New forum test
« on: April 17, 2010, 09:12:21 pm »
I want to migrate this forum to a more modern forum system that can do things like private messages and problem free uploads. I tried several forum packages but it seems a forum called SMF has the best migration path from Snitz (the software that currently runs this forum)

As a test I migrated all the posts on this forum to the new system along with all the members and put it up here: http://www.zabaware.com/community/index.php

Please play around with it and let me know if everything seems to work and your thoughts on the system. All your login info should have migrated over along with 10 years of posts. This is only a test, please continue using the current old forum for real posts for the time being. When the time comes I'll resync the posts to the new forum and then shut this one down.

I've already noticed a problem where old attachments and some URL links aren't linking properly due to a difference in how the URL tag works in both forums (Snitz uses URLS in double quotes, SMF uses nothing) but let me know if you see other issues.

I like it [8D] It seemed to work good, and has good profile features.
I'm not to crazy on the icons for "normal topics, hot topics, very hot topics, etc." but could live with them.
Did not see a way to get to Zabawares home page, you probaly knew that though, seeing it is only a test.

will check it out some more tomorrow, and post if I find any problems

will the issue with attachments and url's links be fixed, or will we have to re-post them on the new forum?

We've been using SMF for nearly five years at Aidreams and I love it.  So it gets the thumbs up from me [8D]

I have designed themes in the past : here's one I made last year :

http://www.guildwars2nexus.com/

The site is not live yet though.  I also know another theme designer who has a lot of experience (hundreds) so if you want to customise it just let me know.

Hi Robert,
I like the clean look and that it has a brief description about the last post on each of the main threads. I am assuming that this will eventually replace the old forum and have all the included information for sales, operation of program, updates and products as well.

Sorry Robert about double post but I was trying to respond directly to the questions you asked and re-entered the same post. Yes the new forum seems to work fine and all the information that I am familiar with seems to be there and much easier on the eyes. My opinion is that the logout button should stand out a bit more. Love the login welcome title.

hello robert, thats a nice clean look to the new forum, i know this probably is just in the wording and their is excemtions but i noticed this in the standard type agreement.

You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, adult material, or otherwise in violation of any International or United States Federal law.

I think we all know some of our postings are sexy looking !( wink!)
