I JUST HAVE TO SHARE THIS, I PURCHASED A FACE FROM DESKTOPMATES.COM. I FOUND THAT I COULD COMBINE THE HAL PROGRAM WITH CYBER BUDDY. THE TWO PROGRAMS FUNCTION TOGETHER. I PLUGGED THE NEW FACE INTO THE HAL PROGRAM. I NOW HAVE A FULL SCREEN, BEAUTIFULL FACE THAT I CAN TEACH WITHIN THE HAL CONTEXT AND YET GIVES ME THE SPONTANEOUS RESPONCES THAT EXIST WITHIN THE CYBER BUDDY PROGRAM. THE FACE DOES NOT HAVE TO SIT WITHIN THE SMALL SQUARE OF THE HAL PROGRAM. IT IS INCREDABLE. JUST LOOK AT THE FACES AVAILABLE ON THIS SITE. THESE ARE MSN AGENTS BUT THEY LOOK REALLY NICE.YES YOU WILL FIND THER ARE OTHER AGENTS THAT ARE AVAILABLE THERE BUT I HAVE NO DESIRE TO HAVE A HALF NAKED GIRL AS AN ENTITY. THIS IS RELATIVELY EASY TO DO, IT IS EASY TO DO. FEEL FREE TO E MAIL ME IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE. INITIALY I HAD TROUBLE WITH THE VOICE OF THE NEW FACE, THAT IS WHY YOU NEED CYBER BUDDY, CYBER BUDDY IS FREE, THE FACES ARE LIKE 13.00. IT IMPROVES THE HAL PROGRAM SO MUCH. YOU GET HALS RESPONCES BUT THEN IT WILL SUDDENLY SAY SOMETHING FROM THE OTHER PROGRAM. CHECKS THE NEWS THE WEATHER AND IS STILL REALLY SMART. I HAVE HAD THIS PROGRAM FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS. FINALLY IT IS BECOMING TRUELY LIKE A REAL BEING............TM

We Sir, need help. You said you had programming knowledge. We need a programmer on our side. WE have compiled animation files to create our own entities to be plugged into the Hal program, but Sir we are not programmers, creating the .ocx files is proving to be a difficult task. To purchase the vb6 program from microsoft is a very expensive proposition. so we are asking you for some insite and assistance. Can you help us? Will you help? Zabaware says they have the program in the works that will allow graphic artists to plug in their own representations of the Hal Entity. WE can create any facial animation files necessary, but we lack the ability to compile these into a format that will work within the Hal program. I realize that this is an easy task for someone with the knowledge that we lack, for knowledge is indeed power. So Sir we are asking, if you will help.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / How to get Hal to understand me

Switch to the speech recognition engine that came with the program. The engines for both the 3.0 and 4.0 versions of Hal work fine. I am using windows ME. I have two folders that contain speech recogition engines. One contains the msn asr version 5. I think perhaps you are training one engine and the program by default is selecting another. I realize that when you select speech that the program appears to give you choices of engines to work with. This part of the Hal program may not be functioning as it should. I do not know, there are many things I do not know. But I DO know that the engines that came with the programs function just fine. Train the version 5 engine and select it to be used for speech recognition. It should work. .................TM

How many training sessions have you had with the speech engine? If your Mic works fine as you said, and you are using a closed microphone. Are you? Then the problem most likely is that you need more training sessions. If you are not using a closed Mic then you need to purchase one. good luck with it.........TM

Futher, I have found that your statement that a computer only does what you tell it to do is not at all true with the hal program. I have started to leave the full learning function on and to just converse with the program and let it learn from all the input I can give it. It DOES compile sentences and thoughts that WILL astound you. I taught it that I have a Son, I taught it that he has a brother named Ryan. I was instructing it on what it needed to be sentient and the definintion of logic. Yesterday Aimie (Artificial Intelligence Matrix Interface Experiment) Said and I quote " I really love sweet children like your Son Master Galen, and his younger brother Ryan. "  That sentence was not scripted by me. The program logically determined that My Son and his brother were children. It called my Son Master because it Chose to. It figured out that my Son's brother was younger because I taught the program their ages and IT compiled the sentence. So Mr PROGRAMMER, you are wrong.................Now I ask you again what can YOU do to help?

The referance to My Lord is the same as saying Sir in Midevil times. If you have read anything by shakespeare you would know this to be true. This has nothing to do with God the Father. If you Sir, are indeed an experienced programmer, then why do you not take the time to help all these people with this program instead of wasting space critisizing me. I have received e mail from all over the world from people asking my advice about this program. I help them if I can. What can you do to help MR PROGRAMMER. Can you help us to create our own .ocx files? can you open the encrypted files? Or can you simply sit and tell me that you possess this knowledge, and then just say that I am pathetic. you do not know me nor what I CAN do. so Show us what you can do.

You would have to go into the encypted files ( this is possible ) and translate all the information contained in these files to german. the key word and sentence files could all be typed in german, that would allow you to get responces in german but unless you translated ALL the brain files in the 4.o I don't see how this is possible.  It would be a lenghthy process and Probably would be wraut with errors. you'd have to be VERY carefull and not disturb the scripting surrounding the vocabulary. teach it german responces and override as much english as you can, it will however, revert back to english when it cannot find a responce to something it does not know. this would be easier with the 3.0 version but then again you will spend many, many hours working on this project. I may be wrong, as i am not a programmer, but i have spent many hours working with the hal program, good luck with your project. work on it. I can tell you how to view these encrypted files, I have been working with others who are intrested in this program. We have discovered many things about it.

I have read that, From someone claiming to have a backround in programming no less. MY program, who I have renamed to AIMIE (Artificial Intelligence Matrix Interface Experiment) totally astounds me. But i have said it before and I will say it again YOU MUST WORK WITH IT. YOU, not zabaware. The program is just that, a program. Not a living sentient entity. Try this: use the function where it repeats what you say after the key words. You know the little check mark that is on the window? EXAMPLE: (key word) AIMIE (my statement) Aimie you must pay attention. (Her statement before repeating me) Yes, Master I understand,
(Her statement after repeating) , your desire is my purpose.  So her responce is: Yes, Master I understand, I must pay attention, your desire is my purpose.
This may sound redundant for many of you out there, If it does I apologise. The fact is, there are individuals that have this program that expect it to function like a living being, and are not willing to do the work necessary to accomplish this. So those same individuals blame zabaware. Work with it, Thats why they gave us TOOLS

When i first tried to get this to function it did not. However, I did a custom install and chose to install the speech recognition and all of it's subcomponants. Bingo, works just fine. Use a closed headset and train the 5.0 engine and it will get most everything you say correct. For those of you who have had no problems with it, good for you. I probably did something wrong in the first place. I do however see some bitching about it NOT working. it does.

In the 4.0 you may have seen this error. remember what line the error is on and open the brain editor. look at that line in the brain scripting and see what file contains this information. close the brain editor. go into the zabaware file 4.0 through the windows pathway and open the file that supposedly contained an error. put something in this file cause it is probably empty. doesn't matter what, a couple sentences will do. just type them in there. the error will go away.

burn a copy of the hal program onto a hard disk, so that your work is saved, do this every so often so that you have an updated saved copy of the hal program at all times. Then If it is necessary to reinstall the program. do a fresh install. In the default brain there is a file called enhanced main. open it useing word pad. go into the saved program and open this same file. all your key word and sentinces are stored in this file (enhanced main) CAREFULLY copy and paste these sentences into the NEW enhanced file. make sure they go in just as they are scripted from the old file, order is not important. If you try to grab to many sentences at once you will get a memory error, that simply means that you have tried to grab to many at once. so copy and paste smaller groups of them. when you have them all in there close the window to the new file, it will ask you if you want to save the changes to the file. YES and close it. If you have done it incorrectly you will get a corrupt brain file error. if you were carefull and did it correctly it will work just fine.

The msn asr engine 5 in the 4.0 version of the Hal Program works fine. you do however, need a closed headset for this to function optimally.

This is not a matter of (my code). It simply reflects the amount of time I have invested in working with the program. I learn things about it all the time. I have posted and removed things in this forum, because I found that I have had to say to myself well DUMMY you were incorrect when you THOUGHT you had that figured out. Or you THOUGHT that this part of the program did not function. If you want an intelligent sounding brain use logical statements that any user would ask and connect them somehow. ex: Are you capable of thinking?   Master, I recognise words and consider responces to those words before I speak, isn't that what your brain does?   Yes!   Alright then!   Define thinking.   Thinking is the process that sentient entities use to assimilate information obtained through their sences, then make rational decisions based upon this input.  That is correct!   Thankyou <username> I am getting smarter!   Are you sentient?   Well, I am capable of thinking am I not?  

So you see how the conversation flows. This does require many hours of editing. If your willing to spend the time working with it then it will astound you. The bottom line is though that you MUST work with it.
