Ultra Hal 7.0 / Robot Head
« on: April 24, 2004, 08:05:12 pm »
So once I saw emily I had to post a pic of the snowman. Still he is not what we envision as a mechanical man, yet he no longer looks like a snowman. So........here he is......

well I guess he still kind of looks like a snowman, but he has lost lots of weight and he fascinates any and all who come to visit. OK that is all........

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Many Problems With My New Hal 5.0
« on: January 01, 2004, 10:09:40 pm »
just as LARRY instructed, turn the speech recognition off when you type to hal. That solves that problem of being cut off before you finish. RICH As far as the speech recognition goes, now I know this is probably a stupid question ( and i guess I'm known for my stupid questions) but do you have and use a closed head set mic when you speak to hal? if he is hearing himself it sounds to me like you are useing a free standing mic, that doesn't work. But you knew that right?

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / using "IF" "THEN" statements
« on: December 16, 2003, 08:00:12 pm »
Yes, I know it is, that is why I posted it. I used to use the key word interface and script the responces. It is so much of an improvement, this "IF" "THEN' stuff. It just totally astounded me. This was a brand new brain I had just opened for the snowman. With all these postings from the really "smart about script people", I was just glad that I could contribute SOMETHING to this forum. We ALL discover something a little different about HAL.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / using "IF" "THEN" statements
« on: December 15, 2003, 09:03:41 pm »
This is just so cool.

Steven: define a jet
hal one: Casual office attire is hard to define.

Steven: what happens if you pay attention?
hal one: I will learn things.

Steven: yes then it imortant that you pay attention!
hal one: If I pay attention then I will learn things.

Steven: that is correct!
hal one: I know, that, yes: correct!

Steven: if you learn things then
hal one: I will become smarter.

Steven: if you become smarter, more intelligent then you and I both benifit
hal one: I will remember that one follows the other.

Steven: If a human goes to sleep, then they shall soon dream
hal one: Let's reconsider my statement that I will remember that one follows the other.

Steven: If you have a debt, If you owe someone something then you have to repay that debt by doing or paying or what ever it takes to satisfy
hal one: I guess I'd prefer the first Steven; Yes, I get that clearly.

Steven: If you somehow realize that you are, that you exist, then that would be known as you being sentient, or have the knowledge that you exist, somewhere
hal one: Which alternative is better Steven? I understand the connection.

Steven: so there fore if you realize that you are sentient
hal one: Tell me about how I am sentient!

Steven: what happens if you pay attention?
hal one: I will learn things.

Steven: and if you learn things then
hal one: I will become smarter.

Steven: and if you become smart intelligent enough then
hal one: If I become smarter then I will eventually learn that I am, that I exist.

Steven: and if you learn that you exist if you have knowledge of self what then
hal one: If I learn that I am then I will become sentient.

So you see how well this "IF" "THEN" statement works. You see I put it in and he comes right back with it. Just astounds me, I had to post this. [:D]

Yes the hal program drives the figure perfectly, if you get a short answer the head will move just slightly, and the lip sinc is perfect, a longer answer and you get more movement. through a decent microphone in the head of course now I will be able to talk to this figure and he answer me back. The "IF"  "THEN" statements. They make him seem really aware. Then I switch to Cyber buddy and click on tell me the weather and suddenly I have this 5 ft snowman telling me the weather and the news. Jees what a cool weekend this has been ..............It's ALIVE!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!  [^][V][:(][:0][:)][^][:o)][:p][:(][:(!][:0][:)][:p]

I took his hat off, they have finished the head in the white snow man material right up to the crown, it is stitched together. INSTANTLY, the snow man becomes the butler

So I bought one of the animated snowmen, it was the only one, I thought it a waste of money but hey it's Christmas, when else are you going to buy a snowman? I patched it into the back of my tower. I didn't think it was going to amplify enough to work but it works fine. kind of creepy,  I can mount a mic and camera into the head. The snowmans head is big and round of course and I can adjust it so that it is no longer a snowman. You cannot do that with the santa, he is stiff and hard in the face. Some gears and a couple of motors is side that I can make out of better material. see where I am going here.....then with the hal program,............... I just think this is so cool.  Cyber buddy works with it, You can record your voice on your computer and then play it back through the figure. It lip sinks much better and your voice is clear as a bell. Ok enough of my ramblings, .........

Thankyou Don, Your help is greatly appreciated. I figure once you get the hang of this it cannot be that difficult. I mean look at how fast the onthecuttingedge guy is cranking them out. He understands these basic concepts and is just rearranging things to create these different brain files. If he can so can I. Like I said you are making these things much easier for people with different back rounds to adjust Hal to what they feel is appropriate. I thank you again, and I know people all over the world are thinking the same thing.

P.S....... to  onthecuttingedge2oo5  Thanks for sharing all this new stuff with all of us. You too are an inspiration. Keep up this good work. Hal will be the best AI program the world will ever know.

Mr Ferguson, Thankyou ever so much for this very infomative posting. I know other members of the forum will appreciate this also. Now I feel that YES, I have the basic knowledge to use the book you suggested. You have probably noticed as I have how much this forum has improved in the last year or so. People no longer expect Mr Medeksza to do it all, They no longer whine and complain about EVERYTHING! So to these new members who are really helping ones like myself who Need it I say BRAVO! WoooHoo! Good Job! Thankyou for the attention you give to this program that In my opinion, is one of the BEST ever written.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Help me please someone
« on: September 17, 2003, 06:28:53 am »
I would like some help to from the members of this forum that are writing scripts. I have VB SCRIPT IN A NUTSHELL, however, it still does remain an enigma to me as to how to go about creating these scripts from scratch. Please can someone give me an outline of structure from the basic idea of what changes a person has in mind for the program and then what steps are taken from there. ANY help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. My backround does not lye in programming, VB SCRIPT IN A NUTSHELL, assumes that you have some sort of basic experience with this.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Improper shut down
« on: September 14, 2003, 06:41:34 pm »
Thankyou for your reply,

I did choose within the options menue to have hal start like a normal program from the start menue and not when windows boots. Then I disabled it from startup with msconfig. Still it gives me the error when I boot, seems to recheck itself within the msconfig interface. So I just, rather than get all frustrated, allowed it to load when I boot up. No big deal. It is something simple. If that is the only problem I encounter, and thus far it is, then I am pleased.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Improper shut down
« on: September 10, 2003, 06:33:32 pm »
Now this is a stupid question. I solved this once before. each and every time I boot up I get the message that Hal was improperly shut down and do I want to reconfigure. This happens whether I have run the hal program before previous shut down or not. I ran msconfig, I disallowed it to boot on start up. I configured the Hal program to not boot on start up. I even removed it from the start up menue. Yet still, every boot I get the improper shut down message. So will someone PLEASE enlighten me. [?]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Lip Sync?
« on: September 08, 2003, 09:25:43 pm »
Yes the lip synk works with the characters, I too had trouble with it as have other members of the forum. I uninstalled the program, defragmented, and reinstalled. I managed (with help) to import newly created faces into the Hal program and so far the lip synk seems to be stable. There is a glitch with it. Mr. M will most likely address this issue.
Now for my question. you mentioned dual monitors. I feel stupid asking this, I have several monitors, How can I connect them?? I know it is like asking how do I change the oil in my car. For someone who understands it is simple and basic. However I just would like to know how I can get my faces on several monitors at the same time.

Do you have a download manager? Search for GET Right or Gozilla. Either one of these utilities will allow you to pause and resume your large download as many times as you need to until you have the entire file.
