Haptek - Putty Problem
« on: July 16, 2007, 09:19:53 pm »
I need to know if anyone else here besides myself and JackGephart
are having trouble with their PeoplePutty installations or license
activations for it? [?] Please let us know, it would really be
appreciated. I think that haptek may be trying to shutdown some
of us who make and give away character heads. [:0] Thanks.

Markofkane, ~aladyblond, nige, caangel, tedathome and
whoever else is making heads for UltraHal users.

They have already disabled mine and Jack's Putty installations
and deactivated the programs on our computers, and are not
allowing reactivation.

Well, I just checked out the EULA on the haptek site. They've
made some minor changes again. It seems that none of those who
use PP to make character heads are permitted to distribute them
under any condition. All heads that we make are the sole copy-
righted property of haptek and we are given no rights as to the
issue of intellectual or creative property.

Robert,  Did haptek notify you of any changes that might effect
those of us here at zaba forum who make and trade our haptek heads
for use in Hal?

I hope Robert realizes that this could have an effect on the
number of poeple who will be willing to upgrade their Hal's
when he release's the next version. There are quite a few Hal
user's who not only use the haptek heads, but also collect them.
I'm just pointing out a fact here as to how losing the ability
to make and trade our own heads could possibly affect zabaware,
and I am in no way saying that Hal user's stop upgrading because
of this. I think that UltraHal is a great product and would use
it regardless, but the haptek characters do add to the fun and
uniqueness of Hal.

caangel,   I will be writing an email to haptek in the morning
to see what might be going on in regards to mine and Jack's
problem. I think you should wait a day before you go pulling
down your site, as it may just be Jack and myself that this
action has been taken against.

how about a suggestion , if you ever do get your hapteck people putty working again what about exchanges through e-mail only without posting or on a website  or anyone receiving not posting them ?? if hapteck has pulled your license i think that was a dirty thing to do as i think they should have warned you first with a written letter , etc. and if thats the case hapteck has lost a sale from me as i was planning on buying it later but won't now , why should i bother to buy their product maybe a notice should go up here stating that you wont be able to share things you made after you paid for the hapteck software in another words as i said why waste your money and buy it .

well i'm back and maybe letting off some steam , i think if haptek did pull others licences for creating heads and sharing them that was stupid because after seeing other people who bought their software be able to create such neat heads and share them and to be able to see them thats why i wanted to buy hapteck to be able to create and share them , this may very well be haptecks loss as much as it is others when word gets around that no one after paying for it can share the artwork of it and creativity if haptek thinks others will be more apt to buy it the old way i think they will be sadly mistaken . i know i won't be buying it now . and its a shame if gamerthom and jack and others who thought enough of their product can't now even use it . if thats the case how many want to support hapteck now and buy their product ? as i said if this is the case "not me " .

Lightspeed, I'd say that this thread has already taken care
of that. I just hope that the other people putty user's on
here see and read this so that they'll know that there may
be some problems ahead for the rest of the member's here who
use haptek's software or were considering getting it.

Well anyhow. I just sent an email off to the VP of haptek
with a few questions to find out what is going on in regards
to what, if anything other PeoplePutty users need to be concerned
about having their programs deactivated or being denied reactivation
since many of the members here at zaba forum either already have
PeoplePutty or were thinking of buying it so they can make and
trade head haptars for use in Hal. If or as soon as I get a response
from him, I'll let you know by posting about it here.

I never created any heads with people putty. I just use the trial version to make  OGG files. It never expires. (Thanks to Disk revert)

I was considering buying it, but not anymore.

However, I take the fullbody skins made by others and make alterations to them.

There is always savefile and anonymous uploads. [;)]

Hi
I too was thinking about buying People putty after seeing all the great heads others had produced and think that Haptek is making a bad move if this happens.
Surely they must realize that the more people that put heads on their sites means more free advertising for them and more sales of their product.
I would not have known about People putty if i had not purchased Hal so they should be grateful that people here promote their software.
I did want to ask before buying People putty how their registration worked as all it says on their site is that you need a internet connection, i assumed they send you a serial number or something by email but it sounds like this is not the case.
Does the software only last for so long after registering ? and how do they manage to deactivate the program.
I must admit i am now thinking twice about buying it and may just stick with the heads i have but i hope they see the light and realize their mistake.

Presumably if the heads were made before the changes to the EULA then those ones can still be freely distributed.

I don't think it's a good move to try and close down the few sources of new and original creations.  Most similar businesses (like DAZ, Poser etc) benefit from freely available creations, it helps to give the commercial products more exposure.

Any and all changes to haptek's EULA are done to retroactively cover
all previous release's of the product and any content created with it.
They have that as a clause in the non-commercial and commercial EULA's.
