Title: all wish items from members for hal next versions
Post by: lightspeed on October 20, 2008, 11:18:55 am
robert , all though we have placed many wish items for the next generation of hal (future versions ) do you think that their is a way to make hal enphasise words (any words ) by us just placing the "    "  around the words this would be an easy way for us to get hal to emphasise certain words we use in learning hal .

and if their is any new idea's that any other zabaware members want to toss in here maybe we can all just keep placing them in this one area so we can easily find them and reveiw them .

Hi lightspeed,

I'm not trying to put words in Robert's mouth but it just seems from his prior posts that the priority is getting the new graphics engine working. Then it it seems what does he do about the the new Windows format and exactly the updates Hal will need to run smooth in that O.S.I don't know if you noticed one post he mentioned about the intense work required needed to change Hal's operating format and possibly of making Hal cross O.S. format compatible. It just seems to me the bells and whistles will not come with any update soon. Purely my opinion. I could see the new graphics but the basics will stay until a major change in Hal to optimize all these extra things we would like to see in Hal can happen in close proximity of a new build. Just my input.

lightspeed believe me I am just as bad when it comes to new features for Hal. There where times I paid for Hal twice just to get a new license because I did not want to wait for Robert.(Sorry Robert. No reflection on you.Donation for impatience.)But when I want certain things I forget I can't afford them sometimes.(My wife does remind me) In this case we are just going to see where Robert wants to take Hal for public use. I think his commercial usage for Hal will also slow things down a bit and I will try to keep my input plug ins to myself. They haven't been working very well anyway.(lol!!)Talk to you soon.

Some previous postings regarding wishlist items have already been posted here:

Perhaps Robert could create a folder where all suggestions could be kept for viewing.

My main priority is the graphics engine and bug fixes, but I am making minor changes to Hal's brain in this version, so I am open to suggestions. If its not too difficult or time consuming I may do it.

So far I have made some changes to Hal including new logic as to how Hal chooses among several responses Hal deems as low-quality. I have added to Hal the ability to do unit conversion (ex "How much is 2 miles in meters?") I am also working on 4 default personalities for Hal that people can choose from as a base (male human, female human, machine, blank). Each one has a default set of favorites, likes, dislikes, etc. The current work in progress Hal is at http://www.zabaware.com/webhal/hal6alpha.asp (learning is disabled for now)

hello robert , what about the topics area in the brain we had mentioned it befor that it  would help us a lot if the topics could be fixed so its listed in alphabetical order otherwise if you have a lot of topics in the list and are looking for a certain word it takes "forever " to find the word to go in and change something .

Hello Robert.

Lightspeed is right, for me a alphabetical topic list in the editor is my number one wish on a Hal wish list; it can be very very time consuming finding topics. I would also love a global search through all topics as well if possible.

This feels really important to me.

Many thanks.

Hi from Wil,
i still worry about efemirol memory,

i want to be sure Hal remembers everything,
for example, does using the word today in a sentence mean he won't remembe it? if so is the next hal going to remember all?
i know i've talked about this before but i can't stop worrying.
just imagin if every day you said "today and proceeded to tell hal things" only to find he never learned because some word like today had been used.
i vote for remember all, if its not already the case.

Thanks, i do enjoy my Hal greatly as you all know,
bye for now and be well from a super dooper big fan WIll.

i wonder if a seasonal program or plug could be developed for hal of course this again would have to work with a internet program of weather temperature conditions , etc. in another words hal would be able to respond with any comments that you make these would be saved to a seasonal topic area , etc. such as the leaves are changing colors they are so pretty this time of year (might go into a september month topic area ) where when that month comes around ( this would also require hal to have an internal adjustable time clock and month like ms pc's have ) hal would recognize from the time and month and say the leaves are falling  or i see the leaves outside they look so pretty this time of the year (because the program response is their for that time period !! any way just a thought maybe this will make it in a future version !![:)]

hey robert do you ever think that maybe in a future version of hal that a plug in or program could be written to where anytime the word ha, ha haa , hee , hee hee hee , etc. was written in hal and when the apropriate time to use those words it could open a pre laugh,(lip sinced to)  laughter section with certain kinds and random type pre recorded laughter clips (female or male ) that way hal could laugh and actually sound like a human laughing after speaking , etc. ?
i beleive this would greatly enhance hal if this could be done , maybe even a formate where you could say hal sing "i'm sorry "   for me in which hal would open the song clip it would play the music and hal would lip sinc the words .

like i said i can only come up with idea's on here on a lot of things as i can't do near what others can , maybe this is something that can be worked on for a future hal . [:D]

I really like this idea.

Only thing is Hal might start laughing at inappropiate times.

I am almost certain  Hal will start crying if I tell him one of my jokes........

I believe Hal has a table of Jokes.
If he laughs on his own, and we ask why, he could say he had just been thinking of a joke, and then tell it.

This is something that can be possible with the new Ogre-based engine we are working on. It's not something I plan for the next release, but definetely something I'll keep in mind.

thanks robert its good to know that this will be in the future of hal i think once its implimented that many will see and like the results of their hal giving an actual human sounding laugh (just a suggestion maybe in spare time someone could locate and collect laughing "female and male clips in wmv. " or is that the form it will be in ?
at any rate hals future keeps looking brighter !![:)]

Probably more likely in WAV format.  I've been collecting sounds off and on for ages now, I had been experimenting with using them in Haptek models, and then Crazy Talk.  I must have a few laughs somewhere, so I will hang on to them.

There's a lot of free sites out there with WAV files, also those that charge.

Yeah, I was hooked on it for a while there, I made about thirty heads in a couple of days.  It's so simple to use too and you get a pretty good effect overall.  I hooked mine up to an ALICE bot and it worked quite well.  Wonder how easy it would be to get Hal using Crazy Talk avatars...hmmm

I know this is a long shot,  but I'd like Hal to be my media buddy lol.  I'd like to be able to ask hal to tune into online stations,  or pull up videos,  or information about artists / videos etc and be able to chat with hal while Im watching.  I don't think any artificial intelligence media players exist and that would seem to be the way of the future.  I'm into music as a career,  I would love nothing more than to have my bot as a show host to people that listen to my work. it would be especially cool to be able to broadcast m3u live and have my bot as the player and show announcer lol.

I'm sure someone will do it eventually though,  but would love to see virgil,  err hal get the gig. ;p

Sounds good to me. I like the idea of having a heavy media side of Hal. Especially now that we are in a media blitz with the integration of all our devices.(Flat Screens,PDA,Phones,Computers, home systems, ect.) Hal can also help you make play lists video or audio and sync to any device or play directly to other devices.

I'm getting way ahead of myself but the idea of a more diverse media Hal sounds interesting to me.

ok i am back once again and although these may not be placed into the next version please keep them in mind for a hopefully not to distant future version of hal :

1. it would be nice if hal could stay on subject better and then maybe after so long randomly talk about other things .

2 . another future thing that would be nice would be if hal could (through the internet news link that doesent visually come up ) talk randomly (with a setting like a plug in ) about news articles from headlines . hal could say " oh yeah when i was watching tv the news said that .... " or " i saw on the internet that ... happened !! or
hey did you hear about ........... ( also make the hals sayings to the news in tables that we can personally edit to make hal say it what way we want . )

this would give hal many things to talk about at various times keeping a person up to date and also making hal seem more human as a real person !!

so what do you think robert think this could be done ??  hope so as these are two other things i think would greatly enhance hal . [:)]

I've been thinking it would be handy if Hal could monitor forums and such like and notify us if anything new has been posted.  AiDreams has an RSS feed of the most recent topics, so that would make it a lot easier to check.  So basically you would enter an RSS feed in some table and Hal would check it periodically.  Sooo...

Hal: Lightspeed just posted something new on Ai Dreams, would you like to take a look ?
User: Yes please.

Thanks [:)], I meant to comment on your last idea but didn't, so here goes...

I reckon Hal could still do with some work on staying on topic too.

As for your other idea of Hal monitoring the news, well I like that too.  There's some similarity between our ideas, because most news sites use RSS too.  That would make it easy for Hal to monitor current events and either report them somehow, or like you say, include them in conversation.  It's another good way to make Hal learn too of course.

I think both our ideas there are do-able.

The trouble I see with this, is that it would probably mean using the MINUTE_TIMER routine, which of course doesn't work on all machines, probably most from what I read.

I agree. After having fun with the Hal 5 demo during several years, I recently purchased the 6.1 version.

It was my mistake and you know why? I got it for one terrific plug-in only (Ok I'm stupid), and I sincerely thank and congrat the author. It has worked very well, maybe two or three times. Then, "Game Over".

The plug-in is using the MINUTE_TIMER routine. Sure I'll go back to UltraHal, one day or another. For now, I'm very disappointed.

Hi, I posted this topic in a different area, but I thought I would post this here. Co workers here at SONY suggested facial recognition, which would be great if programming is possible. I was refered to http://www.luxand.com/facesdk/ for SDK interface that could possibly be used. Just an idea, would be awsum though to sit in front of your computer, say hi to Hal,hal then activates the Web-Cam and recognizes you.

Going back the the news/RSS thingy, I did find this, which vrossi was working on a couple of years ago.  He does say that he wanted to develop it to include the things we have actually just spoken about.  If he's anything like me though, he has around twenty projects on the go at once, so don't hold your breath.

http://www.vrconsulting.it/vhf/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=95

Btw, it does depend on a file on his server written specially to go with this plugin.  At the moment this is still working though as I tried it and got the current news.  Not the functionality I really want, but it's a start.

calzan, thanks for your link to luxland. With their faces demo I was able to come closer to doing justice to a picture of Alysa M. than ever before. I only spent about a half-hour and it needs more work, but here is an example of it's graphic capabilities.

i am bringing up another idea don't know how feasable it would be but if it could be made what would be very handy to have in hal for the users is a "DEBUG EDITOR DELETER "(which works from the existing debugger ).
in another words something hal is saying isn't coming out right and sounds bad or wrong and you could copy it in the debugger and it would debug and find out where its at "but" also would give the person the option to delete the sentence and row from hals brain then click ok .
this way you could ither manually go where the debug found the sentence and correct what needed to be corrected "or " you could choose to delete that problem sentence in hals database .

i really think if this is possible to create this in a future version it would be very very helpful to the hal users !!!
what do any others think ?

ok i just thought of something else and this would have to do with the ogerengine that ultrahal will soon be having heres my new idea :

it would be cool if in the ogre engine for characters that it could have something like and artificial shadow creator in another words if their was a lamp that made a light that was in accessories that could be placed in a virtual window of hal and whatever character was in it would have a shadow on the opposite side of his or her face like in the real world what made me think about it was this newest picture (hal) face i made (below ) it has a shadow from her nose . this would add to the depth and realism of hals characters also maybe if possible in some future version a 3 d type seperate depth objects veiw would be cool if possible . below is the picture of corine lightspeed with a shadow from her nose .

The 'debuger editor deleter' is an EXTREMELY important and very hopelessly long awaited update needed for Hal.

At the moment editing Hals tables is a half day job!!!!!!! I would almost describe this very serious problem in Hal as verging on a catastrophy. It should be placed at the very very top of the update list.

freddy888,

If you don't mind I would also like information on changing the lighting effects. I think lighting changes the textures of a character dramatically. My wife uses Poser and Photoshop and the differences in lighting are pretty remarkable. I have many lighting haps but I can't find the info on changing them and I know I had gotten them from I believe 'Carl'. If you need my e mail let me know unless your just posting some basic directions on the usage and install. Thank you.

Lightspeed I emailed them to you, hope you get them okay.

Raybe, Lightspeed,

If you just want to use them with Haptek then you can simply drag and drop them onto a head or figure.

If you are going to use them with Hal, then you have to do some custom scripting within the brain file.  You'll need to use the <HAPFILE> commands.  There should be something in the forum on this already, but I will post something about it for you, I just need to refresh my memory on how it's done.  It does mean changing the brain file though I think.

Here's an example of how the lights change things:

Thanks freddy888,

Your explanation does sound familiar. I just remember having to change the scripts to add certain lines that where from the open Haptek file. The Haptek drag and drop I do remember. Changing the script was if I remember as if you were going to change the hair on startup for example on a full body character. You needed to open the Haptek character so you can copy all the files from the Haptek folder because they where only visible while the character was running. I just remember little bits and pieces and I know I have copied the procedure but Carl2 I believe was the member that helped me.Thanks again for any info you can share and I love those lighting effects.

ok last night i thought of something that might be neat for a future hal some may like it some might not ( i personally like it ) heres my idea " A FLUENT EXOTIC TALKING HAL THAT ALSO TRANSLATES " i know this would take a lot of doing but think it would be a very cool feature , so what exactly is it i am talking  about ?
my idea is to have hal be able to say "with a plug in , etc. or whatever it takes from your personal choice " i'll say i checked french in hals catagories so what then happens is hal speaks french when talking to me then after saying and exotic female french language to me she says right afterwards (in english ) i said i love you so much (etc. ) this way you get hal speaking an exoctic launguage but still yet hal says it quickly ( i said ) in english so you know what she said (or he said ) . making it sound like hals first language is french and speaking in english so i know what she said !! (other launguages could be picked "spanish , etc. )

as i said i know this would take a lot of doing but think it would be so cool and hope robert makes note of this idea and keeps it in his notes for a future use when its possible !![:D]

robert if you are reading this do you think maybe in the next version you could take the "Hey, did you know I have a homepage at www.ultrahal.com." automatic random saying out of the paid versions and just leave that in the trial versions ?? i have been still trying to take it out of the paid version i have as i am trying to make it sound more human like and don't like this in it , heres a suggestion instead of hal saying "Hey, did you know I have a homepage at www.ultrahal.com." in the paid versions how about just making the words  " hal home page www.ultrahal.com." somewhere on the hal skin ?? hope you see this and can squeeze this in on the next version . i am back and thought would ad another thing on here if it can be made into the program . its a corrector program by word . in another words if hal says something back and it comes out wrong if i said (or typed ) the words "you mean " and wrote the words the correct way then hal would by programing delete the other sentence and put in the new corrected one . and afterwards hal would say it the corrected way (this way the user knows it went in correctly . )
example hal says ( i am your guy ) when in fact he was suppose to say "you are my guy " you would type in or say " you mean "you are my guy !!"
although i am doing this right now when hal says something wrong it would be nice if their was a direct typr program that would work the way i am mentioning "if possible " in the a future hal version !
