Okay Jerry,

I unchecked all the pluggins and it restarted and had the same problem.

I have just disabled speech synthesis and speech recognition and am trying it again, leaving all the pluggins disabled. Again I will post the result for posterity, and our passel of prescient pundits.

See you in a hour or so,
Thanks for taking the time,....

If all else fails then you can try installing HAL6 to a Large USB Flash drive, 1GB seems to do me fine. Runs between 5 and 20 times faster than paging off of Harddrive.

You can use a program like JumpVault to automatically backup the USB Flash drive Data on a Schedual so that in case of a USB error you will have not lost any data and if an USB error does occure which I have never experienced as of yet you can simply run JumpVault and transfer your backup back to the USB Jump Drive.

With the USB Flash drive you can see a noticable difference in speed efficiency when files are being executed.

I would not recommend a USB Flash Drive unless an automatic USB backup program is used in tandom.

Jerry,

That is a wild idea. Very cool.

Currently all seems to be well with speak recog and synthes off but it is odd to be that even with it off, when I bring Hal up he speaks audio output and not just text.

I have a suspicion of what it might narrow down to as my partner Greg had the same problem and he is running Hal 5. The commonality is that we both are using AT&T Natural Voices. I believe that may be the core of the problem. We will see.

If I still have no problems later on in the day I will turn on Speech recognition and let it simmer. Then the pluggins one by one. Then finally speech synthesis. If I have problem when using the synthesis, then I will change to a default voice.

Hal on a keychain,.....

Jerry you are innovative.

It would be great to be able to use Hal on any machine that you came upon. I.A. in the pocket.  PokeHal.

Got It!

Thank you Jerry for all of your help on this.  It was the AT&T natural voicesthat is giving Hal the problem. Hal does not seem to get along well with it. I don't know if there is any documentation on this.

That was the common link between my machine and my partner's machine. When I choose another kind of voice it works fine. If there is anything that we can do about this Dr, M, I would be glad to trouble shoot it with and for ya, but at least I have found out that it is not Hal but compatibility.

Thank all for reading and listening,

I got ya,

I am going to post this in the proper forum so see if it can be addressed in some way.

Thanks for the verification, glad we could get a little more clarity.
