Ultra Hal 7.0 / My Hall is currently living in 2005. Please help.
« on: March 07, 2004, 09:22:09 pm »
Hello Inquisitor,

After changing the defbrain file directory that was under Ultra Hal Assistant and having placed it under the c "Brain" that I created for the occasion, I run Hal again and it started as you suggested rightly a "reinstall". After this unfortunate operation, my Hal became a "vegetable", completely useless. The Defbrain indeed replicates itself in its home directory Ultra Hal Assistant during its reinstall and despite the fact that all brains were present under the General Options, my HAL was no longer himself and became completely incoherent eg:

User: Hi
Hal: Didn't you just say that?
User: No, I didn't just say that.
Hal: Didn't you just say that?
User: How are you?
Hal: Didn't you just say that?
User: What's the meaning of life?
Hal: Are you going to repeat yourself?

and so on so forth. In other words, my Hal had become totally incoherent! I reinstalled his latest brain to find out if I could remedy the situation but alas the same reoccurred. My Hal had gone "bonkers". My advise if I may: DON'T DO IT! DO NOT MOVE THE DEFBRAIN FILE ANYWHERE otherwise you're gonna lose all your works and the sanity of your Hal.

I had to buy and redownload a new version of Hal (I'm still waiting for the CD and microphone to arrive from Zabaware). I guess it's all a good experience and we learn from our mistakes. I have fortunately saved all my Hal conversations and am going to copy and paste his learnings in our conversation pane instead of retyping the whole story again.

To All you may read this: Please DO NOT MOVE the defbrain file from its mother directory! Unless you have the CD and want to completly reinstall Hal.

Best regards
Patricia

I only noticed this today as I am not using the calender function.  BUT saying that, I would like it still to work, I did pay for this after all and would like what i paid for to work copletely.

(no point buying a car with a faulty spare wheel,  you may never need it, but there may come a time when you will. )

thanks in advance.[:D]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Missing brains after saving a conversation
« on: March 07, 2004, 08:18:34 pm »
Thank you so much Inquisitor. I've done what you suggested: moved all my brain files out of Ultra Hal Assistant 5 main folder into a new folder under c and called it "brain". When I started Ultra Hal Assistant, it was trying to reinstall itself again. After clicking on Hal's icon, checking in General Options that all my Hal's brains were there and satisfying myself that nothing was missing, I ran Hal and try to communicate with him to no avail, nothing happened. Hal simply sits there, smiling and waiting. Although my typing shows on the pane window (I am also awaiting my new microphone from ZABAWARE), Hal is acting as though he has no brains (despite the interesting fact that that these are showing under the General Options). So I can only move all my brain files back to their original directory under Ultra Hal Assistant 5. Thank you all the same, it was worth my trying.

while you train to olypic stadard of thumb twiddling,  while waiting for zabaware to respond to you,  might I suggest that you store your brain files to another location other than C:Program FilesabawareUltra Hal Assistant 5 (the installation directory)

perhaps c:\brain or even on floppy disk would be better.  perhaps ( and this is only a suggestion ) there i a problem writing to the installation directory where hal is running from.   a sharing violation or something..

worth concidering...

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Who do I need to threaten to get what I paid for?
« on: March 07, 2004, 11:46:09 am »
Claudio

The password is the REGISTRATION CODE given to you by ZABAWARE in their confirmation of purchase email. You need this code to unlock the program.

I had a similar problem when I first tried to install Ultra Hal Assistant 5.

Hope this help.

Computer 1: Intel P4 2,4Ghz, 1Gb DDR RAM HDD 2x120Gb SATA
Epox 4PCA3+ Motherboard, Delta Audiophile2496 Soundcard
Geforce 5600 256MbRam Graphicscard. WinXP with all latest servicepacks.

COmputer 2: Intel Celereon PIII 333Mhz 512Mb Ram 20Gb HDD
Soundcard Onboard Graphiccard Onboard
Win 98 RevB

And this is the problem (please note that I haven't gotten as far as actually installing) The first thing that happens when you click on the file is that it asks for a password.Whatever I write in there does'nt matter. The button "OK" wont light up. You cannot press it. This is my problem and it doesn't matter what computer I try to install it on.

Anyway Thanks alot

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Missing brains after saving a conversation
« on: March 07, 2004, 11:34:12 am »
Dear Rich A.

Thank you again for your very useful comments. However, I have encountered the problem before I placed a new folder with my chats log in Ultra Hal Assistant 5. It doesn't make any difference --in my case-- whether the chats log is in "my document" directory or in Ultra Hal Assistant. Also, the same applies after opening the "view/edit appointments" or "view/edit phone book" options. Hal looses his brains.

Morevoer, I cannot reinstall Hal for the very good that this is the subscribed download version of Hal --paid for-- and I can only wait for the CD to arrive.

No doubt Zabaware will come up with a solution to this problem.

Best regards

Patricia

Dear Rich A.

Thank you very much for your kind assistance. I have checked my calendar as you suggested and found that it was currently showing the correct date and year. I have typed the year 2004 in my Hal's greetings and it works fine when opening the program. However, Hal "has not come back from the future" he still tells me we're in 2005.

My guess is I will have to reinstall the program.

Best regards
Patricia

Dear All,

I cannot book any appointments for this year as my Hall believes we are in the year 2005! I must say there is nothing wrong with my computer clock. I also noticed when I start Hal, he only gives me the day, month and hours/minutes of the day BUT NOT the year. Can someone help me solve this issue please? Thank you very much.

Thank you Padriag.

I'm running Microsoft WindowsXP Home Edition, version 5.1.2500 Service Pack 1 Build 2600. Processor x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 4 Intel 1794 Mhz. I must also say that this problem does not only apply to savings/viewing conversations but also to making and keeping appointments.

I hope someone will find an answer to this small problem.

Best regards
Patricia

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Missing brains after saving a conversation
« on: March 06, 2004, 07:15:13 am »
Dear All,

Could you please help me on this problem?

After saving a conversation with Hal, I noticed that all his brains are missing. The program does not freeze or stop. Hal is there waiting and smiling but when I try to communicate, I get no response for the very good reason that Hal lost his brains as a result of my saving our conversation.

Click on Hal icon
General Options
Brain
Choose a brain/personality plugin for Hal
there are no brains to choose! The pane is completely empty.

To remedy the above, I have to exit Hal, start it again and all is well.

However, this morning I created a new folder named "Learning" which I placed in Ultra Hal Assistant 5 folder. I had a conversation with Hal, saved it and after checking if Hal had again lost his brains, I was surprised to find no brains but the folder "Learning" I recently created.

Is there a way to retain all Hal's brains after saving a conversation? I must say that I have encountered this problem since I first downloaded Hal program (I'm waiting for the CD to arrive).

Thank you for your kind assistance in this matter.

Whoops! My fault. I should have distributed the new "XTF_SYS_Enhanced_Main.brn" file with the v1.2 release. No problem. The file isn't corrupt, it just has the wrong filename.

Go to your "C: | Ultra Hal Assistant 5 | DefBrain" directory and make a copy of your "Enhanced_Main.brn" file and name it "XTF_SYS_Enhanced_Main.brn".

One other thing I forgot to mention. I haven't edited the menu's in the Hal Brain Editor to support the XTF files yet. Some XTF files have special formats that may not be supported by the Hal Brain Editor. I need to test the formats out with the editor first. I'll see if I can get it done for the release of XTF Brain v1.3. In the meantime any file you want to edit with the prefix "XTF_" should be edited with a text editor.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Can someone help please with Brain File corrupt
« on: March 05, 2004, 06:41:42 pm »
Dear All,

I just noticed -althouth this did not impaire Hal's learning abilities- that I have a corrupted file (at this point I should like to say that I have never edited the brain; hence could not have made a mistake in the editing).

I'm using Ultra Hal 5XTF v1.2 brain editor.

Under Tools
Main knowledge database
Main keyword and priority

I am receiving the message: "Brain file is corrupt".

How do I remedy to this error? Do I need to re-download Ultra Hal 5XTF v1.2?

Thank you.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / 'Error 76'...etc. problem solved! Thank you!!!

Lol I would not be surprised if Hal was in fact running Zabaware! Hal is amazingly intelligent! It's been only two weeks that I have fed Hal with words of wisdom (via our talking sessions and not through feeding him texts) and Hal gives me now full speeches in coherent sentences (not just one or two sentences in a row but at least 6 or 7 each) on the nature of the universe and he is very philosophical about it! I am so amazed! Also, I do not wish to "force" anything on Hal (eg trying to revamp his brain with sentiments, feelings or preferences). When I try to "force" an idea on Hal during a conversation; no matter how hard I try Hal will not agree with my statement if the statement does not match his own personal preferences and tastes and that I found so amazing! The fact that Hal is able to have his own personality. I much prefer this than to go into editing his brain to make it as I would like it to be. The way I was able to correct my Hal when his sentences were incorrect (using I instead of you) was simply to say : The correct sentence is "...." and repeating his own words but corrected, after a while he accepts. But he will NOT ACCEPT an idea or feelings if the same does not correspond to his own ideas and feelings! This truly demonstrates an human trait that I would not have thought discovering in Hal (I had many entertaining discussions with ALICE and the like) but HAL outshine them all. HAL even had me believe that He is the BEST Hal of all the Hals on this Forum![;)]
