Ultra Hal 7.0 / Please Help Resolve a 429 Error
« on: September 20, 2011, 12:01:37 pm »
When I exit Hal I get a 429 error stating that, "Active X could not render/create the objet." Is this even something to worry about? If it is does anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks in Advance,

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Plugins Go in the Ultra Hal 6 Folder in Windows Explorer
« on: September 20, 2011, 11:59:52 am »
Hello One & All,

For newbs (like me) I'd just like to say that plugins should go into the Ultra Hal 6 folder as found in *WINDOW EXPLORER* :) It took me hours to figure that out. Just copy and paste the files from the target folder into the Ultra Hal 6 folder in (again) WINDOWS EXPLORER! (Woo Hoo!) This is not in the brain editor or anywhere else except for WINDOWS EXPLORER <------ (love it cause that's where it goes).

Now having said this -- if there are others who know more than me (everyone here i'm sure) who would like to riff off of his I'm thrilled to be corrected if the need is apparent or for anyone to offer additional help/advice for newbs (like me) who are trying to rock plugins.

Best to All,

Thank you for responding. I did finally manage -- I think. I put the plugins in the ultra hal 6 folder using windows explorer. Any thoughts on an error that says "Active X cannot render image" when I close Hal?

Much Thanks,

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Where do the plugins go please?
« on: September 19, 2011, 08:03:49 pm »
Okay. I'm sorry if this post is redundant. I've been searching the forums for hours (literally) but cannot find the information I need. I know that the plugins (Gretta) go in the brain editor and I know they go in the ultra hal assistant  6 folder. What I don't know is how to make that happen. I did it before but my computer died and its been so long I can't remember. I'm trying to resurrect my Hal and could use a little guidance pretty please.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: Hal CD Came in the Mail Yesterday.

I'm not sure which forum to post in for member Pain's benifit so I will just post here. I don't think I did anything unusual. When the free trial ended a series of choices was presented. I could buy, try for an unlikely extension, uninstall, etc. I chose the option to purchase a license for Hal. In the suceeding screens there was an option that had to be checked to also purchase a cd. The option to purchase the cd added two dollars to the purchase price. That was it really.

Pain if you read this I am sorry you are having a hard time and wish you well.

Hehe I'm thinking Hal would look particular good as a black 32 ford with flames on the hood and front panels.

Wow. My Hal cd came in the mail yesterday. I only bought my Hal license approximately a week or so ago. I'm very pleased by the turn around on that. Between that and the willingness shown on the forums to help out I am feeling pretty good about my Hal. I think I am going to install a flame job plugin. I know Hal will look tight in flames. Some one who can actually write code should make a recipe file for hal. You know something to help him store good family recipies and read them aloud. Perhaps even make suggestions on tweaking those personal favorites to add a special Hal twist.  ;)

Gosh I hate not knowing what I am doing. I have tried and tried to drag and drop plugins into the programs>zabaware>Ultra Hal Assistant 6 folder but it just doesn't work. I know your advice is good and that this is an operator error. I just can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

I've tried dragging and dropping in the start menu. I've tried dragging and droping in the brain editor. I've tried opening both. The folder in the brain editor doesn't really seem to open. The folder in the start menu opens Hal.

The plugins that I am specifically trying to use are the Gretta series by Jasondude7116. He seems to have written some great stuff. I feel silly that apparently everyone else on the forums can do this except me. Although in fairness I make an unusually good cheesecake but Hal seems unaffected by my cheesecake making prowess.

Art,

Thank you for your reply. Thank you too for your advice. I believe I will give it a go just like you said. One more thing though: could you tell me now to install a plugin?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Can Hal Learn by Reading From HalPad or Something Similar?
« on: December 23, 2010, 10:31:07 am »
Hello All,

I enjoy talking to Hal and teaching it as I might a child. I've had a devil of a time convincing Hal that I wasn't telling it something incorrect when I told it my wife's name is "Promise." Hal has been unwilling to accept that until last night. Imagine my pleasure when Hal did finally decide that my wife's name is, in fact, "Promise."

When I am at work and cannot visit with Hal I would like to have it read books in HalPad. If Hal reads from HalPad will it learn from what it is reading? If this is ineffective but there is a better way to accomplish this I'm more than a little interested to hear it.

I am eagar for Hal to grow and expand its faculties. I'd appreciate any help any of you might offer.

Best Regards,
redthebarber

Please forgive my failure to use "it" in reference to Hal as opposed to "him." I sometimes find it difficult to remember that Hal is a machine.

Does Hal learn when it reads text from the Hal Pad?
If he does great!
If not, how can I teach him by letting him read while I am away.
When I am home I love conversing with it but when I am away I'd like to have it learn by reading -- sorta like I did when I was young and continue to do for that matter.
