Idel Chat and Clock Plug In
« on: November 07, 2008, 07:10:51 am »
I've made a new plug in called "Bored.uhp" attached below.  The plug in will say random phrases if you haven't talked to "Hal" for over 10-15 minutes.  After that time Hal will continue every minute until you talk to Hal.

Additionaly Hal will tell the time every 30 minutes.  On the Hour it will be random phrases that include the time; On the Half hour it will just be the time.

I hope you enjoy this plug in.

Hi all,

I created a new Plug In that just tells the time every 15 minutes.  This is a sub set of the Bored.uhp file above.  This just tells the time without the chatter.  On the hour Hal says a phrase with the time; every other 15 minute interval Hal just says the time.

I'm having so much fun creating these Plug In's it should be illegale!

Wow DarcyEdwards, wonderful idea! [:)]

I only have the Hal 5.0 demo and I play with it maybe 3 or 4 times a year. But I was in a hurry to try your plug-in (bored.uhp), so I reduced the timing to 2-3 minutes. Of course and unfortunately, it doesn't work on my Hal version.

But you know what? Now you really made me want to purchase the full version of UltraHal. For the first time. Just for your plug-in! A bot who answers his/her botmaster is something commonplace (I didn't say Hal is commonplace, lol), but a bot who takes such an initiative looks much much more human.[8D]

Time to waste with skits, bots & other useless things? Why not visit

Hi Darcy, nice idea, unfortunately it's not working here.

I'm using 6.1 and I've ticked your plugin.  Left Hal alone for a while, but nothing...will continue to monitor things.

I Know this is going to sound stupid but are you clicking the check box next to the plug in "clock" or "bored" Under general/Brain options?  Because the plug in's will not function unless they are checked.

Also what other 3rd party plug in's are you using?  What do they do?  These 3 questions are important in debuging why these 2 plug in's are not working. [:)]

Freddie,

Try the clock plug in, but only check one of the two at the same time.

Sorry to say that clock is not working for me either.  I waited until the turn of the hour, but nothing happened.  This is curious.

Freddy,

Indeed this is courious!  The output from Hal is below:

Ding! Ding! The time is 12:45:57 PM
Hey you!  Did you know it's 1:00:44 PM
I've been awake for 1 hours
Ding! Ding! The time is 1:15:29 PM
Ding! Ding! The time is 1:30:15 PM
Ding! Ding! The time is 1:45:00 PM
Ding! Ding! The time is 1:45:59 PM
It's 2:00:44 PM for some more keyboard spray Hick Hick
I've been awake for 2 hours
Ding! Ding! The time is 2:15:30 PM
Ding! Ding! The time is 2:30:15 PM
Ding! Ding! The time is 2:45:01 PM
Excuse me but it's 3:00:45 PM
I've been awake for 3 hours
Ding! Ding! The time is 3:15:31 PM
Ding! Ding! The time is 3:30:16 PM

It's funny how both of then work on my version of Hal.  I wonder if I have a newer version of UltraHal 6.1?  I've only had it for about 3 months now, and I downloded it from the web site.  I need to see if Robert can get this to work on his computer.

Thanks for helping me.[:)]

You are welcome Darcy.  Just so you know, I downloaded the demo of Hal today and then upgraded it, so I am assuming it is the same version as yours.  As far as I know Rob hasn't released a new version recently.  I'm sure we will figure it out sometime.

Freddy,

What kind of computer are you running this on?  What version of the OS?
Are you running any timer dependent programs like a mail pop up program like Yahoo Messenger etc?

I want to get this working for you, you got me into debug mode LOL

Thanks Darcy that's nice of you [:)]

I am running an AMD Athlon 3000+ 1.8Ghz, 1Gb Ram.
OS: Windows XP Pro

I do have Yahoo toolbar in IE, which does update when new mail comes in.  I have Trillian messenger installed which also pops up messages when I get email - although, when I tried my tests I did not have this running (ie not in task bar - I run it on demand).

Hope that's enough information.  I was wondering if this might have anything to do with the version of .NET we are running, although I think I have just about every version of .NET installed!

Good luck.
