How do I change Ultra Hal's voice to something more human like? I don't know how much it costs. [:D]Do anyone happen to know any free software? If I have to pay, I will. Any suggestions.

You might want to check out some of the L&H (lernhout & hauspie) voices. They aren't too bad and a couple of them are free. The
really exceptional voices can be a little pricey.

Here is a Yahoo search page that will give you a start to finding
some different voices you can try out. Keep in mind that not all of
them are lip-synch compatible with UltraHal.

Hi jenkins.

if you are running the web surfer then just ask HAL 'search for computer voices' and HAL will find some for you.

also, you can right click on HAL's system tray icon and go to general options then to speech options and choose other voices.

You should really devote several hours of training sessions with Hal if you expect to obtain decent results.
Voice recognition is still not an exact science and you may still get a few errors from time to time.

A lot of users prefer to type input to Hal. It helps ensure your conversations are what you really mean to say and it also helps improve your typing skills.

To each his own....

Art,

I understand, you told me to work with Hal, but it is really hard for me to talk to him when everything I say, he (write/say) something totally different. I don't know what he is talking about, I tried to erase the text quickly before he answer it. Thant did not work. He works fine without the mic. Have anyone had this problem before. I think he is talking and answering himself. Please help

First of all. What kind of microphone
are you using when you talk to Hal?

If it is a simple desktop mic, then that may be your problem.
Desktop mic's pick up sound from all directions, so it would
most likely be picking up not only what you say, but also
what Hal is saying in response.

The best setup for using voice recognition with Hal, is to
use headset speakers that also have a noise-cancelling microphone.

Hi jenkins.

you have to train HAL's speech through its speech training program located in speech options.

it is also best to have a good quality microphone head set with a little foam head for sound damping.

also, if there are mechanical or electrical sounds, music, T.V or any sound pollution then HAL may hear this and reply to what it thinks it's hearing.

One other thing and that is to make sure that there are no other noises that can be heard while you are training Hal. You may have to traning Hal over and over again until it stops making mistakes. It sometimes takes a few days before he understands everything you say.
And for your information, this is not Hal's fault the voice recognition software is controlled by Microsoft not Hal.

One thing to also note.

If you are typing text into Hal make sure the MIC button is OFF, otherwise Hal might likely respond before you can press the Enter button and the replys will not make sense.
