Ok, here's one for you, can Hal talk to other programs? like using some sort of plugin?

here's the idea: we make a arm or something else with a lego mindstorm kit and have Hal control it.

anybody know if this might be even remotly possible? if not, maybe Zabaware could find a way to add it in 5.0.

Mindstorm sets can do some amazing things, move around, react to light, motion, they have a camera you can add to them, people have made ones that drive around, move arms, pick up cans, play games.

There must be a way to get Hal to talk to the Lego software/Control Box.

Imagine building a robot out of lego's on wheels, with two arms, and putting a laptop on it running Hal, add voice recongition and with the speech output you'd have a walking talking robot.

Ok, what is the best way to create an intelligent brain, like the ones that are shown here. I am looking for more of an explanation than just to edit everything. could someone be more specific? Maybe if we can work together we could share parts of brains or something to improve the general brain. What is the best way to start, with say a fresh copy of ultra hal. create a new brain? what settings, what to include, what not to. How to begin teaching it. what to say to it, etc. etc. etc.

It seems like there are a lot of good smart brains out there, that go beyond what i thought would be possible, i'd love to expand this technology even more.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Creating Characters
« on: October 03, 2001, 10:33:33 pm »
I would like to be able to create characters, however i am not a programmer. I only have version 2 right now. I just spent a couple thousand on software and am saving for a 5,000 dollar cannon video camera so i don't really want to buy a newer version.

I have gotten quite good at creating characters in Poser. High res, lifelike people. (females mostly, i don't have any good male models, yet) I can provide you guys with stills, animations, lip, eye, facial expressions, etc. and you could compile them into a character file. If you'd be will i could do several for you guys, maybe a cd with version 4 could appear on my doorstep, ahem, if you uhh, no what i'm saying ;-)

Anyway, let me know how i can create a character, or get someone else to, i'm currently developing a representative for my web studio, i'm creating her in poser, then creating a microsoft agent to implement on my website, as well as an ultra hal rep for low bandwidth users. But i'd love to be able to create a chracter for the Assistant program on my desktop. Also i'm sure others would like a higher resolution, more lifelike character.

Here is a WIP (work-in-progress) still of the character so far:

Ultra Hal 7.0 / AIM Bot Connection Problems.
« on: August 29, 2001, 11:54:58 pm »
I'm trying to test out the AIM Bot, I installed it and tried to connect, but it won't says it can't find the server.

I am using Road Runner (cable) to connect to the net. no proxy or other settings. just a direct connection. the internet settings were auto configured by road runner setup utility.

can someone give me some ideas how to fix it?
