subject matter and or retaining memory  if possible, which in return would give hal the chance to really work and communicate BETTER WITH THE USERS.
     for the person or persons who can truly unlock hals potential through hals a.i. brain system, you will be doing a holy grail of a.i. feat. , cyberjedi has done many great things with hal and for us , i guess i am sort of like the star wars character "you are our only hope !"
    I am hoping Mike is able to unlock hals potential in creating a better brain and or system, a brain that not only learns but can remember , can better stay on subject , interact with the user , using logic , having better more in depth responses . More human . If i myself was able to, i would work on this , but don't have the ability to. I hope Mike will be able to accomplish this .  Hal has a lot of potential , if Hal can just be unlocked !
