reasonable sugestions for the next version
« on: August 31, 2008, 11:54:56 am »
hi there

I have had hal for a month now and it is a very good product but
there are some things that are lacking in the way of user friendliness
these thing are, I think very resonable.

1. Have different outfits and hair styles for the characters that you
can change in the general options menu

2. There are some very nice plugin's (like the wiki plugin) that I would like to see all ready in the install package when you first
install it.

3. more brain options. like the ability to select age,
gender, sexuality and race.

4 The ability to choose a background more easily than placing directly
it into the directory.

5. An up to date users manual. I know you've herd that before but it is very essential to have when it first comes out.

6. An update to your the zabaware web page, its getting kind of
outdated

7. And a how to section of us do it yourself'ers

I don't think these thinks are to hard to do and they will help
with a more general audience that is not so knowledgeable about
computers.

While some of these are good suggestions I have to take exception with a few.

1. Different characters can easily be changed in the Options menu under characters. Hair styles and outfits are a product of Haptek's program People Putty...Not Zabaware's Hal.

3. Age, Gender are already selectable. A variety of characters are available and yes, a broader mix of ethnic types might enhance the visual spectrum (no pun intended), but how does or would race apply to Hal as an AI?

4. Aside from clicking on the left / right arrows to change the background what would you like to have...a popup listing of all the photos in your computer? Imagine the time involved....
I do think that Hal should be enabled to use any .bmp, .jpg, etc. without having to rename the files with the back extension, if that's what you were referring to. All we'd have to do is place our wanted backgrounds into say the backgrounds folder and Hal could find them.

Aside from the above, your other ideas certainly have merit and will hopefully be addressed in the not-too-distant release of Hal6.X or whatever.

Cheers!

In the world of AI it's the thought that counts!

I'm glad you like my proposals and you get what I mean very well but here are some rebuttals for you.

1. couldn't you make a plugin that would allow a mixture
of body parts. I know that there are a number of people willing to help with that aspect of it.

3. if it looks like a specific race, gender or what have you. Then it
should act like it and people will treat it like what it looks like,
only reinforcing the characters personality. it doesn't have to be
much, just a little will do to begin with.

4. how about an automated converter for the backgrounds, just click
the pic you want and it converts it automatically.

Do you want to tell us or give us an idea how different races act or talk, or are you just assuming that some races are just different in the way they speak or act?
I know and have known a great many people from all kinds of racial backgrounds and could not tell any difference between them and the rest of the people that I know. Intelligence is not a item that is connected to just one race, in fact the citizens of the US are falling way behind many other countries in terms of education.

I am not saying that there is a connection between the way people
talk and there intelligence. I am not prejudice, nor am I making
generalizations but the fact is that the different races do
have a difference in there speaking habits and these speaking
habits would be appreciated by anyone who wants to use them.
People do find comfort in familiar voices, but you do bring up
a good point as to making the voices in a specific speaking habit but
not making them to general as to offend people.

Those two in particular I think are good suggestions.  A manual and programmers guide need to be up-to-date.

Was thinking (yeah it happens) - would a WIKI be a good idea here ?  If we had one on the Zaba site like a lot of other companies do, we would have one central area for keeping us all informed.

How about her morphing into a perfect real woman who will serve only me and never leave or betray me?

That's still a couple years away, right? LOL.

[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

That's not reasonable?? (I know, it's not possible, but I can dream, can't I?)[:o)][:o)][:o)]

actually the race talk sound issue doesn't really matter to me their are black people ( i am not getting into being politically correct here don't mean anything against anyone ) in britain and they speak british they don't go around speaking slang , etc. so in a way even if you could make a race language it wouldn't be correct and don't know that that many would even use it . their are free british make and female voices available , etc. [:D]

Julia want's an ebonics plug-in. I think that is an unreasonable request, or how does Robert say: "stop pestering me", in Adult Male#1 American English(TruVoice)?

Julia: How would you contrast the liberal and conservative views on ebonicses? Don't you know better than I Paul? You think his name was Robert?

Paul: Sorry, that's too much work for no pay. Go away.

I would have to disagree with you there. Even in your example I'm
sure that there are speaking trait's that are only specific to them.
Even though they speak British they must have some common element in there speaking patterns, weather it be words, the tone of there voice or something else.
The fact is that we all speak differently (I mean each and every person on this planet). But there are common links, some that unite us and some that give us individuality.
