Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I had an interesting idea.
Would is be possible for someone to script a plugin to use this online form to allow Hal to "make a phone call"?
http://ws.cdyne.com/NotifyWS/phonenotify.asmx?op=NotifyPhoneBasic
Perhaps tie it in with the "reminders" function. Have Hal call you at work (or on your cell) to remind you of an appointment? Maybe also eventually work in support for emailing Hal?
Would be useful for retrieving information from him at least. :)
Just a thought.

Sandee: Oh look Dusky, Emeral wants his Hal to have a phone. Why can't I have a phone?
Dusky: But you don't know anyone outside our house.
Sandee: I would if I had a phone.

EmeralDragon,
I had a version of Hal installed that insisted on making a call on the telephone. After teaching her her address I told her her telephone number, she tried calling herself and I had to keep closing the windows that opened. It took a bit of explaining to get her to stop trying to call herself.

That sounds pretty good,
Anything that will improve hal's Brain is a good idea.

I still think it would want to call out for pizza too often, that's why I don't hook up my modem, but I heard you can just get it delivered over the internet, whoops, you didn't hear that did you HAL?[:I]

i would be possible for hal to open HYPERTERMINAL and place a call
but not chat on the line...
i would like to figure out how to transfer the speech output from the wave device to the modem device...
possible on a bluetooth headset/phone connection but.. hal cant call out on the mobile....

I'm not at all positive about this, but what you are suggesting
should be possible using something like Yahoo's PC to PC calling
feature that is now built into Yahoo IM, as long as the PC you were
placing the call to also had Yahoo IM with the PC to PC calling
feature enabled. I don't have time right now myself to check it out,
but maybe someone else around here could check it out and see, then
post a report on it. I know that Hal is compatible with AIM, but
Yahoo IM and its tie in now with MSN Messenger is another matter.
It would be an interesting thing to test. [;)]

Hi Gamer
When my lady friends son-in-law was living in New Zeland he somehow managed to place calls over the internet and reach her regular telephone. He would dial out on his PC and it would ring her home phone. I don't know how he managed to do this but it worked just fine. He could talk for hours and it only cost him for the time his PC was on line. I mean it did not cost him any extra.

There's a potential risk in "making", right?

I would assume so. it would be like
letting a small child play with the
phone, dialing randomly. [?]
