And make sure you keep the definition files for all spyware and virus programs updated.

Another good tip is to run spyware and virus tools in SafeMode.  This eliminates any conflict issue with spyware being lauched by an active dll.

Speech Technology / Start Speech from cursor position?

I like this idea as well.

A little Star Trek humor. [:p]

anyway, I examined a couple files in the default brain folder and noticed that some of the brn files only held a couple sentences.  can these be merged together in one file, or will that confuse HAL? I wasn't sure if this fell under the "Merging Brains" category of which I saw a couple posts.

Thanks.

General Discussion / ULTRA Lazy Home 5.0!

There is also another program called HAL, which stands for Home Automated Living.  This person has a pretty good website about its functions, and how he has it setup

Ultra Hal 7.0 / ER1 Robot
« on: February 05, 2005, 11:39:54 am »
You should speak with bill819, as he also has an ER1.  Do a search for er1 and you can see his post.

Not sure what you are wanting HAL to do though.  The Robot control module will do most of the work.  There is a pretty good forum to help you with ER1: //www.evolution.com/forum/

If you could elaborate more on what you are wanting HAL to do, then these smart people could help you out. [:D]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal doesn't seem to learn much.
« on: February 04, 2005, 10:07:11 am »
Thanks Art, that is very helpful.

Does it help HAL, if I use quotes to enclose multiple words

example
HAL: whats your favorite food?
ME:  I like "Chicken wings"

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal doesn't seem to learn much.
« on: February 03, 2005, 09:47:04 am »
ART, thanks for that info.  It is exactly like talking to a "very intelligent" 3 year old.  You try to talk to them about a subject, then they see a butterfly or something distracting them, and change the subject entirely. [:)]

I think it would be very helpful to have a sticky added, which has the "basics of talking to HAL".  Its helpful to know how to word your statements to HAL, or which phrases improve better converstation.  I remember seeing a good article here a couple months ago with the basics of talking to hal, but I'm having trouble finding it atm.

Thanks

Ron.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Reminders
« on: February 02, 2005, 01:42:56 pm »
HAL is ok with appointments, but I need a little more out of him to help me out.

I am basically looking for a bill reminder, and I know that there are a lot of products that can do this, but I wanted to see if HAL could do it.

I currently pay bills about 2 to 3 times a month, and for the reoccuring bills (i.e. Office Lease, phone) I would like HAL to remind me to pay them.

From what I can see, his appointment book is limited to its uses.

Simple example.

Ron: Hal, remind me to pay the rent every 15th of the month.
HAL: Ok, I will remind you.

Ron: HAL, the phone bill is due every 1st of the month, remind me.
HAL: OK, I will remind you.

I don't have a secretary, so I thought HAL would help out here.  Just make sure he doesn't touch the checkbook. [;)]

Do they still sell microphones with the on/off button :)

That would seem to make things easier. [8D]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Creating Skins
« on: January 28, 2005, 03:57:17 pm »
This has nothing to do with HAL so it probalby should be on the SKINS board, if one exists [8]

Can you fill me in on the basics of skin creation.  I assume its just taking basic JPG's and layering or animating them.  Is there any software that can help out a non-programmer?

Thank you.

I'm still learning what HAL can do, and am just running the basics with the xtf brain.  My question may not be possible at this time, but everyday I see something new on this board, that I didn't think was possible.

Here is a sample of what I'm looking for:

Me: Hal, where's the closest auto shop in Dayton?
HAL: Let me check the internet Yellow pages.
[10 seconds later]
HAL: The closest auto shop is Joe's Garage on 222 Main Street.

Me: Hal, how is NASDAQ doing today.
HAL: NASDAQ is down 10 points today.

These sound like simple questions, but would involve HAL going out to the web doing the research himself, and then coming back with a response.

Am I asking this question too early, or is this something feasible with HAL today [?]

We always say that HAL is like a child developing.  I guess I’m one of those bad parents who keep asking for more. [:o)]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal and ER1
« on: January 06, 2005, 09:54:07 am »
This looks great,  I have been wanting to do something like this for a long time, but funding has been tight.

I am interested in knowing how HAL and ER1 are getting along, are there any conflicts between the HAL and ER1, especially with the Robot Control Software.  Do you have HAL scripted to use RCC?

Are you using the stock wheels that came with the ER1 package?

I'll probably have a dozen questions for you ;)

You JPG makes it look more ominous (sp?) than 42" [8)]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / New here and questions
« on: December 28, 2004, 09:13:03 am »
In regards to your car project, here is a neat website that may help.
http://www.dashpc.com/

They are using Linux in their project, but there is some good information (i.e. hardware, cameras, etc.), as well as pictures, that may help you realize your goal.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Ultra Hal for Linux????
« on: July 26, 2004, 01:40:21 pm »
I thought it came with most distro's, but I believe it stands for Windows Emulator.  I haven't used it so I'm not sure of its 100% compatibility that they claim.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / garbage characters
« on: July 09, 2004, 10:34:42 am »
I understand that it takes time to work with HAL, but it appears to be some programatical (sp?) error.  Next time I talk to hal, I will download our conversation.  Below is an example from memory

I would say something to him (i.e. whats my fathers name?)
He would response - Your fathers name is john.

Then the editor window, where I can optionally type would be populated with nonsense - long long long long long home

Hal would responsd - yes its a long long haul (something like that).

I didnt type in words or neither did I talk.  I am using the extented brain that I found in the downloadable error.  I guess I can try starting over. Thanks
