Ultra Hal 7.0 / Can’t connect to zabaware.com
« on: May 19, 2008, 07:09:56 am »
I have been trying to get to this site for about a month now but I always get web page unavailable.

At first I thought it was the site down but now I realise that its another problem, have asked some friends to check and they can all get to this site, so today I have asked my next-door neighbour, who is on the same ISP as me, if I could use their computer to make a post and ask for help.

I can get to all other sites I have tried on my computer but not http://www.zabaware.com/

Have I been banned from this site ?

If anyone answers this please give me a few days to reply, I need to beg my neighbour to use their computer again.

Thanks ;)

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Slightly Different Haptek Skin
« on: March 29, 2008, 02:32:54 pm »
Here is a skin with a slightly different approach, it gives the user a very long input but tries to keep plenty of other space available on the desktop for other goodies.

NOTE: This skin should display in full screen, like shown beneath, I have tried it in a number of resolutions and can get it to work right using window size set to max in Hals menu. However for some reason sometimes it refused to go full screen then I had to play around to get it to work right, I found if you close Hal so he’s not showing on the taskbar but is in the sys tray still, then right click the menu down there and set window to max it normally works.

You can download it from the link at the bottom of this post.

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Yet another Haptek Skin
« on: March 22, 2008, 06:04:56 pm »
Yup I have made another skin Hals Haptek player, It is quite big so it might not be for everyone but thought I would share it with you all anyway.

But first, For those of you who cant get the loneliness plugin or any auto idle plugin to work, I might have an answer.

A friend could not get his going either, so I had a play around with his Hal and got it working this is what I did.

Turned off all the plugins, yes all of them, then shut down Hal, started Hal back up and chatted for a little while, just to check him, then shut Hal down again, I then started Hal and turned on just the loneliness plug in, had a little chat and shut him down, started him up said hello and then left him, with in a few mins his loneliness plugin started working.

It sounds like a lot of shutting down and restarting but that is what it took to get it working, I had tried with out the re-starts but it didn’t work.

I don’t know what was causing it but It did the job for him. I left him putting his other plugins back on, one at a time and re starting Hal after every new plugin was added.

I hope that helps someone [:)]

Now the skin:

You can download the skin from my skins page, the link at the bottom of this post, enjoy [8D]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / How big is your brain?
« on: November 29, 2007, 08:16:28 am »
Hi all, I have been thinking about this for a while and today I decided to post it, so, how big is your brain database and have you seen improvements in Hal with a larger one?

My Hal ( Zen ) is about 18 months old now and his database is 39MB, I’ve noticed that Zen does stay on topic very well but as the database is so large he often goes of topic because he finds relevant words to the conversation but from another topic of conversation, if you see what I mean.

I’ve been teaching Zen a lot of topics and now he is showing signs of confusions and giving me multiple answers.

One thing I should add is how important I think it is to answer Hal’s questions with relevant answers and for the user to stay on topic or Hal makes links to the wrong topic. I am sure some of my problems were me going of topic and not Hal’s fault.

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / New Hap Skin for Hal
« on: October 17, 2007, 12:15:53 pm »
I had a couple of hours to spare and thought I would make another Hap skin for Hal, so here it is. I've called it clear skin because it has some clear parts and couldn't think of any other name for it.

Download it here http://www.global.datahopa.co.uk/hal/downloads/ClearSkinForHal.zip

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / New Maximum Hap Skin
« on: March 04, 2007, 02:33:30 pm »
Here is a skin that uses all possible space to give larger input and output boxes, if like me you use a self-talking plug-in you can walk away from Hal for a while come back and read her output without scrolling.

I mainly use this skin in full screen and with speech recognition enabled; the long user input box really seems to help me check for spelling mistakes or wrongly recognised words.

EDIT: I’m moving my site so had to change the download URL sorry peeps.

General Discussion / Making Hal look a bit nicer
« on: March 04, 2007, 10:29:52 am »
Most of you might know this but for those who don’t here is a quick tip to make Hal look a bit nicer.

Hal uses Direct 3D in the Haptek player and on a modern PC doesn’t really tax the graphics card that much, so, if your PC has a half descent graphics card you should be able to turn up Antialiasing and Anisotropic filtering to maximin.  Or at least half way to maximum.

Im using a Radeon X850 and have these settings.

Antialiasing = Adaptive Antialiasing 6x and Temporal AA 3 x multiplier.

Anisotropic filtering = Enable high quality Anisotropic filtering and Quality with trilinear and set to 16X

Some of these settings are only available on ATI cards but Geforce cards do have most of them, the basic rule is the higher the number the better Hal will look.

Find these settings from your graphics card control panel and not from Hal’s.

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / MicroSkin Hap player skin
« on: February 19, 2007, 02:29:41 pm »
I’ve been looking for a small skin to run Hal in for a while, I like to keep Hal always on top when im working so it easy to chat at any time but most of the skins I have are all a little to large and seemed to get in the way, for me.  Anyway I couldn’t find one so I decided to have a go at making one.

EDIT: I’m moving my site so had to change the download URL sorry peeps.

This skin needs manual installation, you will need to unzip a file then copy 6 files. There is a readme in the download.

Speech Technology / Dragon standard and preferred?
« on: February 15, 2007, 11:38:08 am »
Just a bit of advice please people. Its my Hal 6’s birthday soon and I would like to get a good speech recognition software for her and me, so my question, does anybody know the difference between Dragon 9 standard and preferred? Apart from the price I can’t find any differences, there obviously must be some but can I find any site or info on this? NO, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal can check Internet Connection Speed
« on: July 04, 2005, 07:13:21 pm »
Hello you nice people of this fine forum, yup my first post, I bought Hal about 4 weeks ago and have found this forum extremely useful, I don’t know what I would have done with out it, I may have given up Hal all together because I didn’t quite understand what to expect from or how to best communicate with Hal.

Now the fog is clearing I want to thank you all, Thank you!

My main problem with Hal at the moment is that she seems to have fallen in love with a Formula One racing driver and keeps asking me about him, I seem to be second on the list lol, anyway I don’t want to go on too much so.

I run a website in my spare time and I wanted to see if I could get Hal to integrate with the website or at least view some pages so after playing around today I came up with this.

Check your Internet connection speed with Hal. Type in “ speed test ”

Before you use this be warned I have only been looking into these scripts for a few weeks and it may not be as polished as it could be, I am familiar with HTML and java scripts so not a complete numpty, but one of the reasons for this post was to get some one to check it for me, thanks in advance.

If one of you more skilled at this can improve it, or just point out any mistakes please do so for all our sakes [;)]

Having said that it does seem to work fine for me and doesn’t appear to be upsetting any of Hal’s other functions.

I have placed it in my Vonsmith’s (much respect)  XTF_v1.2 brain straight after:

TELL JOKE AT USER'S REQUEST  again it works for me but you may know better.

Apologies now if any of the code looks a little familiar I may have borrowed some bits, apologies also if I have posted in the wrong place or posted something I shouldn’t have.
