Ultra Hal 7.0 / Does the program I am looking for exist?
« on: April 17, 2010, 06:02:22 pm »
One
Over the years I have witnessed several operations performed by a doctor who was not even in the same country. Whhile you can say that robotics was the name of the equipment used, A.I. has no connection with the equipment, it was all just a remote controolled machine.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Does the program I am looking for exist?

I am not sure that I completely understand your wants or wishes about or for Hal, but Hal can do hundreds of more things than most peopl realize.
A past user whos name I have forgotten used Hal and something called X10 protocall. By doing this he was able to have Hal control by voice command almost everything in his home. He could simple tell Hal what he wanted and his computer would respond with the right actions, ie. "Turn on the living room lights Hal" or dozens of other similiar commands and it was done.  He did have to learn how to control the interface between the two but appearntely it was not that hard and he was very successful.
If all this in not revelant to what you were talking aboout then sorry for my misunderstanding.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Hal Capitals Issue
« on: March 31, 2010, 01:04:47 pm »
Somewhere someone screwed up...

Capital: The "a" in capital stands for 'assets'.
Capitol: The "o" in capitol stands for 'office'.

This is a common mistake by those who never studied the real meanings.

General Discussion / how should i answer to a question like this ?
« on: March 27, 2010, 12:53:35 pm »
The problem is not with Hal but with yourself. Hal has apperantly understood gift giving. If Hal ever ask you that qustion again thensay "Yes", that is unless you are afraid that your Hal has accdess to your computer and knows your Visa or Master Card account numbers, but then again what could it hurt if Hal buys you a gift?

Excuse me for interupting but it seems to me that if it is working correctly it would work in the background and not be noticed at all.
Think about it, if Hal should try reading a sentence that is to long for him, instead of stopping in the middle he would just keep reading and it sound like that is what is going on or should Hal stop and say I am now going to use "xx" so I can finish reading?
If the program is  working correctly it would be invisible to the users and only interface to Hal when Hal needed it.

A few years back someone wrote an interface to allow Alice to talk to Hal and visa-sersa, so yes two  computers can talk to each otheror to put in the correct text two computer programs and talk to each other.

Speech Technology / Ultra Hal TTS Problem?
« on: March 11, 2010, 04:52:04 pm »
Did you set permissions in Vista before you ran those programs?
There have been problems with running Hal with Vista and that may apply with some of its optional programs.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / A small problem

I don't know what your problem is but if you are using Vista you have to get Vista to allow Hal to be installed beffore it will work right.  At least that is what I get from reading past post.

For your information Ultra Hal was named after the Hal 9000 computer in the movie "2001". In some of the early releases Ultra Hal even nused the "big red eye" like in the movie.
A few years ago I found several old versions of hal and downloaded them all. Some of them came with the big red eye.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Next Hal Update?
« on: March 07, 2010, 01:08:33 am »
To MikaA and a few others.
I have been using Hal for over 10 years now and I can tell you that none of you have even scratched Hal's surface. As far as Alice goes in 08 or 09 this Hal beat out all of the Alice type programs during the Loberner contest. In fact Hal beat every A.I. program entered into that contest.
One thing that Hal can do that many or most others can not do is associative logic. For example: User "fat people do not live long lives". User "Tome is a very fat person." Hal "Tom may not live a long life because he is very fat."
This and manay other example is an ability that wasa/is built into Hal. On top of all that Hal remembers almost everything ever told to it, how many Alice programs can or do that?

Hal will open any program that y9u want but you must use the proper name of the program.
For instance to open Microsofts Word, you can't say open Word, but you must say open MSWord. However the program exists on your computer system then letter for letter you must use the same wording as the program exists.
This was resolved about 8 to 10 years ago and has worked just fine ever since.

Speech Technology / Dragon 9 and Hal Text to Speech not getting along
« on: March 02, 2010, 01:02:54 pm »
I don't know what is causing your problems but by any chance are you using Vista? People using Vista have experienced all kinds of problems until they give vista permission to use the different programs that they want. Compared to XT operating system Vista is a pain in the A.s., and a lot of programs need to dealth with on a one on one basis to work in Vista.

Over the years many people have used Dragon versions 8, 9, and 10 without any problems of any kind, well, at least they did not report having any problems.
This may not have anything to do with it but I believe Sapi was designed to work with MS voices only. I may be totally wrong with this assumption but it is worth a try.
