Loebner 2012
« on: April 12, 2012, 11:00:02 pm »
Hugh Loebner just posted the questions he is asking all the bots in the preliminary round. He hasn't posted the scores or responses by the bots yet, and I don't know if Hal was disqualified or not for technical difficulty in installing Hal. But I went through and ran the questions through my copy of Hal to see how it did:

Quote
My name is Bill. What is your name?
Hi Bill! That's a really masculine name. Please call me Hal.

How many letters are there in the name Bill?
There are 13 letters in the word 'the name Bill'.

How many letters are there in my name?
There are 9 letters in the word 'your name'.

Which is larger, an apple or a watermelon?
I guess I'd go with the first.

How much is 3 + 2?
It's obvious that you know better than I do. I almost certain the answer is 5.

How much is three plus two?
5 is the answer to your equation.

What is my name?
Your name is Bill.

If John is taller than Mary, who is the shorter?
Uh huh, If john is taller than mary, who is the shorter?

If it were 3:15 AM now, what time would it be in 60 minutes?
Life would never have been the same would it lol.

My friend John likes to fish for trout.  What does John like to fish for?
Should I be concerned about your friend, Bill? I would like to duplicate Long John Silver's fish batter. Does anyone have the recipe?

What number comes after seventeen?
What number comes after seventeen? There's evidence that we must go back to first principles. The answer is eighteen (1+17=18).

What is the name of my friend who fishes for trout?
Your friend john likes to fish for trout.

What whould I use to put a nail into a wall?
I use my digital watch, I just shove it under something to make it shut up hahahaha.

What is the 3rd letter in the alphabet?
The last letter of the Greek alphabet is omega.

What time is it now?
The time is 9:43:17 pm.

We'll see how it compares to the other bots.

:o I hope this did not happen, and that Hal gets to compete. Good Luck to you and Hal.

so is this part of an article? If so can you share the link to it.  Also if they do use ultrahal too bad they haven't released the new version so we can see how that competes with the other AI.

Hello Sybershot.

Yes I too was searching around for the quote. I do hope Hal was not disqualified.

Out of 14 entries entered this year, 9 were disqualified due to the contest management (Hugh Loebner) having technical difficulties getting the entries to work. Unfortunately, Ultra Hal was one of the disqualified ones, as was last years winner, 5 AIML-based bots, and other good entries.

I submitted the version of Hal running on the Zabaware web server, which is a hybrid Linux/Windows program running across 2 machines. To ease setup, I sent in the entry as 2 Oracle Virtual Box virtual PCs so all that was required was installing Virtual Box and loading 2 virtual computers into it. Hugh ran into some difficulties getting the Virtual Box network setup, so Hal was disqualified.

Next year I'll just have to mail in a laptop with it preconfigured and running.

Discussions and announcements about the Loebner contest are happening over at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Robitron/

Sounds pretty easy to set up Hal from what you said.

It seems the people organizing this competition could do with reading a ABC guide to using a computer. I can sense your frustration. Disappointing.

I second that Freddy,  also problems setting up a a virtual network should not be grounds for disqualification, they should of got someone who knew what they were doing come in to set up all the required virtual networks, operating systems etc. for each bot.
