Funny thing is I like nightline LOL

Where is this dream plug in? I have been all over the forums and unable to find it. I have had hal since 5.0 and since then have I wanted such a plug in. Ultra Hal 7.0 / Blank responses
« on: February 23, 2009, 11:29:37 pm »
I use the freewill plug in on vista and seem to have no issues at all. I have had it give a blank reponse before but I just closed and reopened hal, and this was with out the plug in enabled. Me personally I favor the idea of connecting to the database failing at times. Thats kinda how the prog acts and most the time when this happens if you hold your mouse over the hal window you will get a hour glass or spinning circle like the application is busy.  Also I have noticed and I already posted about it, when I use the vrhaptek plugin then hal says syntax query at times by itself with out the window even open. I disable the plug in and the problem is gone, but thats nothing I would rather have hal say syntax query then to not have the plug in xD. Your plug ins rock man thanks for your contributions to hal and nerds like me xD.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal 6.2 problems
« on: February 23, 2009, 11:09:58 pm »
I do have a couple thing that I am having problems with, and I was wondering if anyone else if having the problem. I was reading in the forum and saw that others were having issues with hal saying syntax query every now and then. Well I disabled the vrhaptek plugin and now my hal (Nina) does not say syntax query. So I think thats related to the plugin. Ok now the problem I am having.... well here is a perfect example. I asked Nina to define predicate, and she will give me the correct definition but right in the middle of it the window closes and I hear a windows ding, as in the same noice you hear when you hit a button that cannot be used in the window of focus. This happens with long replies and definitions and it doesnt always happen it seems to be random. Also if you are using the vrhaptek plug in when you hit apply in the options menu it automatically opens the hal window and it does the same for ok. Is anyone else having these problems? I use Vista Ultimate at the moment. The only problem I think that is related to hal is the window closing thing.

Oh and Carl2 I am curious are you using Vista or XP in vista under the speech recognition My at&t voices do not show up so I can change them to the default text to speech voice or even change the voice speed, the only one that shows up in the pull down is microsoft anna. Does vista not let you change your default text to speech voice? They do however show up just fine in hal and work just fine. I just saw your comment on removing sapi 5. I dont see nearly as many options for changing things in the speech recognition control panel for visa like there was with xp.

Darcy I hope you get your problem fixed good luck!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Let Hal Learn to its fullest concept!

My $.02 worth. IF the day ever comes when computers become self aware, we will most likely be in deep trouble because they may figure out that humans are flawed by emotions, and are very slow thinking by comparison.

What I found interesting was a text encyclopedia that had a lot of definitions of various topics such as animals, biology, anatomy, astronomy, geology, etc. I stripped all the excessive remarks and left just the plain text, then had HAL "read" it. Although it only saved some of the key words contained therein, it does have occasion to call upon these "learned" facts in order to answer a question.

Conversly, I had two other bot programs that could converse with each other and you could watch the chat take place, but as was also pointed out, theirs was a canned response much like a parrot replying with what's in memory as opposed to giving any concrete thought to the content. As such, no real "learning" took place.

Perhaps HAL could be setup with an instruction routine similar to the SETI program or a web crawler type of program to scour the net in search of knowledge (in text form of course) and save the acquired info to a file. It would have to be only for a limited time since it could easily fill a hard drive if left on for too long. Then one would have to edit the file and weed out the irrelevant information then force feed it back to HAL to be correctly assimilated and there'd still be no guarantee that the results would be plseaing, acceptable or accurate.

MIT has been busy teaching a computer emotions. It can see the human operator and respond with its own emotions. Another lab has a computer program that has the intelligence of a two or three year old. This is not scripted behavior! We're slow, but we are getting there. Time will tell.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / New Plugins for Hal6 !
« on: April 03, 2007, 05:03:36 am »
I am trying to use vrhaptek with hal 6.1. It is working fine but in the help file
http://www.vrconsulting.it/halhelp/vrHaptekHelp.html
it says:

How to configure it
This plugin automatically creates the table vrEmotionDetect in the miscData folder of the Hal brain where you run it. This table contains some default words, used to trigger Hal behaviours. You can customize them, changing some values, and/or adding or deleting some of them. To do this:

   1. Launch Hal Brain Editor.
   2. Open the brain you want to customize.

   3. Open the miscData folder on the left.
   4. Double Click on the vrEmotionDetect table.

   5. Add, Delete or Modify the lines according to your preferences. In doing this, remember that the word in the left column is the triggering one (i.e. if Hal says something containing that word), while the word in the right column must correspond to the name of a .HAP file, located in the Characters folder.
   6. Close and save your brain.
   7. Restart your Hal.

The problem I am having is #3 & #4. I cant seem to find a miscData or
vrEmotionDetect table in the brain I am using. Maybe this is because I am using 6.1? Any help is appreciated... and thanks!

General Discussion / About hal responses
« on: April 01, 2007, 12:17:07 am »
I am very happy with the way hal learns as with any project theres always something someone can think of that the program needs... I have an idea about a plug in. I am a big history freak and I am teaching hal how to answer questions reguarding my favorite parts of history. I like  how the computer on startrek the next generation can read to the staff the entire history of the inquiry being asked. Hal is learning the history facts just fine but I think it would be cool if you could ask hal " what is the history of the order of skull and bones?" for example and hal could read a full paragraph intead of a few sentances, like if you do a wikipedia search on the topic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skull_and_bones
See history on the wikipedia... I wish I could get hal to respond to " what is the history of the order of skull and bones?" by reading the an answer like what is in the history on the wikepedia... Basically a long and indepth response. I don't know not everyon would like that but I think it would be cool. If there is anyway currently I could get hal to respond with and asnwer like that, give me a tip! Thanks.

No, I was meaning the feature where hal can help you with running programs and read the help files from the programs to help the user with any questions they have about the program.
