The plugin does nothing.  I was able to check the box and add the option into the 6.1 brain but I saw no difference.

Does anyone know how to implement the <MICON>, or <MICOFF> commands that Robert talks about in "what's new with 6.1"

I was trying to use the normal desktop speakers and desktop mic to talk to HAL.  I thought the new 6.1 would turn off the mic when HAL is speaking.  I did not see that happening.  HAL is hearing his own voice and responding to it.

It would be really be very usable with a desktop without a headset if it would work as advertized.

My voice recognition works well with a simple desktop mic.

Thanks for any help. The new version is much more complex and interesting.

Hunter

I am very much interested in how well the wireless mic works for you.

If you are successful please let me know what wireless mic you used.

I am working on an idea to use a phone interface with hal...I want to
pick up the phone and the program detect off hook and have hal listen in after
I hit a number on the phone.  ALso I want him to answer thru the phone.  The perfect way to go wireless in your house.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal Assistant Upgrade problems
« on: September 04, 2002, 09:40:03 pm »
I received the CD update from zabaware and installed it.
I had problems installing it over 4.0 and uninstalled both and started clean.
That would work well.
The only problems that I have seen may be computer related ie speed and memory but I will explain.
1) When I use the MSagents like Merlin I will get a MSagent loading error when starting from the taskbar icon.  I just hit OK and he works fine.

2) When I try to use the speech recognition whether microsoft or IBM Viavoice 5.0, a page fault occurs in Halasst.exe after a few conversation exchanges.

3) on the good side the changes for the speech recognition work alot better and more consistant only when you use the microsoft recognizer.  I noticed that when using the MSagents the characters speech will be heard at the microphone and when using the standard characters like Mary the microphone does not respond to the character's speech.  What's up with that!

4) I am using only a mic built into the monitor which I understand is not optimal....but I dislike being tied to a wire.

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same experiences with the new upgrade.

ALL in all it is much cleaner and the brain is much more conversational than even the enchanced 216 brain.  THe speed is also just as good. V recognition is also much improved. I could get 90% accuracy even with the monitor mic.

Did anyone hear about the MIT prof that created a 3D talking bot from a snapshot or video clip?

He has the ability to model anyone and create a video clip with voice that is interactive!

The Big Brains are worried about creating fraudulent video clips of people!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / HAL is talking to himself

Its curious that you ask.  I definitely get better accuracy with the Word Dictation setup that IBM has compared to using the same desktop mic with version 4.0.

The accuracy on the IBM word setup is better than 90 %...I would say.

9 words out of 10 are correctly recognized.

Thanks for your response.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Error When Opening Hal
« on: April 03, 2002, 07:31:46 pm »
Yes it is version 4.0.

ramz is correct...it does occur regardless of the recognition being selected.

I am using the IBM Viavoice 5.0.

I am using the default brain setup with the Genie character.

I have a Hewlett Packard 466 Celeron with 96mbyte ram.

Thanks for your response.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Using a telephone as I/O for HAL
« on: March 20, 2002, 10:22:06 pm »
Has anyone tried to use HAL thru your telephone instead of a speaker/microphone?

There are home control programs that use the telephone to issue instructions to the control program.  You key in a # and it wakes up your modem and listens thru the line input setup.

I think that would be a perfect way to detact you from the headset microphone and use Hal all around the house.

Any ideas?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Speech Recognition - Different words come up
« on: March 18, 2002, 11:28:47 pm »
I am using IBM Viavoice 98 v5.0 with HAL and getting the same gibberish on version 4.0.

When I use the Viavoice to dictate to Word it works better than 95% of the time.

Not so with Hal....what's up with that!

I believe that the microphone setup changes somehow!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Changing Users
« on: March 18, 2002, 11:23:31 pm »
It would be awesome if HAL could recognize the users voice and automatically change the setup to that new user.

Any ideas?

Another thing if HAl could startup his screen when he hears his name ....is that possible?

When you change to another user manually it doesnt change the voice recognition user.    I am using IBM Viavoice 98  5.0

Also is there a way to turn off the microphone temporarily when HAL is speaking? I know that a headset mic is a solution, but I would like to use the standard desktop mic that happens to pickup HALs voice as well as mine.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Error When Opening Hal

Is anyone getting an error "-2147417843-9 outgoing call cannot be made since application is dispatching an input-synchronous call" when you click on Hal button in the toolbar or exit the program?
