Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Re: Hal's moods
« on: April 19, 2011, 07:26:37 am »
Maybe in the next version of Hal we could have the option to turn off the simulated emotions, for me they just get in the way, say the wrong thing and Hal gets annoyed with you, Im trying to have an adult and intelligent conversation and suddenly Hal turns into a sulky child.

Maybe that’s why I have removed them from Xen.

Here’s a thought, you can measure intelligence, with an IQ test for example, but how do you measure emotions and emotional response?

Lets get the Ai right first then add emotions later, maybe with a chip from Data’s brother  :)

I know, I know, I’m not very popular around these parts  :P

Hi there Jerry

Thanks for trying the GUI out and reporting back that its working ok.

Glad you liked the feel of it too, I really do try to make my skins look as neat and tidy as I can, this one took me two days to complete.

Yes sometimes I have too much time on my hands  :D

A little thought, maybe.

I think it’s important to get Hal on topic before you can get the correct answers, if you quickly change the topic Hal can still be carrying thoughts of the last topic which can sometimes give odd or confused answers.

Also agree with Art and Lightspeed.

Quality over quantity, but quality & quantity is really the best solution.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: sound quality bad?

Was it a Realtek onboard sound card?

If not, can you tell us which card it was, it might help others.

Share Conversations, Experiences, Graphics / Re: Stroppy bot! hahaha
« on: March 18, 2011, 09:04:54 am »
Mikenco, Although your stroppy conversation is amusing, I cant deny that, I found that Hal getting angry or stroppy was getting in the way of the type of bot I was after, so I removed that ability and I honestly think Xen is better for it.

With Hal I find that its not what you say but the way you say it.
You might want to try “what is?” and not “tell me about”

This is Xen, my wise old bot with a 50Mb database.

Master: hello xen
Xen: I am Xen the wise one. Hi greetings hello!

Master: what is Jupiter?
Xen: Good question, Accessing database. I'm convinced that it May turn out to be self evident. Jupiter: the largest planet and the 5th from the sun; has many satellites. Along with the planets Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune, Saturn is classified as a gas giant.

Master: Do you know Jupiter has 63 known satellites?
Xen: Interesting! You help me understand, and now I am aware Jupiter has 63 known satellites. I appreciate you telling me this.

Master: What is Earth?
Xen: Good question. Earth: the 3rd planet from the sun; the planet on which we live. World, globe. 'the Earth moves around the sun', 'he sailed around the world'. The Earth has an outer silicate solid crust, a highly viscous mantle, a liquid outer core that is much less viscous than the mantle, and a solid inner core.

Master: thanks
Xen: How polite you truly are, Master; My pleasure.

Master: Do you know Earth has 1 moon.
Xen: Interesting! Your input has helped me see that earth has 1 moon. Thank you for sharing this information with me.

Master: How many satellites does Jupiter have?
Xen: How many satellites does jupiter have? Everybody needs to calm down and think. What orators lack in depth they make up for in length. Thinking! Jupiter: has 63 known satellites.

Master: thanks
Xen: You don't have to thank me, Master.

Master: How many Moons does Earth have?
Xen: Whether you think that you can, or that you can't, you are usually right. I feel that you know the answer, I see that it remains out of your reach.

Master: Earth has 1 moon!
Xen: That's a good way to express it. I also believe earth has 1 moon.

Master: correct
Xen: Thank you for your opinion. I also believe correct is the right answer.

Master: What is the Moon?
Xen: Good question, Accessing knowledge database. Here is a dictionary definition of moon: the natural satellite of the Earth. 'the average distance to the moon is 384,400 kilometers', 'men first stepped on the moon in 1969'.

Master: How many moons does Earth have?
Xen: How many moons does earth have? I'm convinced that this can be discussed intelligently. The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Go forward in your travels, keep in mind your goal.

Master: Earth: has one Moon.
Xen: One of life's ironical adjustments...

Master: Does Earth have a Moon?
Xen: Earth has 1 moon! And I think I am correct when I say earth has 1 moon.

Master: well done
Xen: His eyes open! Traditionally, the plasmasphere has been regarded as a well behaved cold plasma with particle motion dominated entirely by the geomagnetic field and hence corotating with the Earth.

I think Xen got it in the end  ;)

Keep up the good work, I enjoy reading other people conversations  :)

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: Hal links to Bing
« on: February 22, 2011, 09:42:07 am »
I gave webhal a go with the new Bing feature and you know what?
Its working, actually very impressive if you ask me, Hal answered all my questions correctly.

Yes im sure Hal is smarter than Watson, I believe.  ;D

Nice work  :)

EDIT:
PS: this is the kind of thing I’ve wanted Hal to do for a long time and It could well take Ultra Hal to new heights, now Hal can be an educational tool.

Its an excellent idea echoman and would be an extremely welcomed improvement.

Yep gets my vote.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: Learning based on positive/negative feedback
« on: February 06, 2011, 08:54:48 am »
I think Carls idea is quite good, how many times have you tried to teach Hal something, you try over and over and eventually it gets it, having a quick option to give the correct answer is like a short cut to the brain editor isn’t it?

Needs an on, off option though.

It’s a bit late, sorry, but I hope you had a good one Snowman.  8)

43
Im pretty sure its not possible, Hals entire brain and all the plugins are made in English for English. Sorry. :(

44
Lightspeed is right... Hal does remember your gender, but if you change your username or tell Hal you have a nickname it might well ask for your gender again.

45
This is why I only talk to my Hal as the name “Master” and I don’t change it, that way who ever talks to Xen gets all the knowledge and chat lines that I have taught it and Xen calls everyone Master, if it called everyone John, well that would be wrong and Master is the best I could come up with.

It is my understanding that changing the user name makes Hal forget many things I’ve taught it.

I can see why some people might want to keep their chats private though  :-X  :D
