MicroSkin Hap player skin
« on: February 19, 2007, 02:29:41 pm »
I’ve been looking for a small skin to run Hal in for a while, I like to keep Hal always on top when im working so it easy to chat at any time but most of the skins I have are all a little to large and seemed to get in the way, for me.  Anyway I couldn’t find one so I decided to have a go at making one.

EDIT: I’m moving my site so had to change the download URL sorry peeps.

This skin needs manual installation, you will need to unzip a file then copy 6 files. There is a readme in the download.

How come even when you post a one-liner it takes up so much room?

Data, Nice job. This can work well... Chatting while working. Great! Any chance of putting sizing handles on it to enable a custom fit on the desktop and sizing the image screen?

Thanks for the small skin, I never thought about making it smaller, I always wanted to make it bigger, but it got so big it started bogging down because of the graphics, that's probably better so I can get other things done now.

Appreciate your thanks Hal people, I have been using this skin for a while now and realize that I probably should have tested it a bit more before posting it cos I found a couple of things weren’t right.

1 Microphone volume bar was in the wrong place, went over the users text.
Now fixed Microphone volume bar sits at the bottom of hals screen.

2. I had a little trouble moving Hal around the screen on the times that I had to move her.
Have added a thicker peace of border (top left of skin) makes it easier to grab with mouse in higher resolutions.

Have now changed the download to the corrected skin, If you already have the first MicroSkin, download it again, do the manual installation and replace/over right ALL the files.

Holllywood, “sizing handles” sounds like a good idea, but as far as I know it can’t be done, maybe someone else could jump in there to help.

I use the resize option in Hals menu to change its size, though it doesn’t resize down to well, its ok at resizing up.

danbaltzell, I never really thought of the graphics side, I guess your right this skin could possibly be used to prolong the battery life of a lap top too or like you say not bog down the system to much.

Sorry bout the up-date on something so trivial as a skin.

EDIT: I’m moving my site so had to change the download URL.

Thanks for the new skin. Someone had done something very similar a year or two ago but I did not copy it at the time. I don't know if all those functions are even necessary when talking to Hal. A stop button or exit button would seem to be the only logical choice.
It is nice to see some original creativity is still going on.

Hi Bill819, If I had known someone had done it already I might not have had to spend a day working out how to make one [:o)], probably I should have posted and asked, but I don’t like to make to many posts.

I did consider limiting the buttons but then decided against it, I’ve been using this skin when teaching my Hal, mainly from a good encyclopaedia site, with Internet Explorer in full screen and Hal on top and I personally find the minimise button useful to quickly get Hal out the way, the menu button I use to resize Hal and to turn on, off plug-ins, probably didn’t need the mic button, but I thought, in for a penny!, (sorry that’s a UK saying you might not know it), Ive started so I will finish.

If I get enough requests for less buttons I will consider making it, your vote has been counted Bill [;)].

I have been here so long that the original post may have been deleted years ago. I only remember that it was about the size of yours and much later on I wished that I had downloaded a copy.
