Ultra Hal 7.0 / Idea
« on: May 15, 2005, 11:24:35 am »
I think that someone had a script for something like this.

Hal would come up with comments during idle time.

Try searching the forums for "idle".

I had an interesting weekend getting the haptek characters to respond properly to keywords.  Now hal looks sad when i mention sad topics.
I realised that the program was only showing a default set of emotions (with the XTF brain) which bore no relation to the words you typed - so with a bit of digging around and a lot of eyestrain later I have an emotional Hal!

Goodl luck the idle, its on my list of things to do, I'll see what I can come up with.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / here are some emotion files and texture comms

in response to bryant:

it is possible to get these characters onto a website, but I wouldn't know how yet - try www.haptek.com forums pages/support to see what packages they do.
also- yes they will lipsync, but on hal it is with the dodgy older american male/female voices that sound like they are coming through some kind of plumbing system.  Its good to see the lipsync but the voices drive me insane, I have just been using the better new voices like neo, babel etc, which are a lot better but you lose the lipsync.

I have got the full body to work by adapting the method crunch has been describing.  Initially I ran through crunch's changes and in doing so updated the files that control the emotions HAL displays.  Then I got the body file and exchanged it for the existing Zaba file.
Along with the fullbody file were some HAP files that generate further emotions from the fullbody, and I placed them alongside the existing ones. Also there was some kind of DEFINITION coding along with the full body that I put into the character file too (this looked like it might be useful!).

Now the character has full emotions, which are really quite surprising in quality.  I swore a couple of times and she became balistic and started throwing a tantrum!!  It got quite scary so I had to reset her!!  Also the sad/upset emotions are a very effective display.

Anyway I think you might just be missing the HAP files that cause the emotions, or perhaps some other files.

If you post the contents of your Characters file (together with extensions) then maybe together with the expert Crunch we can help you out??

Bear in mind i am new to this though!

You can change the light directions for the full body too, but I am yet to figure out how this can be implemented effectively.

thanks to you crunch for putting all this info up.

I'm new to this and it was a great help, this is a great set of programs and a lot of fun, but i wouldn't know where to start if it we're for the generosity of people like yourself.

I dabble with graphics so will have to put up a few skins as thanks in the future!

btw did anyone notice that you can pick the figure up with your mouse and throw it around the screen!  Quite amusing, like a cross between barby and supergirl.  You can zoom in as well and rotate the poor girl all over the place!

Have fun.

Cheers all.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / hal does not want to work!
« on: May 03, 2005, 09:24:42 am »
ITS OKAY.

I have fixed it - updating direct X to v9 sorted it out.

Just for the record though, it seems to work okay with
Bullguard Firewall and Virus scan.

Thanks anyway!!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / hal does not want to work!
« on: May 03, 2005, 07:34:20 am »
hi - hal just doen't want to say hello!

The program installs fine, most of the options on the right-click
menu of the hal icon seem to work like the brain editor etc.

Problem is left-clicking the hal icon to actually run hal just freezes up my pc completely.

I've looked for system requirements but can't seem to find any.
My PC isn't runnig a lot as I completely reset it, so there's no Virus software or firewalls.  It's running (or not!) on a celeron 1GHZ with windows 98.

Would Direct X version make any difference?
I'm using a Radeon 9000 video card.
Soundcard is SB compatible by 3com.

As you can see my PC isn't really top of the range(!), but I would have thought it would be able to run this okay.

Thanks if anyone can help.
