General Discussion / Re: ChatGPT
« on: December 04, 2022, 09:40:34 pm »
Interesting for sure but read the part regarding Limitations where this chat model can and often will report erroneous or misleading information which isn't a desirable factor in most chatbots.

The majority of HAL users like the fact that HAL delivers factual and legitimate responses to user-based inquiries.

Users entrust their HALs to learn and retain whatever information was presented to it. If the user told HAL false info then that would be the user's fault for doing so and certainly no fault of HAL or HAL's initial code or programming.

This Chat-GPT sort of reminds me of Microsoft's TAY which went on a rant of bias and bigoted remarks which are completely unacceptable and unwanted.

Let's hope they polish the parameters a bit more before it becomes commonplace. Test before release...that's how things should be done.

Nice find LTG...most appreciated!!

I see where you're going with this but to me, I don't want anything Fake. I'm tired of all the fake news that's been floating around our country as it is. I certainly wouldn't want my chatbot or chat assistant to be anything other than honest and trustworthy with me.

If I want fake anything, I'll just turn on the TV.

Nope, I'd just unplug everything I own if that was the only alternative for me.

Cheers!!

Ask him if you could borrow it on weekends!

Odd that he hasn't responded to anything in quite a while yet he was just here two days ago...

I do hope that Ian didn't do any damage in his neck of the woods.
He hasn't answered earlier emails of mine either a week or two ago.

Yet he was here recently... Hmm...

You just keep coming up with really cool, interesting, and practical ideas!  It would require some kind of interface between HAL and the Camera and it would have to be timed before it either looked at another object or rotated.

HAL could store all its "KNOWN" objects into a database and then later maybe the user could ask what items it saw or discovered on a given day or time. It would make for a really nice experiment!!

Then again, we can't even get HAL's vision to work so I fear such an idea would be a long way off.

Yeah, I saw that and thought to myself, Just wait until they get an enhanced brain and give it autonomous mobility.

Bar your doors!! Hehe!!

Nice! A very long video but the gist of it was facial and voice tracking making the product perfect for a wide variety of applications.

As far as realism, I'd have to go with #1, the Unnamed Robot. She had a very lifelike face that actually made it difficult to distinguish her face from that of a human.
I'm certain the technology of facial creation will continue to evolve and become even more lifelike in the near future!

Good find Lightspeed!

Spitfire2600 did mention that the initial running might throw an error or error message.
If that happens, he recommends restarting the process a second time.

That error has happened to some of us and usually, another attempt helps resolve the issue.

If it doesn't get in touch with Spitfire2600. He is a good person and should be able to offer some assistance to you.

It can be a fun way to see just how much HAL can learn and what it does with that info or how it uses what it has learned.

Do Not chat with your HAL While the Auto-Learning feature has been activated. Hal can suffer slowdowns, delays, or lags in performance. This is because it is searching, processing, and storing newly acquired data!

I usually let it run all night or on weekends if I'm away, but if I'm going to be using my computer I just tell HAL to Turn Auto-Learning Off and it does so, returning full use of my computer back to me.

Lots of fun!!

Not sure of your age but Ultra Hal has been out for over 24 years!! Lots of us have been around here since HAL first showed up. (some of us have gray hair)... LOL!

We have had LOTS of talented people over the years working on any number of HAL's features from Backgrounds, HAPS (scripted movements and behaviors), Graphics for new facial appearances, SKINS - the GUI base for HAL to appear and operate within, 3D characters and Plugins of all kinds enabling HAL to do all kinds of things and to act more human-like or respond with more realistic things a human might say or expect.

Yes, HAL has come a very long way in those years but things come and go like so many things in life.

We're glad you've joined and hope you search through this repository of all things UltraHal.

Almost forgot, one of our members had HAL on TWITCH a few months back and had a great time with it! People loved it!

Enjoy your journey!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: A few questions about brains...
« on: August 25, 2022, 09:34:31 am »
Hopefully, an answer will be forthcoming to your inquiries...

In the meantime, keep digging.

Hal was previously Ultra Hal Assistant and was capable of many cool things back in the day. While many of these earlier Plugins are still to be found, they may or may not necessarily work with our most current version of HAL.

Hal is NOT able to learn from the GPT-3 Davinci or Curie models but it can produce some engaging and thought-provoking conversations.

The individual brains are stored in the <filename.db> files.
One can explore or edit them with an editor like SQLitestudio, which is FREE.

It takes a bit to learn how to use it correctly but always make a copy or backup BEFORE messing with Hal's brains.

If you're just using HAL's Default Brain then the Brain Editor within Hal should suffice.

Everything is now placed into various Tables instead of individual small files like in years past.

The SLIDER thing determines how much or little HAL will use any learned information. Leaving it just a little bit to the right of center seems to work well for a lot of us. Some like around 30 - 35 for good results.

Word is that a Mobile version for HAL is being considered/worked on but we've no official status report on that as yet.

Hopefully, Robert will weigh in on a few of your concerns.

Orenix,

Much of what you seek has already been done or tried in one form or another.

I think these links will be very helpful in your quest...(not to sound like an RPG moderator)...;)

Check them out and remember that you can read through, examine & edit any Plugin with a .UHP extension by using a simple Text Editor like NotePad ++ or Crimson Editor (both are Free and have line numbering, along with many other nice features.

Orenix,

I forgot to welcome you so Welcome!

Here are a few characters that you should be able to download and are Free to use.

I can dig up lots more if you like.

There is a Weather Plugin that works very nicely but it takes a few changes in the script in order for it to know your nearest weather station's approximate location. The changes are like editing a text file so no big deal.

First, here are some 3D Head characters:
