Title: Active Backgrounds
Post by: tedathome on May 13, 2012, 12:32:46 pm
Did you like Sandee's excerpts from her Switzerland visit? Yes it is finally possible to have active backgrounds in Hal. These backgrounds work in Haptek player, Amanda Interactive's latest OSI and Hal. I have to thank Amanda Interactive for the idea I got from the roadway zip posted there.  I have 20 different ones posted to my skydrive along with a how to text. All are included plus directions in "SKY" zip.

https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=c3fecc3c819da1da&Bsrc=Share&Bpub=SDX.SkyDrive&resid=C3FECC3C819DA1DA!147&id=C3FECC3C819DA1DA%21147#cid=C3FECC3C819DA1DA&id=C3FECC3C819DA1DA%21110

All have been tested by me many times in different Hal skins. To do it is not so complicated but is quite time consuming. I'm hoping that some of you will try it. I will check this post often and answer any questions if I can.  8)

Many thanks to Duskrider for technical help and moral support!

tedathome,
I think they are great.  They will make the backgrounds seem much more realistic.  I just downloaded them and took a quick look through them, so far it seems simple enough to get them going.  I can still remember a post at Zabaware where a person wanted a way to get a realistic fireplace in the background, now you've made something like that possible.
Big thanks to both you and Duskrider.

That's great Carl! Good to hear you are trying it out.

tedathome,
I'm very excited about it, you've already showed it will work.  I got side tracked, If you remember the panoramic pictures  here is a link.  http://www.gayadesign.com/scripts/photonav/
The main link for the viewer is   http://www.gayadesign.com/diy/panoramic-photoviewer-in-javascript/
I saw this viewer ages ago and thought it would be great in hal, you've just jogged my memory and got me interested in it again.
I've already downloaded some panormic pictures and tried them in the HapRegestry, it just squeezes them in which ruins the whole thing.
I didn't mean to side track you with my personal interest but they seem related and possibly you would also be interested in it.  As I said yours is great, the panormic thing would be icing on the cake.

tedathome,
That was quick, I unzipped, choose the zww set, copied and pasted them into my background folder,  tried it out and had a slight problem, changed the location in the hap provided and it now works fine.

Carl, I'm very happy you got one to work for you. As for the panoramic view, I guess my approach to that would be to use the Vista snipping tool and go a short jog at a time to get a series of .jpg's.  The new OSI at Amanda interatctive has an auto-pace hap that I would want to time it with.

Ted,
I had wondered how I would be able to explain it.
Beautiful presentation.  Easy to understand.

Sandee asked me if we going to do activeClothing.
I told her maybe evening dress with sparkling diamonds all over it. (artificial of course)

I agree with Dusky.
A very well thought out presentation.
Great job Ted.

Tedathome,
Okay, checked out or played with the Hap windows OSI, made sure to try the AutopaceLp1.hap, opened and looked at the hap.  I opened the Hapregestry, Loaded a character, Loaded the active background zww, again it works fine, I loaded the AutopaceLP1.hap and the character moved around but the ripple effect stopped.
Just loaded the Autopacestop.hap and the ripple effect stopped again.
I just tried a dozen or so Haps, Drag and drop into the console, clothing changes using a hap to load the bodyskin will stop the ripple, but drag and droping the jpg will not stop the ripple.  Walking and stop walking will stop the ripple, changing wigs will stop the ripple.
I tried changing the timing in the zww.hap to give things time to load, Using .2, .4 ect slows te ripple effect but it still stops.  Just moved the zww.hap to the Hap windows OSI so iI could try it there, The bodyskins load a jpg so that's not a problem but the AutopaceLp1 will stop the ripple.
Thanks for taking a look at the panormic pictures and your thoughts on it.

Thanks ted and duskrider and anyone else who may have helped in all this , it's much appreciated i will if i have time today try to get it working , it's a very cool concept one i never thought i would see in Hal ! Thanks again for all the hard work that was put into this !! GREAT JOB !!! :) ;)

Yeah Carl, I had tried talking to Hal in the Hal GUI and noticed that when I hit enter, the active background would take a very short pause. Didn't notice any stops while changing clothes by clicking in the osi. Hadn't tested changing clothes by hap in Hal, just drag and drop. I was hoping that the active backs would work out well with your clothing and background haps. By changing mood sript haps to command is how I was able to use in Hal. Are your clothes and backround haps command or script? Duskrider says this is also the way to have your girl sing an ogg without being interrupted. Mood haps work the same as always whether script or command, not sure about others but you could try that with your haps and see.

I just tried changing auto pace from script to command. It didn't work, had to change it back. It does stop the ripple as script. Probably no cure for some haps that have to be script.

Ted am i missing something you said the sky drive had a txt how to instructions , where is it ? i selected all and extracted them and see all the active files of ech one but not the txt file of how to . is it a file by it'sself or in one of the many folder files ?  :P
Title: Re: Active Backgrounds
Post by: lightspeed on May 14, 2012, 11:55:18 am
i redown loaded the sky file again , thought maybe ted had forgot to include the txt how to file but it all looks the same and no txt. how to file .
i am doing something wrong .
i went into the charcter file in zabaware and changed the words sript in the emotions files (haps) saved it all then copied all of them and put them in a new folder i created called active back then i copies and put in all the files in the shy file ted created .

i tried to drag a hap file from one of the active files into hals drop box and it just made the back ground all black .
so what did i do wrong here? :P
Title: Re: Active Backgrounds
Post by: lightspeed on May 14, 2012, 12:09:46 pm
Okay i got it going now , placed the file back in the haptek player ( i had it in their before and removed it when it didn't work first time) The problem was i had the words active back seperated for the file name which was stopping the active backgrounds from working .
THis is a really nice back ground effect , THANKS AGAIN TO ALL WHO CREATED IT! Yippyyy !  :) ;)

LS,  everything is in "Sky " zip. Zips are within that zip. Within the zip for desktop folder "bakhap" is "How to txt" that explains all step by step. Sorry if I didn't make that clear at the start.

Very interesting lightspeed. Some would make good backgrounds and they actually have a tutorial on how to make them. I don't mind at all if you post links. Sandee, there is your active hair and clothing!

I changed all the haps in the character folder from script to command, Just about all had to be changed. so for me I'm back to it works great, no problems as far as I know.  The haps I'm using to change bodyskins don't seem to mind being command files.
It's summertime but I want that fireplace, if I start now maybe it'll be ready for winter.

That's great Carl! I'm glad they work with your haps now. I don't mind doing a few more backgrounds. They are time consuming and I wouldn't want to commit to doing a lot of them. If you find the fireplace you want and don't have a lot of time to go through the process, you could send it to me and I would do it. I wouldn't mind a fireplace either!

Hey ted have you used that freeware  program i showed you ?
with that couldn't a person use it and copy a moving animated screen saver to create moving back grounds ?
Their is some very nice realsitic free ones on the internet!
Title: Re: Active Backgrounds
Post by: lightspeed on May 14, 2012, 03:52:47 pm
As we are finding out new things and pushing the boundries on this i wonder if their is a way of getting the haptek player to simply load a animated screen saver like ones on the internet in the player as a back ground ?? if so it would be a matter of saving an animated screensaver in a file and loading it for hal .

I havn't had time yet to check out the software LS. It is for movies, to break them down frame by frame. I had thought about that for backgrounds but that would take thousands if not hundreds of thousands of jpg's even for just a very short movie or cartoon. As for screensavers as backgrounds, I have been thinking to check them out. Don't know how to yet. If anyone knows about screensavers, I would love to know how to open them up and find the magic inside!

Just educated myself a little about screensavers. They are flash - .swf  files put together with software you can get for free. Still don't know if .jpgs can be extracted from them but did find out how to use them as desktop background for Vista here

http://video.search.yahoo.com/video/play?tit=How+to+Make+Your+Own+Screensavers&dsc=How+to+Make+Your+Own+Screensavers+-+Want+a+more+interesting+screensaver%3F+If+you&iid=Y.1&ig=628ba88491ce4c8ab74fb163fde6d56f&c=3&p=how+to+make+screensavers&vid=3b8252127f39348eade3635b5464039a&dt=1208588400&l=303&turl=http%3A%2F%2Fts2.mm.bing.net%2Fvideos%2Fthumbnail.aspx%3Fq%3D4541099561320653%26id%3Dc1dc96a61163ffe3c28b8e121bfcad14%26bid%3DuZnLyLboBZiEbQ%26bn%3DLargeThumb%26url%3Dhttp%253a%252f%252fwww.youtube.com%252fwatch%253fv%253doStz33dReHA&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DoStz33dReHA&tit=How+to+make+a+Screensaver+your+Desktop+Background...&sigr=11am9q7pe&newfp=1

Will keep studying.

Update: Yes the free software is out there to convert .scr to .swf and then to .jpg  It can be done but it's more than I want to tackle ATM.

Yeah showing movies in the Haptek player is pretty cool, but I found you needed far too many frames to make it worthwhile.

if this is of any help.
I use a flash player from adobe to play .swf's  full screen and use cam studio to record it for my Trinity show videos.
the stand alone .swf player/debugger can be found here http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

LOL i heard that Ted , passing the buck again i see LOL . TED I IM'ED YOU
.
I used a free video to jpg converter and made a ocean picture wave to use as a active background but for some reason it just makes background turn black .
i have the new file named OCEAN in the hapteck player activebacks  file and inside it have 15 pics and the hap file i made based on Teds other files .
Here is the pathway : computer/emachines(c:) /program files(x86)/haptek/player/data/standard/activebacks/ocean
HERE IS MY HAP FILE :

#Haptek  Version= 1.00 Name= OCEAN  HapType= script FileType= text
##standard

\clock [t= 0.06] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 01.jpg
\clock [t= 0.12] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 02.jpg
\clock [t= 0.18] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 03.jpg
\clock [t= 0.24] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 04.jpg
\clock [t= 0.30] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 05.jpg
\clock [t= 0.36] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 06.jpg
\clock [t= 0.42] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 07.jpg
\clock [t= 0.48] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 08.jpg
\clock [t= 0.54] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 09.jpg
\clock [t= 0.60] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 10.jpg

\clock [t= 0.66] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 11.jpg
\clock [t= 0.72] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 12.jpg
\clock [t= 0.78] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 13.jpg
\clock [t= 0.84] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 14.jpg
\clock [t= 0.90] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/Rocky Shore 15.jpg

\clock [t= 0.96] \Load [file= OCEAN.hap]

Maybe Ted can tell me what is wrong with this file that it isn't working .HOPEFULLY !

That sounds cool lightspeed. Working with the gifs Duskrider and I did, I found a few times that I had made just one tiny error. The directions have to be followed to the letter. Black screen? I got Vista, I get a white screen. I'm looking forward to see if any of our members post their own active backs.

i see i left the" ]" mark off after the jpg of the picture but even after correcting that it is still doing the same thing black background .  :(

LightSpeed,
Take the spaces out so the line looks like this:
\clock [t= 0.90] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore15.jpg
Of course take the spaces out at the jpg's too.

THnaks duskrider that was the problem now the only problem is that it just last for a 2 seconds the wave moving .
here is the clock setting i have :

\clock [t= 1.06] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore1.jpg]
\clock [t= 1.12] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore2.jpg]
\clock [t= 1.18] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore3.jpg]
\clock [t= 1.24] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore4.jpg]
\clock [t= 1.30] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore5.jpg]
\clock [t= 1.36] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore6.jpg]
\clock [t= 1.42] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore7.jpg]
\clock [t= 1.48] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore8.jpg]
\clock [t= 1.54] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore9.jpg]
\clock [t= 1.60] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore10.jpg]

\clock [t= 1.66] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore11.jpg]
\clock [t= 1.72] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore12.jpg]
\clock [t= 1.79] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore13.jpg]
\clock [t= 1.85] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore14.jpg]
\clock [t= 1.91] \loadbackgrnd [file= data/standard/activebacks/OCEAN/RockyShore15.jpg]

\clock [t= 1.96] \Load [file= OCEAN.hap]

I did this thinking it would make the waves run longer but didn't help any , how should it be set .
on teds the waves continually keep going .

I know this topic is dated but answered in case a newbie or oldbie was interested in knowing where the "how-to" file was located. ;)
