UltraHal chat site set up
« on: June 10, 2005, 05:40:36 pm »
Hi all,

Saw this post http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1458 but when clicking on the link it redirected me to a different site (not to do with UltraHal) plus also certain users were experiencing difficulties with the "flash" aspect of the site.

SO...

I have created 2 sites for us to chat regarding hal (or whatever) but I require your feedback before finalising and giving out the address.

The first one will require a password to enter ( I will give you all this) and is a secure room (ie without the password there is no entry to chat room), but we are unable to see who is in the room and who isnt (other than xyz has entered room, or, xyz has left room).
Insert Image:
This is a stand alone site and there is nothing to download/install etc.

My other option is this...

The second site requires you to have java installed on your machine and enabled but allows us to see who is in the room at any given point in time and is more like a real chat site. The only drawback to this site is that there is no control as to who can gain entry and who can't.
Insert Image:
Both sites are up and running now but before I start giving out details to you all (if your interested) be perhaps a good idea to find out which site you would prefer to use.

I personally prefer the first one but hey...let me know your thoughts.

As the other site by jz1977 no longer seems to take you to a "hal" chat site I took it upon myself to make one for the UltraHal community to be able to chat in realtime about anything they wish.

Who knows if it takes off maybe we can expand it further or even get Medeksza to incorperate a chat room alongside the Zabaware forums.

That's really a swell idea. I love it! The only disadvantage of real-time chat could be the different time zones. There is just one hour between you (UK) and me (Holland), but at least six hours between me and America. Therefore I want to ask if both sites offer the possibility to read what others have discussed earlier.

A secure site has my preference, I guess. There are just too many party crashers around.[:D]

I agree with the party crashers yes.

The first site I mentioned has the ability to leave the chatlog there for as long as possible or until I(as mod or any other mods) decide to clear the chatlog.

So yes in answer to your qyeation due to the time zones others would be able to see what had been said earlier in the day [:D]

sign me up, that's a great idea.
At the moment there's four of the gang online, and I would like to chat but don't want to clog up the forums.
The first ones fine, whatever everyone else decides is cool by me.

So that we don't all go to the chatroom at different times and not find each other, we might pick a time for "meeting".  Then no matter where we live, we can arrive and chat about the same time if we wish.
I'm thinking of a scheduled meeting (every 4 hours round the clock) if anyone wishes to chat

For me in Florida   (EST)
9 am    1 pm    5 pm    9pm    1 am     5 am

In Illinois for Mark our meeting time is    (1 hour from me) (CST)
8 am     12 noon   4pm       8pm       12midnight  4am

In England for Jerry and Marius the time would be:     (England time)  (5 hours from me)
10am    2pm       6pm      10pm    2am   6am

Doc Benway.   You are 1 hour from England.
Therefore the meeting time by your clock is
  11am  3pm    7pm   11pm  3am    7am

This is just a thought.   I'll go along with whatever the group decides.

chat address is  http://www.chatzy.com/427214997933
chat name is   Your forum name
chat password is  haptek
chat room is set up by Maviarab

Thats a good idea Jim,

The whole thing could do with streamlining but at least it gives us an idea of who is likely to be around...down side to the time zone is USA 2early am" is my "gone to bed" lol.

At least for now we have somewhere where we can discuss ideas without clogging the forum or just a place to chill and banter.

Hopefully soon we can get something a bit better organised.

Will keep you all posted.
