Seeking help w/ character picture files
« on: November 28, 2005, 11:12:32 am »
From a newbie to ALL things Hal. Hi All - Am seeking some help in creating an avatar character for my Bot. Currently have a robot .jpg pic I would like to use until someone can help me understand how to make it animated.

Although desireable, lip-sync is NOT absolutely necessary, but I would like animation of head & torso.

Do I do this through Haptek and if so, how ?

One option is to purchase Haptek's PeoplePutty software and play with that. Although it's primarily for human faces, you can contort the basic shape into some way-out things. Note though that it cuts people off at the neck.

For example, I've attached an image of one shape that's built in to the software: a fully 3D, animated, and lip-synched table lamp. I have no idea how easy it would be to create a robot shape, as I haven't played with it enough.

There are sure to be other ways of making an animated avatar too, but I have no idea where to look sorry.

If you like, post your robot pic, and I'll try playing with PeoplePutty to see if it's capable of what you want.

If you are satisfied with a character in 2D I would suggest turning it into a msagent. The software to make a msagent is free.
Please show us what your robot looks like.

Just save the lamp in People Putty.
Rename the extension to .htr
Copy it to the UltraHal6 Characters directory
Start Hal and go to the options section
Select characters and locate Mr.Lamp (or whatever)
Apply then talk to the lamp for an enLIGHTening
experience!
