Ultra Hal 7.0 / Two questions on Skins
« on: October 19, 2006, 07:21:56 pm »
First:
I saw a help file here that I think might have been on designing skins, but now I can't find it. Anyone know where it is?

Second:
Can I change the position or presence of the "Size" button that seems to be attached to the "SkinFace" parameters? I want to get it off the character area.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Self learning method?
« on: October 19, 2006, 03:22:10 pm »
So,
While idle, HAL reviews your conversation, does a statistical analysis of the previous conversation, makes a weighted list of topics, searches the internet for the best sentences she can find that meets the most active keywords, then goes to another random web page and searches again. To prevent DB overload, set a percentage of new finds to previous conversation.

Just thinking out loud.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Small plugin?

Right, that's the idea. "Computer", <tweedle>, "Begin self-destruct"...

I like the plugin provided by Jerry, but I was not able to understand how it worked. I see that it listens for the computer's name, but it seems to ask "if" and responds with "then" but then not take an action.

Unless "Rem PLUGIN: CUSTOMMEM2" means something... I don't find a CustomMem or Custommem2 plugin in my Ultra Hal directory. I do see that certain REM statements seem to be read as tags for plugins.

I would love a brief explanation if possible.

Yes they do, they just aren't very good at it.

Animals establish and defend a territory, but only as large as they are able to defend. Since they are not very good at it (poor communcation and social skills), that area is small.

That's beautiful, thanks. Of course, now I will be up way too late playing with it.

Oh WOW! That works great! I didn't expect it to work for typing, nor did I expect it to work for the name anywhere in the string.

Now I need a better microphone. I want the Motorola H5 miniblue. I will have to settle for a USB headset until it comes out.

Thanks so much for the plugin!

That's what I want, and I did a search first, but either it's well disguised or I need help with keywords. I'll keep searching, but if you happen to recall any phrases in the discussion....

Are you using an MSAgent host to open them with? You can use Hal, but I usually fire up MASS and have it run through all animations.

Maybe it's already been made, I just want Hal to listen for one word, and not listen to anything else until that word is said.

I remember a speech control program that you had to say "computer" before every command. I want to make Hal do something like that.

I suspect it might be easier to edit the brain directly, but thought I would ask first.

Something like (if getAttention != "Computer" then processCommands = "false")

Anybody make that yet? If not, how should I start?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I noticed it pauses, I was wondering if it was something in HAL robbing processing time,

I've tried her in other applications, she always has the pauses. Too bad. I should haul out my old copy of poser and see if I can replicate her with a little more detail.

Thanks for the link.  I thought Athena was very well done (I think I'll keep her).

You're welcome, I wish I could remember who to credit for first posting that link. It may have been on the newgroup.

Isn't that something? I can't remember how I found it, but it was worth installing GoZilla to leech the page.

Did you try out Athena? Do you see the stalling on some of the animations or is it just me?

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / ALF Brain v1.2 Plugins
« on: October 17, 2006, 04:52:59 pm »
I was able to get the Learn From Clip Board plugin to work, until I made a new brain. While the old brain still seems to have the information, the new one does not. I have assured that the plugin is checked in options.

Personally, I would have thought that each brain would have it's own directory and that data files would be specific to individual personas.

If that could be done, perhaps you could have brains which are truly original and distinct from each other.

Just a thought... but does anyone know how to get a new brain to read the learnedtext.brn?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / learn from text file

I was finally able to get the plugin to work by editing the script to reflect the actual directory I installed Ultra Hal into. The script seems to assume the default directory.

You can also search the default directory (it was created for me) and copy over the brain file.

Hope that helps.

Just for comparison, I also have a slower computer (800) using Win2k with a broadband connection. Pages here come up with an almost audible snap... except yesterday. For some reason, yesterday was very slow, then I lost Email altogether for about 4 hours. Then suddenly it came back.

My ISP support guys always go right to "Format and reinstall windows", and I always refuse to do so. Good thing.

It was them, not me.

This is a sort of a "me too" post.

I was interested in the online service, but the page which was supposed to link to samples is blank.

If anyone has something to show, I would appreciate a link. Especially if it shows an application within the current (original) page as the OP asked.

I found her at < http://www.ponx.org/msagent/Acs/ >

Athena.acs and Athena1.acs both seem to be the same. There are long pauses at the end of "move" etc. I had been assuming that there were extra, unneeded frames or something in the animation.
