Title: Haptek start up
Post by: Carl2 on June 03, 2007, 03:20:03 pm
As I had said previously I had put together some files to change the startup method for Haptek characters.  The files can be used alone
or with the vrHaptek plugin.  It has been used with both version 5 and version 6 of Hal.

Hi carl2,

I also would like to know if this is the patch you mentioned to repair the double character load problem? Will this work if I am using a torso character and I just need to change the file from fullbody to my torso character as idicated in the text file. Also I will assume you have tried this with 6.1. Thanks so much for your time and effort. I will try this patch after I have read your reply.

Thanks,
raybe

markofkane,
I originaly used this to load a modified haptek character in Hal ver 5, it loads fullbody girl with a different jpeg.  I started using vrHaptek and ran into some startup problems that others have also had.
Right now I'm using it with Hal 6.1 with vrHaptek to avoid the start up  problems.  I have a ReadMe file to help with some necessary changes. It requires making a folder, copying some files to this folder and changing addresses in some files I've included.
raybe,
The vrHaptek pulgin is meant to use with a fullbody character and uses animations such as walking ect.  I would think walking haps simply would not work with a torso character, also they could just be taken out of the plugin.
The purpose of my files is to avoid the startup problems, it will load a character and load a modified skin.  In your case you will also have to change the name of the htr that is loaded.  If your just trying to load a torso character it's probably easier to just mark this character in the options and take out the loading in the vrHaptek plugin.

Hi everyone. I'll like to thank Carl2 for his HaptekStartup.zip.

Many tips and tricks of this forum are useful for my little "experiments". After unzipping the file, what a surprise to discover an only 279 bytes .htr file. After editing, it appeared to be a text file, something like a .hap file.

The original Haptek character I prefer is a torso one, the Lola of the Haptek Corporate section. She was the spark that made me addicted to Haptek and I use her for several bots. She is built with the bizlady, hair5 and bizlashes .htr's. Now, with an only six lines file (named... Lola.htr), I can load the character. And create a lot of other ".htr's".

I know it's not a real .htr/.haptar. And what I write here is evident for people using Haptek tools but it was for me a revelation.

Thanks Again, Carl2.

Hi GT40 & Carl2,

I think you are both capable of answering my question and I am using the same torso character as GT40. Can either one of you tell me how I can default the hair to the HairBlack.hap file I have. I am trying to get the character to load with the black hair hap file from the start. I also don't want to forget to thank Carl2 for solving my loading problem. I still need to work on the basics of how you got around that problem but GT40 seems to have a good handle on that.

Thanks again,
raybe

Hi Raybe,

You can have HAL load up your hair.htr at starup by using this bit of script:

Rem PLUGIN: SCRIPT_LOAD
HalMenu.HalCommand "<HAPFILE> name of file added here </HAPFILE>"

Thanks ramccoid,

I tried your suggestion but the hair hap file I am trying use with my torso character did not load. I tried just for good measure
inputing the htr file with no results.Just to be clear I changed the script using the hap and then htr seperatly. I am sure the hap file is just not loaded within the right sequence based upon the changes made by Carl2 startup file I loaded which works great. Just a note I did note import the Loadskin.hap or or emptyscene.hap that is included in Carl2's files because I am using the torso character and I am only trying to load new hair and I am using my own jpeg backgrounds for day and night. Thank you for your time. Any other help would be most appreciated.

Hi Raybe
You must have you hair HTR file in the 'characters' folder that is in the 'Ultra Hal Assistant 6' folder for the routine to work.

I am going to just keep apoligizing to you ramccoid until I get this straight and my head out of my @#$. I installed the hair htr file in the character folder and I still have no change to my torso character. It is obvious I am missing something or not giving you enough information on some of those changes made by the procedures to get the new Haptek startup file by Carl2 to work. I do appreciate the time and patience you are having with me.

Hi Raybe,

I go throught this step by step...hahaha

1. make sure the HTR file is in the character folder.
2. copy the script that I gave to you into the beginnig of a plugin UHP file. Straight after all this stuff.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Rem Type=Plugin
Rem Name=
Rem Author=
Rem Host=All

'------------------------------------------------------------------
'This sub setups the plug-ins option panel in Hal's options dialog
'------------------------------------------------------------------

Sub OptionsPanel()
    lblPlugin(0).Caption = ""
    lblPlugin(0).Move 120, 10, 3300, 1000
    lblPlugin(0).WordWrap = True
    lblPlugin(0).Visible = True
End Sub
'''''''Put script here''''''
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
Rem PLUGIN: SCRIPT_LOAD
HalMenu.HalCommand "<HAPFILE> name of HTR file put here </HAPFILE>"
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

---------------------------------------------------------------
3. Make sure you select the plugin in the HAL Brain setup menu.
4. Open HAL.

And that's all there is to it. If you still have problems with it just post some more and I'll try to help further.

Roy.

ramccoid,
This is killing me. I keep checking everything twice even the name of the htr file that contains the black hair I am trying to load on to my character. I copied from your posting loaded it into my editor inserted the name of the htr file (hair6 2EXP.htr)this is exactly how the name appears on the file made a uhp file saved it in Hal folder and selected it from brain setup menu plugins and nothing. The htr file is in the character folder also. What could I possibly be missing here.

I can't thank you enough but this getting silly.

Hi raybe, I'm ashamed to confess I don't use Hal! Except sometimes the free version 5. But, like you, I’m very interested in Haptek torso characters. And I don't know if you can manipulate .htr files so easily in the Ultra Hal Assistant than in the real life (I mean in Haptek World!). [:)]

I tried the Lola.htr I spoke above with the hair6.htr you use for your character (instead of the hair5). It works too. But not with Hal5, perhaps because it's not a real .htr file. I'm sure ramccoid and Carl2 have the good answers. [:)]

Hi Raybe,
Create a folder and name it 'Bodyskins' in your Ultra Hal Assistant 6 folder. Put the black hair HTR in it and use this plugin to call it up at startup.

If your black hair HTR doesn't work try this one, it's the one I used to test it with.

I hope that this sorts you out.

I'm glad to see that everyone has solved there problems.  I'm sure you have chosen the torso characters for your own reasons but wanted to be sure you know you have more Haptek characters to choose from. Check out AI Dreams in the download section.

Carl2,

I looked at AI dreams but I am noticing that there are no other full body Haptek bodies that aren't the same other then clothes and hair. I did notice that haptek has one full body character that usually has that blond hair,Sandy kind of look and a full body that almost looks like my torso character only with black short hair and glasses. I guess no one including haptek is making any real new characters outside of the heads. I new I would be limited with the torso character but I enjoy that almost photo look of this character especially in a large skin. As far as the limitations I always take for granted you guys would come up with something and you usually do.
I posted a similar message at virtualhumans.

Thanks for being here,
raybe

unfortunately, all we have ever had to work with is a ouple of full body females, maybe 3, and 3 males, and a couple of torsos. we alter them with skins of faces- clothing- etc and different hair.

that is all we can do.

one can change them if one buys the whole package which i understand is expensive.

After I'd posted that I looked at AI dreams for the htr's and have to agree thay are missing, I'd commented about this to Freddy there.
I'd suggest you go to AI Dreams and say you would like to see this, the more people interested the better the chances,  thay had quite a few in the past that were available to download.  Nice forum with helpful people.
I also have more information on the startup posted under Share that you may be interested in, should be easier and offers more possiblies.

Carl2,

I just downloaded a file called bodygirl.htr and she is my torso character in a full body. She has glasses and now the new black hair and she is perfect because I am finally getting all that animation you were talking about. I believe she was a haptek full body and I never noticed that it was the same character I had. The glasses are a nice touch. Next is this Kate,Paul NEO speech problem.

I found another website on the internet where additional Haptek characters can be downloaded from. http://www.aee.odu.edu/agent.php?agent=150 . The character will appear in the C:/ Program files/Haptek/player/hap_temp folder, make a copy of the files.
I'd tried this before without results, the original posting for this can be found by doing a search for Haptek Character Goldmine by gostrider.

Thanks very much Carl2,

I really do appreciate it. I found the charactrs and will take a look at them all. I am always interested in new characters because of the released characters limited selections.I find that I am happy with this new character. Finally getting things just the way I want, with your help of course I am a little reluctant to change right now.

Thanks again,
