This is my first attempt at changing hair color. It's a little blocky, hopefully i can learn to do better.

The head is based on an image of the late movie actress Carole Lombard, although i don't think it really looks like her. Still i'm naming her Carole.

It would be great if markofkane answered you. He made cool things for changing hair color. Maybe you could find them with the search engine.

I think i found the 2007 post by markofkane, but the www.savefile.com link to the files doesn't work. Seems they are currently down. I'll keep looking. I think there is a way to change the "hairbob" wig. I'll explore that also.

I have two plugins for PaintShopPro that generates hair in an unlimited variety of colors and textures. Here is just one example.

And here is Kimberly wearing this hair texture on the hair5_9EXP. It's still too blocky, i don't suppose there is any way around the blockiness, right?

I don't have hairbob.htr and couldn't find it, does it work better?

davy i have to compliment you on what you are acheiving with different technics can you make a more red hair than the last with the blondish highlights . the red hair (longer ) in the people putty looks like a party hair . can you do a red head in the long hair that has the wave on top (hair bob ?) the original is a brunette and a blond color i think those would look good changed .
can you post the file you redid so others can change the hair color for their haptecks (hals )?
thanks

Hey Davy, I don't think you will be able to make the hair less blocky unless you have some Haptek tools.
I think you will find this a little better.

Thanks lightspeed. But i don't believe i'm doing anything new or original. I using a technique from an old post by Freddy.

I'm not sure what you mean by "long hair that has the wave on top", but i can generate any shade of red hair texture. I have the texture i captured in the hap_temp folder from Hair6_DeepRed, so i'll show it here as an example, it does look better than my generated textures. The hap file i used to change the hair color is this ...

#Haptek  Version= 1.00 Name= Hair6_DeepRed  HapType= script FileType= text
##standard

settexture [figure=hair5_9EXP tex= data/standard/skins/Hair6_DeepRed.jpg]]

Of course, your model must be wearing hair5_9EXP.

You're right Nige, that does look better. How did you do that? Which Haptek tools are required?

If I remember correctly the technique works better on some hair models than others - on some it would come out blocky and others, like the bob hair it worked fine.

I think it has a lot to do with the alpha channels and maps - the alpha channel is what creates the see-through effect, giving the appearance of strands.  Why this works in some models and not others I am not sure.  As far as I know the alpha channel is separate to the main hair texture.

I'm a newbie and don't know what you mean by "bob hair". People Putty doesn't have a "bob hair" and i searched for a bob hair.htr file without success. Can you enlighten me?

Thanks
