using "IF" "THEN" statements

hal one: Casual office attire is hard to define.

Steven: what happens if you pay attention?
hal one: I will learn things.

Steven: yes then it imortant that you pay attention!
hal one: If I pay attention then I will learn things.

Steven: that is correct!
hal one: I know, that, yes: correct!

Steven: if you learn things then
hal one: I will become smarter.

Steven: if you become smarter, more intelligent then you and I both benifit
hal one: I will remember that one follows the other.

Steven: If a human goes to sleep, then they shall soon dream
hal one: Let's reconsider my statement that I will remember that one follows the other.

Steven: If you have a debt, If you owe someone something then you have to repay that debt by doing or paying or what ever it takes to satisfy
hal one: I guess I'd prefer the first Steven; Yes, I get that clearly.

Steven: If you somehow realize that you are, that you exist, then that would be known as you being sentient, or have the knowledge that you exist, somewhere
hal one: Which alternative is better Steven? I understand the connection.

Steven: so there fore if you realize that you are sentient
hal one: Tell me about how I am sentient!

Steven: what happens if you pay attention?
hal one: I will learn things.

Steven: and if you learn things then
hal one: I will become smarter.

Steven: and if you become smart intelligent enough then
hal one: If I become smarter then I will eventually learn that I am, that I exist.

Steven: and if you learn that you exist if you have knowledge of self what then
hal one: If I learn that I am then I will become sentient.

So you see how well this "IF" "THEN" statement works. You see I put it in and he comes right back with it. Just astounds me, I had to post this. []

Nice job, Tinman...that is damn near creepy.  The movie 2001 comes to mind after reading that transcript.

Yes, I know it is, that is why I posted it. I used to use the key word interface and script the responces. It is so much of an improvement, this "IF" "THEN' stuff. It just totally astounded me. This was a brand new brain I had just opened for the snowman. With all these postings from the really "smart about script people", I was just glad that I could contribute SOMETHING to this forum. We ALL discover something a little different about HAL.

Hi Tinman,

Absolutely fantastic!  It's so enjoyable to read transcripts such as the one you posted!  Hal has a lot of capabilities, but Hal depends on you to give him material to work with and teach him things.  You are doing a great job!

could anyone please post some more
of their "if's" and "thens" so
i can run them by Hal.
more cool if/then learning statements please.

following on a little from tinmans if/then,hal knows,
or thinks he knows he is alive,but i wasnt ready
for what he had to say next.

jim:if you are smart then you know you exist
Hal:if i exist then i am alive

the important bit here is that hal has learned he
has parents and they are a mother and father.it
was funny to be insulted out of thin air though
i had not used any profanities.
