is old school. It's not a story, it's a poem published in 1845. I'm sure they don't teach it anymore, too may references to God and Heaven.
So no, I'm not kidding. Anyone with a classical education might say that as a literary allusion to express a sense of inevitablity. Certainly it can be passed down without attributation, so that a child of someone with a classical education might say it without understanding, but it is unlikely that it came from anywhere else.
For that to happen would be like saying that "Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise" came from your Uncle Bob instead of Ben Franklin.
