Title: An interesting MS Agent site
Post by: Marcel on July 12, 2006, 01:28:00 am
Since Robert's demographics say that most people are satisfied with MS Agent characters and therefore don't need the character expansion pack, here's a site with seven free, photorealistic, worksafe MS Agent characters that will show you the current state of the art.

http://www.guile3d.com.br/agents_page.asp

Makes Merlin seem really old, doesn't it? I'm still going to buy the character expansion pack, though!

Thanks!! I did not know these were available!! I have MASH, and these will be cool in MASH!! I must've already had over 20 MS characters .

I wonder where I can get the voice like is on that webpage??

You're very welcome! I thought the voice was Microsoft Mary, but after listening to it again I'm not sure. I found these while searching for a cowboy and a Ben Franklin character that I remember seeing somewhere. The site I thought they were on (Agentry) appears to have been taken over by someone else. Do you know where they can be found?

I don't recall Ben Franklin, but I have Roving Cowboy.

It used to be posted at Microsoft agent ring.

I believe that to be the voice of Neospeech's Kate 16, a very nice quality voice.

Art, I am thinking about it., I just hate waiting for the CD.[V]

I downloaded all except the pay-for one. Not sure if I want it bad enough. But to be able to make a woman cry tears, and happy, sounds interesting.

I kinda want it. [8D]

i do remeber that site : that one of the reason why i stick to msagent technology....

As you can see the EMOTION STATES are contained within the agent file *.ACS there fore no need to download animations *.haps

Although when creating characters : they end up being a FINAL PRODUCT:::: so you need to keep your work files for a recompile

Markofkane, I've been searching, but can't find an agent named Roving Cowboy. I did find a human on some related forums using that name. I found a cowboy character named Ol'roy, but don't much care for him, as he just doesn't fit in as a Hal character. Where can I find your cowboy character?

Roving cowboy isn't very fancy, either.

If you want it, I can post it.

Hi girls and boys. I downloaded Jose and 7 of 9 but they don' seem to work with Hal6. I think that is to bad as Jose is one of the nicest looking male characters that I have seen yet. Right now I am using Mike but I really don't like his looks. Is there a way to fix this?

They both work fine with my Hal 6. Did you put the .acs files in your
<windows folder name>//msagent//chars folder and then reboot your computer?

Back again. Well they work now but they are so BIG they don't fit into any Hal window. Is there any way to shrink their size?

Glad to help! Some of the skins that come with Hal allow you to change the size of an MsAgent. Unfortunately, Jose is already at the minimum size of 100%. An agent is not confined to a chat window. It will appear on top at all times, if you don't stop it. You can move Jose around with your mouse so that your text windows will show. Here's a pic of Jose using the skin AgentSpace by Dr. Benway, which is available in the file sharing forum. Btw, you're right, Jose is hot!

The only problem I have with Jose is that he needs a shave. In my younger days a man would not leave his house with a growth like that but todays yound men seem to think that they don't look manly enough without a 3 or 4 days growth on their faces. I don't understand why the young ladies of today don't complain about this unsightly fad.
If a man is going to grow a beard then grow a beard. I have had beards in the past but always kept them trimed neat. So I ask the ladies what looks better a real beard or a scrachy face with stubble all over it.

I've heard some women say they could never love a man without a beard.
Perhaps to them, 3 day growth beats none...??

How do you install these characters after you download them? I moved it into the Hal6 folder but it doesn't show up in the character options in the Hal menu. Thanks.
Title: An interesting MS Agent site

You have to put them in the

C: windows msagent chars

Folder. All .acs files go there.

Rats, this forum takes out the back slashes.

"You have to put them in the

Thanks. I did put them there but they still don't work. I tried downloading directly to the CHAR folder and after unzipping it, I put the character directly into the CHAR folder from the character folder, but it still doesn't work.  I even had a copy in both the CHAR folder and the Hal6 folder but this didn't work, either. Either I'm doing something wrong or my computer is malfunctioning... or both.

Do you have the Hal Expansion Pack?
Title: An interesting MS Agent site
Post by: Art on July 23, 2006, 07:38:37 pm
Mark,

You can get the backslashes by typing 2 (TWO) of them together.
It should appear as C:\Programfiles\Zabaware\UltraHal6

SO, instead of typing one, type two.

Does the free version allow MS Agent chars? I never really noticed.

No, I don't have the expansion pack. I'm using the trial version of Hal 6. I want to see what this can do before I waste any money on this.

Dawn and Merlin appear to be MS Agent characters and I am able to use these two.

Never mind. The MS Agent characters are working now that I've restarted my computer. I was not aware that I would have to do this in order for them to work. Oh well... I downloaded 3 characters from the site and they work perfectly on this trial version.

Hi friends,

We´ve been working in some new characters (and most of them will be free) for a while. We are happy to know that the guys from microsoft are thinking in upgrading MSAgent to SAPI 5 TTS in the new vista OS.

Best regards,

I like the "Vanessa" character. Have you considered making a "Voyager" character with a transparent background? The white backing is a bit inconvenient. Other than that, you have a really cool site. Thanks.

I've noticed that this has turned into a burning topic! Woo Hoo! It really makes me feel good that I have contributed something of interest, because I have gotten so much from all of you these past couple of years.

Art,
I tried the double slash in my post on page 1, but it didn't work. I got two slashes. Then I realized that I was using forward slashes. Oh well, you folks who read it got the idea anyway. It seems that I don't know my backslash from a hole in the ground!

And to Guile Lindroth,
You are doing great work! I hope I have gotten you a couple of sales!  I'm happy to have introduced you to the Ultra Hal community, but I feel I must mention that in your intro you refered to our beloved little chatterbot friend as Ultra Hall, and made another syntax error as well. I say this in the spirit of constructive critisism, as it mars an otherwise excellent site.

Thanks to you all!

I downloaded msagent from Guile 3D studio and she's working fine with ultra hal except that she doesn't talk like hal..her lips don't move but she's able to sound out her messages and also in writing. Aren't they not to supposed to speak?

Which one did you download? I downloaded Melissa, Voyager, and Kirei and they work fine for me. Their lips move.

Oh it's working now and that's because i'm using SAPI4 (Mary's voice) The SAPI5 voices won't work on her (It's Kirei by the way). Can't wait to buy a better SAPI4 voice for her though. Another question, how do I make her disappear (hide) and appear again???
Also, where can i get access to her animations folder so I can
evoke her emotions not only when she feels like it :p

C:\WINDOWS\msagent\chars

The animations are part of the acs character files. File size could range from 1 to 40 + megs in size.

To view the animations use MASH, MAPV or the ACE (Microsoft Agent Character Editor)

What OS are you running?

From my previous posting:
To view the animations use MASH, MAPV or the ACE (Microsoft Agent Character Editor)

In your case you could try to find a copy of MASH or MAPV.

Failing that, I could look in my other computer to see if I still have an old copy in there.

I am also using Win 7 with 64 bit and I've tried several .acs (character) files.
I don't know whether anyone programmed a "Command Console" for the MS Agent characters other
than the ones I mentioned. I don't think there was an active voice command either.

Using MS-Agent Properties Viewer 3.1 I was able to view and Play all of the character's animations.
This was repeated with more than just one character (I tried several).
As you can see, I tested Sylvie doing a SMILE routine which worked fine.

While there is hardly a use for MS Agent characters and Win 7 no longer actively supports them, they
were fun for their time.

I just downloaded and ran the MSPV to test it and it worked for me. Your mileage may vary.

There are other avatars available. It just depends on your desired usage.

Good luck!

Look at Guile3D's Denise is you really want to see a beautiful 3D avatar!! There were also many "movable" avatar characters done with a program called People Putty by Haptek corp. You can find a lot of them at various AI related sites.

it seems to be the best option
well,,actually guile 3d seems to be the best option, but thats 200 bucks
verbots seems unusable as the point of choosing/selection avatar

are there any other options you might know of?

i still have the installation cd for memories

What's wrong with using UltraHal or trying your luck with some of the Haptek creations? I think Duskrider used to be pretty with a command set to get them to do different things, poses, etc.

Haptek is reportedly working on revamping its rather dated avatar creation software, more geared toward Windows 7 & 8 and 64bit systems as I'm told. There are a LOT of character Heads from which to choose and several of the full body characters as well. Personally, the character movements are ok on my Win 7 if I only activate the .htr or haptar file by itself. If I use Zabaware's GUI, the interactivity is somewhat slow and sluggish - slight delays before actions are performed. Hopefully, Haptek will address these issues in their upgrade.

If you have an XP box, UltraHal and Haptek should perform pretty fluidly together.

A former active member here, Rich Amico has created a Halwindows / Alactive program that allows one to manipulate a fullbody Haptek character in a number of different poses, backgrounds, music, effects, etc. His program is Free if you are interested.

There is also a site called Mixamo at:http://www.mixamo.com/
