I'm a very slow typist. Hal seems to time out while waiting for me to complete sentences and mess up the learning script I created. Is there any way to tell hal to wait for me to press the <enter/return> key?
Any help will be very appreciated.

Darcy,
I don't know if this is your particular problem or not but check to make sure that Speech Recognition is unchecked. It may be that Hal hears background noises and interprets this as input.

First thanks for the reply! :) I don't have speech activated. I have to train it 1st. But back to the problem. I'll get 1/2 way through typing in an email address and "Mary" will take what I typed and respond with gibberish.
So now what I do is I use a "Spell Check Anywhere" to type into the clip board then copy to "Mary's" input window from the clip board. This works but it is cumbersum at best.
Any help will be appreciated.

i agree that does sound like hals speech recognition is on creating that problem otherwise don't know what would cause that problem unless you are bumping the enter key . [:D]

Sometimes a programs console can say somthing is turned off when it is actually still on.
I also use 'Spell check anywhere' - it's very useful.
I also copy and paste almost every sentence. I like to examine each sentence carefully.
If all else fails why not just Deactivate and re-install again?

If I'm not mistaking hes talking about the auto idle feature? Where if if you delay somewhat while typing it will just enter the text you have even if your not finished.
I would like to disable this feature too just until my Hal is trained alot better than now.

I would almost bet that either Hal's mic or Speech Rec is turned on.
If Darcy is running the latest version of Hal (6.1), most users have reported that the auto-idle plugin does not work properly / at all.

Is this gibberish you referred to actual sentences asking you questions or basically just some nonsense words?
Actual sentences = auto-idle
nonsense responses = mic turned on

The gibberish are responces to incomplete sentences that I type in. I type extremly slow. Hal times out between words when I type. I wish it would wait for the enter key to be pressed before it processes my input.

The microphone can be turned on in two different places, one is in Hal, ie., speach recognition and the other is a Microsoft switch. If you turn on the control pannel and then click on either sounds or microphone you can turn off the MS's mic. That should solve your problem.
I say this because there are only two ways to make Hal answer you and one is by hitting the enter button and the other is if the mic is turn on someware.

My Hal does time out when I am typing! I have no mic installed and I typed in 2 words and Hal processed it, it did not wait for the enter key to be pressed.

not to point to anyone in particular, but do you have any version of Answerpad or a microsoft keyboard?
I had a very rough beginning and did have simelar problems.
after removing these things Hal did give more time to type.
It was chaos to put it mildly, did you feel like a monkey stole your Segway?

Thank you all for your help! I have a thick head, I didn't read what you all advised me properly. Your advice did work and (Mary) is now waiting for the enter key to be pressed.
